I nodded off just before the alarm went off, went back to sleep by accident & was 30mins late waking DD2 up for school so she nearly missed the bus :o I'm shattered now.

sweet - did you ever get injections into your shoulder for the pain? It's awful to have pain that stops you from sleeping - wishing you a painfree day.:)

Thank you, have forgotten what a painfree day feels like though!! Had an injection in September, really bad experience :( Physio thinks Dr did it in wrong place  & is suggesting I see another Dr to get it done again _pale_
Hi. Called tesco cust. svces who said 'yes-you can order anything-just go to customer service desk'. Did this today-intial response was 'I'll have to call the duty manager-it's at his discretion' which was duly done. So...should be ready to collect 28/12-& apparently they may trial it to sell it!

Brilliant, thanks for letting us know, will try in the New Year :D

beanrua, did your lovely SILs share their Irwins stash with you then?? I'm guessing not...
  • Anyone know of a low carb thickener that could replace cornflour in a recipe?

    I think Sunny uses Arrowroot??
Cooked cauli that's been blended - that thickens my soup up so may work in your recipe??

What recipe were you thinking of??

Hi all. I am thinking of starting a low carb diet of somesort. Have so far read Atkins and Dukan diet books with interest. I am currently doing the Cambridge plan. Not doing very well. Losing little weight cause of poor will power and cheating lots. I just like food... Lots!! I dont cook much, work long hours and like the look of Atkins so far. I also like meat lots which helps! I dont do well with complication, flexibility or having to cook and prepare etc. I can manage cooking meat and veg etc but not interested in lots of ingrediants.

Just thought I would pop my head in, say hi and see if any of you guys have any suggestions etc.
  • Just general casseroly things...if i need to thicken slow-cooker stuff etc...will look up arrowroot-thanks!
  • R U of the male variety?!

Easiest way to do it if you can't be bothered with the recipes, etc...is completely cut out white carbs (bread, rice, potatos, etc). Be carfull & use sauces sparingly if they have sugar in them. Veg-stick to fibrous veg like sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower, spinach. Fruit-only eat fibre rich fruit-frozen raspberries/berries (aldi is good for this), handfull at a time. 1 small satsuma at a time, no more than 1/2 apple. FULL FAT greek yoghurt-1kg-MEGA-from lidl. As much cheese, butter as you want. The olny meal to 'think' more about is lunch to avoid bread/sandwiches. I have value mozarella, tomato, olive oil etc.

Ryvita with sesame seeds-no more than 2 slices a day-is ok too.

If you can be bothered counting (& it does help to get to know the figures)-try & keep under 20gms carbs a day for 2 weeks. And...you can have cream in your coffee!

Phil, I would recommend Dr John Briffa's book 'Waist Disposal', he is a British medical doctor and wrote this specifically for blokes. It's a very easy read and you can pick it up cheaply second hand on Amazon marketplace, I've bought a copy for my husband.

    Thanks Debtmonkey and newleaf.

Debtmonkey, I am male and the regime you describe sounds similar to Atkins... or at least one of the phases. Whats the difference? I guess in essance most low carb plans are pretty much the same.

I like the looks of that book newleaf. My wife is planning on doing this with me. Is this book good for her to? We both work long hours and dont enjoy cooking so tend to eat simple or conveneince foods.

    Evening everyone
Beanrua, don't worry about them. You have those size 10 jeans :)

Phil, how bad is your cooking etc? Time is not really an issue with most low carb meals as veg steams in minutes & you can flash fry most meats. My OH is worse than useless in the kitchen (except to do the dishes;)) but he can manage an omlette or to grill some bacon.
Frozen veg popped straight into a steamer would be easy. What types of meals do you like & we can give you a cheats way to do it?

Haven't been weighed today as I am still really working (or should be) playing catch up with a big paperwork pile.

    Food today has been.
    Bacon with cheese as breakfast.
    Billtong for lunch
    Dinner as per meal plan.

Really fancy a Southern comfort but must resist:( green tea it is

Going to boil some eggs for the morning.

Newleaf his website looks good, thanks I'd not heard of him. :T

Hi pink princess. Thanks for your comments. I am not that bad in the kitchen I guess. I can cook meat and veg. Its just making things where it all goes wrong. Baking, pastry, HM sauces etc. I really want to go with the plan that will shift most weight which I can then increase into a maintanance plan of sorts. Thats why the Atkins looks good as a low carb option from what I have read so far.

I don't eat any baked or pastry products at all. I do use chicken skin as a type of filo pastry though.

Sauces are very easy low carb way. Meat stock reduced with a touch of cream & herbs or stock with a touch of spices & a few tablespoons of passata, or a touch of cream with mustard (I prefer smoked paprika) & cheese & black pepper. All take 5 minutes to make & will compliment any meal.

I don't follow a diet, my husband and I just made the choice to eat this way as our normal diet. We don't regret it, it's great.
