DH has just got down to 99.8 kg this morning. First time he's been below 100 for goodness only knows when. He's using less insulin since we've both been eating a lot less carbs, since I started the Dukan Diet end of July he said he wouldn't buy any more potatoes and he hasn't.
I'm still hovering at 66.9 kg but at present am happy to be below 67.
After church yesterday we decided to go out for lunch, to a new restaurant. Well, actually, it's now called Grand Central and is in the same building as one we went to a few weeks back when it was called the Outback Steakhouse. This went bust, sacked all its staff, now taken over by a new company and completely refurbished with an American railway theme. We thought we'd give it a try. On most menus there's not a lot I can eat, but at least, steak is always good. I had 8 oz fillet steak with vegetables and mushroom gravy. Very nice. Only - the young waiter either didn't listen, didn't hear or chose to ignore when I said '...and NO chips!' Plate came with chips, I sent it back, got it back minus chips. We decided to have pudding, usually we don't, but I chose lemon meringue pie (haven't had it for ages!!!), no cream, no ice cream. It was a very nice meal, expensive for what it was, we shan't go there very often, but it was one of the few places round about that wasn't decked out in 'seasonal' gear and we were curious to see what it was like. We'd been to the Outback Steakhouse and we liked it.
We really didn't want anything else to eat all day. In fact, we didn't. All I had, the rest of the day, was a yoplait Perle de Lait yogurt. A large chunk of steak took some digesting and kept me feeling not hungry for many hours.
Oh, and yesterday for breakfast I had 2 grilled rashers of smoked back bacon and a grilled tomato on one slice of wholemeal toast. This morning, a boiled egg with wholemeal toast.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.

My belly hasn't gone down much.. anyone got a large pin??
Not a great start today, went out on an empty stomach (i was rushing) and came home starving, wont say what i've eaten but gonna put it behind me and get some bread on the go.

margaretclare, glad low-carbing is working for you & your DH.
Not sure if you've seen this website http://www.diabetes.co.uk/diabetes-forum/viewforum.php?f=18 it has a forum on low-carbing - I was looking through it yesterday & there's some useful info for non-diabetic low-carbers as well.
mazzers, I've been to Tesco this morning & bought what I thought was the pork fillet, but now I'm not so sureIt wasn't shrink wrapped for a start & when I've read the label it says to cut into medallions & fry to cook. I was hoping to roast it in the oven  It only cost £3.18 so if I've made a boo boo it doesn't matter, it'll still get eaten one way or another!!
Also looked for the half-price almonds (forgot last week & probably too late now anyway) but Tesco have decided to shuffle aisles around in the last few weeks & I have no idea where the ethnic bit is now
I feel rubbish, headachey & bleurgh so have just had a coffee & a small bar of Aldi 70% choc - nomnomnom
Talking of choc (again) the 53p 74% Ivory Coast choc is only on special offer at that price & the offer ends today - got one to try. Noticed the Lindt is on offer at Tesco as well but I couldn't see the 85%. Also Green & Black's - got a bar of their 85% with madagascan vanilla to try. That's it, no more choc talk from me!!0 -
Evening Peeps
:hello: to Sistercas & margaretclaire
Not been bad so far today:D
Brekkie was bacon, scramblies, sausages & a mushroom
Dinner was a cheese and chilli jam sandwich
Snacks we cold sliced pork loin and bavarian smoked cheese rolled up together and i`ve just finished tea which was pork steaks done in the SC,
I found a recipe online and i just bunged em in with paparika, red wine, peppers & a tin of tomatoes and they were lovely. DH had most of the toms and juice though.
We`ve just been and done a massive @ldi shop and now my fridge is bursting with all manner of delicious lc delights:D
Its all that i can do to stop myself from opening it and shoving the lot down my throat:rotfl: Spent a fortune but it should last a couple of weeks at least and if i can force some bits of cooked meat into the freezer then i shall once i`ve sorted it out.
Sweet - I spent a while browsing the different choccys and then just shoved three bars into the trolley:D One of them was the dark with hazelnuts and then there were two others both different, none of them were particularly lc but if i don`t eat it all at once then i should be ok:D
I need to clean and prep the sc so that i can prep the chicken in it ready for tomorrow, not sure where its going to be overnight as the fridge really is rammed. There`s no room for DH`s beer but that can stand outside the back door as its freezing here. We had a sprinkling of snow this morning followed by huge hailstones and then sleet for most of the day. Hope it doesn`t freeze tonight otherwise it will be mighty slippery in the morning:eek:
Happy lcing peeps
SDPlanning on starting the GC again soon0 -
thanks everyone for the welcome :T

lunch was marmite cheese , toms , cucumber, more corned beef
tea was chicken in a cream sauce sweetcorn and peas , natural yoghurt for pud
now i need to stop myself wearing the carpet out between the living room and the fridge
sunnyday i love @ldis hazelnut choccy, at the moment i have some dark chocolate with chilli ( from Holl and b@rr@t- i didnt expect it to be so spicy :eek:0 -
Hello everyone.
I have cracked my breakfast problem by making the low carb american pancakes. They are lush! I have meddled with the recipe a bit and substituted some of the almond flour with flaxseed and am missing out the sweetener as it doesnt need it. Have one every morning now with a blob of butter and some raspberries, warmed up in the MW at work.:T
Choc - I have found the Lindt 90% to be the lowest carb but will try out Lidls. I fell off the wagon last night and had 50g of Galaxy as my choc had run out:eek:
Have found a lovely fresh soup in Waitrose -its £2 odd but does 2 lunches - Thai green chicken. The chunks of chicken are so big i need a knife fork and spoon to eat it :rotfl:
Must look out a low carb soup recipe - any recommendations? You're not your * could have not of * Debt not dept *0 -
Morning peeps
Sweet i think my pork fillet said to slice up too, i went googling for cooking times and cooked mine this way
http://startcooking.com/blog/198/How-to-Cook-a-Pork-Roast
First time i've used a meat thermometer, had a bargain in the bbq dept last yeardont think i'll bother again tho, the middle of my roast said 160 degrees but it was rather pink, so back in the oven it went.
Was lovely and tasty.
Sistercas, i know u'v done lc before, unsure what plan u'r doing but peas and sweetcorn are rather high carb.
Got lots of sanding done yesterday, stairs and hall today then the painting can begin.
Not relishing the task as there are five door frames, and thats just upstairs
Also got the walls to paint but i dont mind that, it's glossing i hate!
I will be very pleased if i can get it finished, been wanting/needing it done for aaages.0 -
Morning all
I'm upsetDD2 came home from school last night & announced she needs to take in chocolate & cream today because she's making profiteroles!! So my bargain 74% choc from Tesco has gone along with a tub of double cream
I'm gutted because I won't even be able to have any of those delicious, creamy, chocolatey bits of heaven!! :rotfl: Will have to get myself to Aldi & buy some more cream (it's actually cheaper in Tesco atm because it's 'buy 2 for £something - can't find where to check the price on the website without signing in?!') but while I'm in Aldi I may as well get some more choccie
& sounds like it will have to be the dark hazelnut seeing as it's so popular on this thread
lindens, the thai green chicken soup sounds lush, is it low-carb?? Also, is it Waitrose brand or another make??
I make roasted butternut squash soup which I adapted from the Idiot Proof Diet book - basically the roasted squash with added leek & cauli in stock & then blended - you can sprinkle on parmesan afterwards & crispy bacon. I also add a sprinkle of ground cumin & ground coriander when it's cooking.
mazzers, thanks for the pork link - the end result looks gorgeous doesn't it - I never thought to put an olive oil/herb marinade thing on it so will definitely do that. I don't think mine will take long to cook as it's only skinny - going to do it today.
B - bacon & egg
L - 2 buttered crispbreads with topping, soup (I MUST make this today!!)
D - hopefully roast pork with veggies
Have a good LC day everyone0 -
Talking about chocolate!
Low carb hot chocolate: in a cup put a good dollop of double or clotted cream and break into it a couple of squares of very dark chocolate - I used 85% cocoa. Sprinkle on some cinnamon and then microwave for 20 seconds. Mix into a paste. Slowly add some milk, whilst stirring until the cup is 3/4 full. Microwave again for a minute or until hot enough to drink.

Its their own make in the chilled area, in a plastic tub. Carbs are 10.5g per half a tub or 3.5g per 100g which i think is fine. As I said its filling and the chicken is shredded but some peieces are as big as goujons!
They only had one other soup which was lower which was Celeriac and something which was 8.5g per half a tub.
Also found a good blog from a lady who likes shopping at Lidl and is on a low carb. She hasnt updated it recently but it was very useful. I'm sure she must post on MSE as she had a £50 grocery challenge on there! I can't post the link just in case but google search for Lidl treats.;)You're not your * could have not of * Debt not dept *0
