Found this very interesting info on FB insulin resistance page.. describes me to a tee.
Cooked brekkie was off the menu in work so had to have porridge (the best of the worse) as i hadn't taken anything in, my God i was starving in two hours, slow release carbs haven't worked for years for me and this explains why.

Thanks for that Mazzers. That's me! I often don't eat at all until the afternoon and I'm fine. Then go crazy cruising for anything to munch on once I start. Unfortunately it still seems to happen even if I eat protein without carbs. I just wish I knew what the answer was.
I've been doing Dukan and lost a stone but a combination of stressors means I'm currently living on carp - ice cream and cheesecake. Bizarely I only seem to have gained a pound or so and am hoping it won't get too bad before I manage to get myself under control and get back on the wagon. Just not this weekend.
ps its lovely to see you all back again - this place was far too quiet.0 -
I`m eating a lot more swede since i learned the microwave trick, i love it but hate peeling and chopping it. Just in case anyone is wondering you rinse it and put it whole on a microwaveable plate, !!!!! it all over with a fork and microwave it on high for 20 to 25 mins. When its done stand for a couple of mins and chop off the top and then scoop out the middle. Its already mashed and you just need to add black pepper and lashings of butter

I wonder if this would work for Celeriac?
I have two in the fridge I really must deal with. I usually eat them grated mixed with just cider vinegar and loads of pepper but I used to occassionally eat as mash and I remember it being rather good and I fancy the idea of mash in this cold weather.
TMI warning - the OH objects when I eat lots of grated celeriac as its incredibly wind inducing in me - noxious and copious, even the cats object;)
I wonder if it will be the same cooked. He's away for the weekend so its a perfect time to experiment I suppose!0 -
Hello everyone

Hiya HanSpan :hello: long time no see, will try not to stand down-wind of you
When I made the microwaved swede it was just like a baked potato when it came out - the skin was a bit oozy & gooey where I'd pr1cked it with a knife before cooking, but the middle was perfectly cooked  No idea if the celeriac would work though, I've never bought it so don't even know what it looks like
Protein shake for brekkie, 1 Black Farmer Sausage, crispbreads with pate & soup for lunch, dinner will be chicken something & veg.
Will have a couple of glasses of wine tonight with a few almonds & maybe some more 70% choccie.
Happy LC days

Ooooh is 70% choc low carb friendly?
Last night I was desperate for a treat, I rooted around for a christmas pud, opened it, cut out a slice and was just about to tuck in when I realised it was raw :rotfl: Saved! It's gone in the freezer to be cooked er... anothr time.
I made some microwave flax crackers last night, they were okay for dipping in chilli but will try making a batch of oven type today. They have rave reviews on atkins forums. Also going to make some chicken liver pate to go with them! I'm feeling a lot better so in a cooking mood
Just about to make a "MIM" to go with a fried egg, i'll edit back if it tastes any good. Living cheap in central London :rotfl:0 -
Can I ask if you all if you meal plan? I'm away this week for 3 days with work & need to prep meals ahead of time for OH who also low carbs. Any ideas would be great

Evening Peeps
Very windy here - Han span you must be local:D:rotfl: If you do try the celeriac in the microwave let us know how it turned out, i`ve never eaten it before so it would be a nice change if its easy.
Scottishf - The bread recipe is HERE Only use that amount of splenda though if you like it sweet tasting, i use less than one spoonful.
Hannoja - My scales get carpetitis too:D
I `ve just eaten an early tea of chilli *licks lips* and it was lovely, i didn`t count the carbs but it can`t have been many and i`ve not eaten many today. Dinner was a ham sandwich and brekkie was scramblies and cooked meat with mushrooms as i couldn`t be @rsed to cook the bacon at w*rk.
Pinkprincess - I meal plan in a fashion ie i write down the main meals for the week and then try to stick to it. i have to get organised or i end up opening the fridge and pouring the contents down my throat:D
Mazzers - I always get blamed for everything lol After watching the video i know that i`m definitely insulin resistant, pre lc i could go all day without food and then start eating at tea time and then never stop for the rest of the day until i go to bed:eek: I can still do that now if i`m not careful but it seems to be easier to get out of the habit when i`m lcing.
I`m trying to make the most of my slowcooker atm, the chilli has been in there all day and tomorrow i`ll be putting some lamb shanks in before going to w*rk, i`ll do some green veg with them and shove a spud in the microwave for DH:D
Later in the week i`m going to try a reasonably lc sausage casserole and also chicken chasseur and bolognaise. I have a decent curry recipe somewhere if i can find it too.
When i got weighed this morning another lb had vanished so i`m trying to keep off the choccy tonight, hope i manage it
I`m off back into my favourite place now - the kitchen:D
Have good evenings peeps

I shop with vague ideas and now I'm low carb I plan in the morning/night before so I know I'm organised for lunch on the go and dinner when I get in starving.
Does he cook? Otherwise you could make a batch of bolognaise, meatball stew, prep veg and meat for stir fry etc. Depends on his abilities
The "MIM" was gross, I couldn't eat it. Don't know how people love them :eek:Living cheap in central London :rotfl:0 -
His ability to cook is an omlette at best, even then I fear for my kitchen:eek:
I meal plan religiously which is why my plans changing is a worry.
I can prepare him flax muffins, and he can grill bacon for braekfast's but it is lunch & dinner I'm racking my brains what to do.
Snacks he has pork scratchings & berries & almonds.Life is short, smile while you still have teeth
