I've been on the Atkins now for a couple of months and managed to lose 37lbs, looking for more variations on food now though. Looked at the Low carb cheese bread recipe so going to give that a try. Does anyone have any tasty favs to share?

    Wow! Well done you! :T

Sunny, how do you do the 'a tiny voddie' and 'one slice of lc bread' thing... If I have a drink, I have a DRINK ! likewise with other stuff.. if I made the bread I'd probably eat the whole loaf in a day! :o
(Hi btw. Nice to 'see you' again :D )

i force myself to only have a bit of voddie, sometimes difficult though and i don`t manage it but on the days that i do it makes me feel as if i`m not going without IYKWIM, the bread is great, i`ve had pate on toast this morning.

Scottishf - Wow! you`ve done great!
You might like the pate for a change, in the slowcooker i put 2 packs of lambs liver and some smoked bacon, a tin of tomatoes and lots of black pepper. Let it cook and when its done and whilst still warm throw it all in the blender or food processor, keep the juice to one side for adding later to get the right consistency. When its smooth chop up half a pack of butter (or more) and blend that in too. Spoon into ramekins and freeze, lovely on hot buttered toast made with lc bread.

Tonight for tea i`ve had fish pie - cod, smoked haddock and salmon flaked and mixed with a few peas and a spoon of corn, condensed soup for the sauce and mashed cauliflower for the topping covered in grated cheese. I make a huge pie and then divide into 4 so that the carbs in the sauce get evened out. Had this with a few green beans.

Tomorrows tea is pork and bacon meatballs(made these yesterday) in a dish with garlic italian seasoning and passatta poured over and oven baked for a while. DH will have his on a bed of spaghetti and i`ll be having mine on courgette ribbons :D

I`m going to make Mazzers low carb lasagne recipe soon cos i love it, i`ve also got the ingredients in to make a lc bakewell tart when i get the chance to. Both the recipes are in the link in the first post.

I`m up to 13lb lost now  the bottle of wine that i`m drinking will
probably change that when i get on the scales tomorrow though :o

    Hello everyone :hello:

I have just started this diet, this is day 3 so still in the induction phase. I think I'm going to need this support lol.

I'm not finding it too bad as i'm not a big bread or potato person. However - i have a very sweet tooth; cakes, sweets choc you name it. But thats why I'm going on this diet I need to break my sweet tooth or diabetes here i come :o
The wierdest thing for me, after following low fat diets/WW/SW etc is eating full fat things and cheese etc!!
I had bad cravings during the night and sore muscles but no headaches (Yet!)

I can't belive how quickly the bloated feeling has gone! That feels really good.
A couple of questions - can i chew sugar free gum?
i'm sick to the back teeth of drinking plain water, so far I am allowing myself one cup of tea a day with milk and splenda - am i being too hard on myself? i guess for induction i really need to stick to plain water?
    Thanks all

  • Beware of any white refined sugar hidden in food that is labled "good and healthy". If it says disacharride for carb content then it has Fructose in and this cannot be processed by the body easily. In fact it can cause the hormone Leptin to switch off and stop working, thus preventing the body from telling the brain, I'm full. So of course you eat more and weight goes on. Cook meals from scratch in a bigger batch and freeze the other portions. Try not to drink fruit juice as this has loose fructose in it. Drinking Water and Milk or tea and coffee without any sweetener/sugar in it is best. I have found that this is a weight loss regimine that I can follow and still loose weight, so far over 8 stones since 2007. Still another 7 or so to go, but my steroids may mean that I fail for the moment on that. But I have cut as much sugar and stuff out of diet as I can and have increased potassium salts to help combat steroid effect. But you have to watch that as it can cause heart problems if you take too much. I have to take these med's because if I did not, then my nerves cannot communicate with my muscles, which can lead me to being 90% blind short of breath and not much strength to do anything.

    Hi Lindens :hello:

i drink fruit tea, i`m careful not to drink too much though. I buy the red berries fruit teabags from @ldi and i reuse the same teabag three times. It does get very weak by the third cup but i`m used to it - i just leave the bag in it as i drink and top up from the kettle as i need it.

I do let myself have a couple of normal cuppas each day, the first one in the morning has got to be a normal one and then theres at least one other later. I gradually reduced my sugar in tea from two teaspoons and eventually getting down to so little that it wasn`t worth putting any in. I can realy recommend doing this as your taste buds change quicker than you think, i can`t stand sugar in tea or coffee now.

Horseunderwater, thats a great weightloss  sorry to hear that you have other problems to contend with too.

Last night after drinking far too much wine i had a binge, i ate lots of gherkins, a pack of pastrami and two sausages :rotfl: at least it was a lc binge lol

    Have good days peeps.

    Thanks for the tips, both.
I already batch cook and freeze so will continue this - planning ahead is half the battle.
I will try reducing my sweetener in tea - I will get some granulated splenda, I am on one spoonful ATM so will gradually reduce.
I really can't get on with the fruit teas but maybe in a couple of weeks when the cravings have gone and my taste buds have changed it will be worth me trying them again. I was going to make some jelly with fruit tea!

Splenda and their ilk a waste of money.
Just use white sugar until you reduce it so much that you can do it without.
I sometimes drink tea black with no sugar warm not hot as I find that is refreshing and has good antioxident levels, thus helping get rid of toxins. Green tea can also be good, but I need a teasp lemon juice in it.
What I find fascinating is that my GP and their diabetic nurses (who are all skinny winnies) did not believe me that I was eating a healthy diet. Proved them all wrong when I had a severe blood loss in bowel in 2007. Had the camera exam twice in 2 days. Consultant was apparently amazed at just how healthy and clean it all was. No disease at all. His words were cleaner than a new born baby! I kid you not. So I had him write it down in my notes, so that GP etc could read it and see. Proof by a consultant was the backing I needed. A lot of our illnesses can be explained by too many carbs and fructose, which is in Fruit juice loose and white sugar. Eaten in fruits and veg raw and not cooked is fine, if small amounts as it is locked inside cell walls, so passes through without too much interaction. An Apple a day with skin can stop and reduce bad LDL type B cholesterol from clagging the arterial walls up. The type A LDL is fine as it has large molecules and these pass through without bother. It also has the benefit of increasing your HDL levels up. No one seems to know why as yet, but if it helps without using statins, so much the better.

I think you're right about sweeteners, I find I crave something sweet more after eating something with a sweetener than if I had something with sugar in.

    so what are your Favorite
    meals on this?
I started a thread in the arms about it, we eat everything we used to eat just substitute the carbs foods.

For example a Sunday roast is different in the fact that we have pigs in blankets instead of yorkshires. Veg is low carb cabbage & broccoli.
Gravy is the pan juices reduced with a touch of double cream & mashed potatoes are mashed cauliflower with some parmasen in. Roasties are the same mashed cauli & cheese but deep fried in small spoon sized amount's. Lovely :j

Favourite snacks are prawns or a few berries with double cream.

I also love chilli (without the beans as they are high carb) over cauli :)
Life is short, smile while you still have teeth :D
