  • After being on the Dukan Diet since end of July, in 4 1/2 months I've lost a stone. I'm almost not obese any more and can now wear size 14. Have a new winter coat - I intend to wear it for the first time on Christmas morning and it will be nice and warm for when we go to the Cotswolds near Slimbridge in January.

We were out to dinner last evening for the St Albans branch English Democrats Christmas dinner - a nice evening full of good fellowship and cheerful company with like-minded people. We were in an old pub, traditional English, but I think the kitchen struggled a bit. There were 2 separate parties holding their Christmas Dinner, and in those old buildings the kitchen is not exactly first-class restaurant facilities, although they do their best. OH had cheese and biscuits, and grapes...he says he has all week to get over it! No one argued when I said I didn't want potatoes, and I got through the first 2 courses quite well. Although, venison - I think that deer must have been very old or it gave itself up, because it was tough. I've had venison before, love it, but it does need long slow cooking because it's a very fibrous meat. Pass over that...They all did their best, it was 50 miles away, we got home at midnight and didn't get up until 10 am! I've had my oat bran porridge and coffee and that will be all I want for a few hours. We're out this afternoon at a carol service/nativity play at church followed by 'festive nibbles'. OH thinks we won't stay for the 'festive nibbles'! What I'd really like is just one home-made mince pie, don't want any supermarket ones, just one made at home by one of the church members, but if not, then a cup of tea will do.

We went to Aldi yesterday and got a 4-bird roast to cook on Christmas Day. There'll be loads of it but at least we can eat it as sandwiches later. It was a bit unusual and just fancied it. Also got some low-fat creme fraiche - I'll get some fresh fruit later in the week and that's our Christmas Day meal sorted.

I've been on other sites where people are agonising about 'how not to put on weight over Christmas...' the unspoken message here is 'but I've gotta eat this, and that, because it's festive..' My response is 'if you want to lose weight at Christmas or at any other time of year, it depends how much you want it, or how much you can't resist temptation'. I've been told that low-carbing is a 'silly fad diet', potatoes are part of a 'normal healthy balanced diet'. I managed to avoid the 2 kinds of potatoes on offer last evening by simply saying 'no thanks'. I haven't eaten a potato since the end of July and will probably never eat another one. Nothing wrong with potatoes as such, except that once they're peeled you've immediately lost all the nutrients and vitamins that were below the skin, and you've got to cook them, usually in some fat or oil, and that's what does the damage. What helped me to get over the idea that you've 'gotta have potatoes' was going to a couple of Anglo-Saxon themed dinners where the food was what would have been available a thousand years ago, and to mop up your gravy you had chunks of wholemeal bread, but not a potato in sight - they didn't appear for another few centuries.

    Hi Peeps

lovely sunny morning here today but its mighty cold outside BRRR!

I`m feeling a bit delicate today as i was out last night and i overdid it a bit :o I think that unless anything unexpected crops up thats the last of the nights out for a good while. We were supposed to be going out tonight but tbh i just can`t face it.

Foodwise i`ve been excellent and not cheated at all :j
I just seem to be addicted to guinness which is weird because i never liked the stuff before, strange how your tastes change as you get older.

When we got home in the early hours i had the munchies and ate a big slab of the pork pie filling so even then i stuck to lc.

Brekkie this morning was cheese on lc toast and i`ve no idea what we will be eating later as i forgot to get the pork out of the freezer lol, DH will arrive home from w*rk starving and will probably have some toast before going to sleep in front of the telly.

I should be wrapping the rest of the prezzies this afternoon but i`m just going to slob around on the sofa and have a lazy day, the dawgies are both asleep after a nice walk and i think that i will join them soon :D

Got weighed this morning and have lost 3lb :rotfl:
It will all be back tomorrow and will probably bring some friends along too, i feel really dehydrated so will drink plenty of water and tea.

I`ll stop rambling now and have a browse before my nap :D

Beanrua - Sounds like you`ve been doing really well, great to hear

    Have a super Sunday everyone!

Heavy ice here - not sure if I will be able to walk to Lidls for yogurt and eggs.
B porridge and 2 slices toast with Tulsi Brahmi tea
L got lentils, cauli, broccoli and onions in slow cooker with spices. not sure if it'll be like stew or soup yet.
D - Don't know yet. Might squash up some of the veggies out of slow cooker and make burgers or patties out of it - might roll them in egg and oats.
Congrats mgtclare - you've done brilliant:j Enjoy your new coat.
sweet - I'm up and down with gains and losses. Got on the scales this morning and I'd lost a pound - got on again a short while later and had gained 2 lbs and my scales are new. I just go with the lowest at any given time!
Hope you get 'sorted' soon mazzers.:grouphug:

I love pints of Guinness. Always buy it where it is always flowing - stagnant Guinness is horrible.
Well done on weight loss sd.

I had three chicken thighs with loads of mayo, pile of salad and 4 more gummy bears last night. 8 teeny tiny.... not again!! No more sweets! I didn't feel so good all night, I don't react well to sugar.
This morning I had an egg and some all bran, lunch at work is chicken thigh and cauli. Meal plan has gone out the window tonight as I will be having roast beef tonight!

Thanks for the support, thank god I didn't have any pizza :)

Well done Adelight :j Hope you are very proud of yourself for resisting.

My dinner has just gone in the oven & it already smells amazing, I'm hungry yet I've not long had lunch. (Salami salad)

Really busy trying to get organised for xmas, I haven't even started wrapping the presents. :o
All my food is sorted though except a last minute fresh shop. I am going to cheat on Christmas day & boxing day but trying to make it not really bad.
I will make the gravy & stuffings low carb.
Also going to make a low carb mixed seafood platter for our starter. So lettuce with hm prawn cocktail. Salmon wrapped cream cheese with lemon/pepper. Cream cheese topped with a pinch of dried chilli flakes. I'll prepare this the night before so less work on xmas day. ;)
I just can't get motivated to do other stuff:mad: Right I'm off to clean this scruffy house.
Hope everyone is enjoying a lc day :)

Veggie stew was lovely - not enough left to make burgers/patties with. Just had a thought - I'm going to try toasting 1 or 2 slices of lc bread and crumbling it up to coat things with. Just been invited out for the evening - great excuse to get into my new tight jeans - here's hoping!!!

Beanru- I was on another lc website & found a veggie recipe I would like to try.

    Curried/spiced steamed veg.
    1Carrot
    1/4 lb cauli
    1/4 lb brocolli
    1 clove garlic
    1/4 small red onion

For the broth add 250ml of veg stock
    1 tbls of madras powder
    1/2 tbls of garam masala
touch of salt & mixed peppers.

I don't normally eat carrot as is higher carb than I like but this sounds very nice. :)

Thanks sistercas, hopefully it tastes as good as it sounds:rotfl:
