sw start date 23/09/2013 4 st 8 pounds to go....as of 21/10/13 not 3 stone 7 to go for first target. updated 18/11/13 now 2 stone 10lbs to go to first target.
  • Re. meal planning - paula recommended a low-carb recipe book a few days ago & it does get some good reviews - don't think it's veggie but recipes could probably be adapted. Rose Elliot definitely does a veggie low-carb recipe book as she has been mentioned on this thread. I would recommend looking in your local Library first if you want to save your pennies - try before you buy!! :D

  • nerdy, I've just bought the IPD book (£4.99 from Play with free delivery) although haven't read it yet :o Will be reading it over the next couple of days.

    :D

I`ll hang on till I hear how you get on with it, then. I find diet books are generally a bit mind numbing......full of anecdotes and other twaddle after the first 2 chapters. I like the site, though.
Is there much difference between that and Atkins?

    Cheers,
    Nerdy

    For 6 pancakes:

    40g soya flour
    3 eggs
    120ml water
    pinch of salt

Mix and cook as usual. Dunno if they freeze, but I should think so.

I've got the IPD book. It's a good read and quite motivational. The authors do go on and on a bit about their life stories/weight issues, and they irritate me a bit because they make claims that they don't substantiate - they're just two fluffy journalists and I wonder if they've heard/read things and just stuck them in the book without doing any research. They also contradict themselves occasionally. Having said all that, I'd recommend it! :D

ETA: Nerdy, I'd say it's a more relaxed Atkins.

ETA: Actually, I'd just buy the cook book. It has most of the stuff about the diet in it anyway, and some really great recipes - that's where the famous cheesy leeks come from.
  • Pretty, what I do is base my meals around the following:-
    Monday - quorn
Tuesday - tofu (the firm one)
    Wednesday - soya mince
    Thursday - egg/cheese
    Friday - vegetables
    Saturday - pizza
    Sunday - nuts
I vary the meals by doing different things with them (for instance quorn made into curry, cooked with mushrooms and cream, fillets with pesto and crunchy nut topping).
I work like this so that I don't have to panic-cook something I shouldn't. I just work out which day of the week it is and then only have to think what to do with that main ingredient.
    Hope this helps.
Vegetarian. Have cut out all high carb food. Not following any particular plan.Started 20/1/2009. Weight lost so far 29lbs. Target weight loss 38lb in total.
  • BTW, did anyone see that programme on telly the other night about a professor looking into various diet plans and working out if and how they work? Her conclusion was that if you use more calories than you take in, you will loose weight. She also looked into vitamins ans supplements and concluded that a well balanced diet doesn't need anything extra and that taking vitamins and supplements won't turn a bad diet into a healthy one. It was quite interesting.

  • Nerdy - I agree with what HC has said about the IPD book. It is good and very motivational but if you were going to buy one, I'd buy the cook book first. I follow atkins but you can still use the recipes (you just need to work out the carbs as IPD don't actually count them).;)
If you think nobody cares whether you're alive or dead, try missing a couple of mortgage payments.

    My way is Atkins;)

No, where was that? It might still be available online...

Ugh, I bought Lidl unsweetened soya milk the other day (rather than my usual Alpro) and it's MINGIN'! Don't try it.

Hi all, Turned into a bit of a part-time lurker as still in the "moderate carb" catagory. BTW, impressive losses going on here so big congrats there! :j

Sweet- how come you've changed your sig? You've done dead well haven't you?
HC- Gonna try them soya pancakes as I love 'em with cheese!

Feeling much better now eating bit more carbs, more energy to exercise and better mental clarity. I think some people are just more sensitive than others to carbs. In my experience, what made me put on weight, was the type and the amount I ate (like, every meal and snack was carbs, often rubbish refined ones, crisps, crackers, choc......)

Now I don't eat them at every meal and when I do, they're "good quality" ones, i.e un-refined. I eat protein at every meal to fill me up too, if I let myself get too hungry, that's when bad things can happen!!:D

I get down the gym a couple times a week and I can't sing the praises enough of weight training! It honestly is the thing that makes all the difference to me anyway. It transforms my body quicker than cardio even. I do body pump classes, but if you just find anything fun, it makes all the difference both physically and mentally. I used to take prozac, totally ineffective, exercise is the only thing that works for me (and sunshine, of course!)

    xx
