Just wanted to introduce myself as I've stumbled across this thread looking for inexpensive recipes.
I've been a member of SW on and off for around 8 years. This time around I've been going to class since March 2007, just 3 months after I had my first baby. I'm now 32 weeks pregnant with my second and, as I was at target when i got pregnant, am still attending class fortnightly for free. I've put on 1st 7.5lb and am aiming to stay within the 2st range which means I'll still be free.
I might not pop in too much in the next couple of months, but will certainly do so after this baby arrives as my best mate gets married 6 weeks after my due date and I don't want to look like a Teletubbie on the photos!
Nice to meet you all.

Not sure if you share SW recipes on here, but this is my fave one. We use this recipe regardless of whether I'm sticking to the plan or not. And with EE you could even have rice!
1 large onion, finely chopped
1 garlic clove, crushed
2 fresh chillies, deseeded & chopped or ½ teaspoon of lazy chilli
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon ground coriander
1 teaspoon paprika
pinch cayenne pepper
1x 400g can chopped tomatoes
1 carton passata
1 level tablespoon tomato puree (½ sin)
1 beef stock cube (½ sin)
salt and ground black pepper
1lb/454g extra lean beef mince
1x 198g can red kidney beans (10½ sins on original)
chopped fresh coriander to serve
1. Fry onion gently over a low heat for 6-8 minutes of until softened and golden
2. Add the mince and fry until all browned
3. Add the garlic, chillies and all the spices, continue frying, stirring occasionally, for 2-3 minutes
4. Add the canned tomatoes, passata, tomato puree and crumble in the stock cube. Bring to the boil then reduce the heat and simmer for 15 minutes
5. Season with salt and pepper, then add the drained kidney beans. Simmer for a further 5-10 minutes
6. Serve with chopped coriander leaves, rice and a green salad
Serves 4
3 sins on original, 10½ sins on green
Preparation time: 15 mins
Cooking time: 35 mins
The syn values are relatively old, so you might want to double check. This recipe assumes kidney beans are a HE, but I guess you could have those free on EE too.MSE Parent Club Member #1Yummy slummy mummy club member50% slummy, 50% mummy, 100% proudImogen born Boxing Day 2006Alex born 13 July 20090 -

Kate, I check the Lynesse VLF cottage cheese and it is 0.4%. I now have a huge vegetable quiche in the oven.
Pete
thanks Pete, then I will have to syn the 4% stuff. There is a Lidl I can go to so I'll go and check there if they have VLF cottage cheese. Most of the supermarkets here just don't have the range of VLF dairy products/ spreads etc. that you get in a UK supermarket and it's very annoying!
HAd a terrible weekend food wise - way too much fat and alcohol. So back on track tomorrow.Saving to pay the tax man0 -
Hi all,
I hope you don't mind me joining the thread, I have been lurking for the last week and it has been a great help. DH started SW and has his third WI tonight, but it is me following the plan for him & providing the meals . Don't get me wrong, he is learning how it works but slowly lol (and he does cook). He is doing well so far & lost 8.5 lb in the first two weeks but he has got about five stone to lose altogether. I may join him in a couple of weeks- just doing it at home - I could do with shifting half a stone.
I have a quick question if anyone can help. I have bought some Rakusen's 1% fat baked crackers but I can't find the syn value for them. It isn't in the branded food directory or online. If anyone know, I'd be very grateful.
Now off to make a big pan of soup with roasted butternut squash & peppers YUM one of our favourites.

I rang our local PCT to see if it was available in our area - we live in Dudley and it's available here. You have to have a BMI of over 30 (I think that's what the nurse said - we were both well over that lol!). We didn't see the doctor, we had to see the nurse and she just filled in a form and weighed us. It's going to save us a fortune so that's why I posted on here. I'm sure if you ring your doctors they'll be able to tell you if they do it or not. Each surgery has a nominated person in charge of it. Hope that helps - sorry if it's a little vague but we went a couple of weeks ago.
Thank you so much, that's really cleared things up for me. My bmi is definately over 30 so no worried there lol!! I will ring my surgery today and let you all know how it goes. As I previosuly said I am hoping to re-join tomorrow (the same group I used to go to a year or so ago) and getting it for free for a while would really help as without that I may need to seriously reconsider if I can afford to goJoined Slimming World 19th May 2009

Ok I am somewhat disheartened as I have just found out that my surgery does not offer the referral programme. Just wondering if anyone know what it currently costs to join slimming world?Joined Slimming World 19th May 2009
