Hi does anyone have a copy of Juddermans Baked bean lasagne recipe? Ive made this loads of times but cant find the recipe and can remember how much cheese to use.
    thanks Nic

sorry to quote myself but I found the recipe, here it is if anyone fancies it. The whole family loves it and it freezes well. hope judds doesnt mind be reposting it

    Baked Bean lasagne
    .Servings | 4
Syns Per Serving | Green – Syn Free*
    * Add 6 Syns per serving if not using the Cheddar cheese as a Healthy Extra option

    Ingredients
    -Fry Light
    -2 large onions, finely chopped
    -2 red peppers, de-seeded & chopped
    -mushrooms (optional)
-2 x 400gm cans baked beans in tomato sauce
    -2 x 400gm cans chopped tomatoes
-salt & freshly ground black pepper to taste
    -2 cloves garlic, crushed
    -splash of Worcestershire sauce
    -splash of soy sauce
    -dried lasagne sheets
-168gm (6oz) reduced fat Cheddar cheese, grated*

    Method
    1. Pre-heat oven to 200C / 400F / Gas Mark 6.

    2. Heat a large pan sprayed with Fry Light and cook the onion, peppers, mushrooms and garlic for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until soft.

    3. Add the baked beans, chopped tomatoes, salt & pepper and the Worcestershire & soy sauces & mix together.

    4. Layer the tomato mixture alternately with the lasagne sheets in a large oven-proof lasagne dish, starting & ending with the tomato mixture.

    5. Cover with foil & bake in the oven for 30-35 minutes. Uncover, sprinkle with the cheese and bake for a further 5-10 minutes until the cheese is golden and bubbling.

You can of course vary the contents - I add much more garlic than the recipe suggests and also add several splashes of Hot Chilli Sauce (please note this is likely to incur some Syns)
It is very easy to make , quick and tasty

  • does anyone know if using wine in cooking would be the same amount of syns as if you had drank the equivalent sized glass?
Just wondering whether the reducing does anything...

Nice idea, but I think you'd have to count the syns for what you put in - reducing it down only concentrates the flavours it doesn't make it less syn-ful!
I let my mind wander and it never came back!
  • well i had my WI last night after 4wks of total fall out binging & had by some miracle managed to STS i think it was being away & walking lots & breast feeding still so I am over the moon about that & really motivated

Yep too late I'm afraid, must confess to eating half a pizza, cookies and ice cream. Oh well, back on track tomorrow, went to asda and got lots of good food.

I agree that this is the official line, but I was talking to my FIL about this, and he reckons that cooking the wine evaporates the alcohol, and hence the syns! (He is a chemist, incidentally.) Does anyone know anything more about this?

Sadly, it's not only the alcohol that makes the syns, otherwise alcohol-free wine and grape juice would be free, and they're not. Sorry.

FIL is correct but to give a Food Technologists slant on it (lol!) it is the sugar used in the fermentation stage that gives all the calories, these don't evaporate so calories still there

Doesn't the sugar get converted into alcohol or wine would be as sweet as grape juice? Whatever, we're probably best advised to syn it as Consultant31 said!

Well done all you losers - some great losses there and also if you StS. it's really inspiring to see other people loosing, especially if, like me, you can't get to class. Makes me want to re-double my effort and be able to post a loss.

Went to a huge 'works do' last night. Massive venue loads of folk, lots of fun.
I was pretty restrained on the snacking and alcohol front but am sure that I went well over my syns. Never mind, back on track today. will need to think about what I'm going to eat and I'll post it up later.
