Just for people that are worrying about the cost of SW - if you have a reasonable amount of weight to lose then if you go to your docs they may be able to refer you to SW and then they give you 12 weeks of vouchers at a time for nothing. The only restriction I can see is that you have to have not been a member for 12 weeks before you use the vouchers. I don't know how strict they are on this as we have just got our vouchers and we are members already - don't know if we'll be able to use them. If our consultant says no then we will not go for 12 weeks and then use them!!! It will save us a fortune. Hope that helps someone.
Just wondering how overweight you have to be? I have to say I probably am in this category but I just want to check before making an appointment with my doctor! I haven't been a member for quite some time but am planning to start back on Tuesday, so therefore would need an appointment on Monday with my doctor! Thanks for any information
Also, after looking for more information it seems it isn't currently in all areas, is there any way of finding out if it's in mine?Joined Slimming World 19th May 2009
Loss so far 3 stones & 7 lbs!! :j
Wedding 22/05/2011:kisses2:0 -
I have just re-started (online at the bodyoptimise website)after a nearly 2 years of being off plan. I lost 3 stone and was wearing size 14 jeans for the first time since I was about 15. Then I moved away, and it was a bit too far to get to my lovely class and equally lovely consultant.
I found another class near my new house, but (and this is going to sound really awful) I really didn't feel comfortable with my group or consultant. They were all a bit...well..'rough' and sweary and the consultant was (or seemed to be anyway) really good friends with them. It was a bit like a club I wasn't invited to. I was afraid to open my mouth as when I did, I got teased about my "posh" accent -which isnt, I'm Irish and about as down to earth as you can get with a normal Irish non posh accent. The one time I offered a recipe, I was sneered at. And then they laughed.
I didnt go back after that.
My first group was a mix of women and men from all walks of life who were lovely and supportive.
Anyway all three stone and another half has gone back on for good measure.
I started on Tuesday and weighed in (in my bathroom) at 16st 5
I am 5'9 and my bmi is 33. This is the worst I've been ever. I have a whole wardrobe (and a case under the bed) of clothes I can't wear.
I'm doing a mix of red and green days. I'd like to try the easy extra, but I'm a bit nervous-It just seems so wrong! Seems I am also indoctrinated about the red and green shall not be mixed!
A little bit of support would be nice, and I hope I dont come across as snobby or too posh or just plain mean.Light Bulb Moment: Feb 2007

Hi all
In the past I have done SW & have LOTS of books & recipes to prove it lol!! However, I did find my class althoug friendly, not much was done by the consultant to explain & do recipes etc - all we did was got weighed;she read out the names with results, then time to go home. In the end I couldn't justify the cash so decided to stop going. I've been OK with my weight up until the last 6 months or so, when I have definitely gained quite a bit - don't know how much as scales are broken (!). I'm guessing I'm about 12st something, & really need to lose at least a stone - more ideally. I can tell because my clothes from last year don't fit or look nice & I don't want to buy more.......
I have a question about SW, whne I went to class the emphasis seemed to be more on syns value of pre-prepared ready meals or tinned/packaged goods. Whilst I can see they're useful for a quick & easy, don't need to calculate how many syns meal; it doesn't fit the way we eat since I make everything from scratch & would really prefer to eat fresh food all the time. I'd like to be able to adapt my own recipes f poss. I'm hoping I can join you guys & motivate myself at home, since I have all the books & do still use recipes from my SW days even now - especially a lentil dhal ! Curry night tonight folks, did you guess???New start JAN15 - NOT BUYING IT 2015 . Kate, I check the Lynesse VLF cottage cheese and it is 0.4%. I now have a huge vegetable quiche in the oven.

i think you can have cheese on an EE day as a HEB? Consultant31, can you let us know? I thought on EE you could have any HEB from a red/green day. On a green day you can have cheese a HEB?

Thank you!
Do you have any thoughts on easy extra?
I just can't get my head around the fact that its supposed to work. Do people on here find its as good as red/green and easy to follow?Light Bulb Moment: Feb 2007

You're right Fluffy, you can use any of the listed HEs from your main Food Optimising Book (the red and green one) so, on the EE plan, you can have your one HEA as cheese and your one HEB as cheese too if you likeI let my mind wander and it never came back!0 -

The EE plan was developed by the same nutritionist who works out the other plans, so there's no reason why it won't work just as well. You do need to remember the basic rules though (only one each HEAs and HEBs) and try to have a third of a plate of superfree foods with each meal.
Gosh, I'm not surprised you didn't go back to that group. To be honest, you perhaps would have done SW a favour if you'd rung head office and complained about the Consultant's attitudeI let my mind wander and it never came back!0
