    hi all,
I just started on my first attempt at a low-carb diet on monday following this book. I also kicked coffee at the same time as that was the recommendation. Its day 4 now and I feel terrible. nauseous & headache and a bit achy. is this normal ? is it the lack of carbs or lack of caffeine (or both) ?! any tips to get through it ? how long will it last ?
    thanks,
    Nick

Day 3/4 was my worst, i'm day 6 and feel alot better today (even though its TOTM)
I found it was just willpower that got me through - I drank lots of water and kept myself busy. If I needed something extra, peanut butter in celery has been my friend. But i'm only allowed it once a day

    Made me chuckle anyway :D

You should start to feel ok again very soon, i usually get the headaches and tiredness but this time when i restarted they didn`t happen - strange that.

It normally happens when all the rubbish leaves your system and i think that its your bodies way of trying to say "stoppit and give me all the carp that i`m used to" you may be getting the caffeine withdrawal on top of that but it won`t last much longer, i think last time mine was around 5 days before i started feeling ok but the bloated feeling was gone by day 2.

I`ve got a nice plateful of cold lamb and cheese with a naughty blob of the chilli jam that i made last week, later we`re having lamb curry and i`ll have cauli rice with mine. The meat is marinading in the fridge.

The bakwell tart is made and is sitting in the fridge next to a huge jug of whipped cream:D I`m going to enjoy a nice piece of that later, just got to run round with the hoover and then most of my day off spent cleaning will be gone. I`m sooo not wanting to go back to work in the morning!!!!

I didn't quite kick coffee but cut down drastically and didn't suffer too badly.
Just back from a long walk and realise that I have so much more energy now than before.
Just discovered Irwins 7 seeded loaf which has only 6 carbs per slice.
I'm now 5 or 6lbs off my target loss and feeling great. Hope it's not all back on again for Xmas!!!!
sunnyday - you're a domestic goddess as well as being an inspiration to us all here. Well done.:T
I have always found the recipes on this thread delicious - one of the reasons that I have been able to stick at it -and the support is great.

    Evening peeps

well tea was nice, the bakewell was a bit lacking but thats my fault lol

I used raspberries that i softened in a pan with 1tsp of splenda for the base and when i made the topping i only put in two tsps of the stuff, it wasn`t sweet enough and the raspberry seeds were everywhere lol.

Beanrua - Maybe domestic goddess wannabe :rotfl:

When i bake with sugar its perfect but the splenda always tastes too sweet to me so i end up varying the amounts and rarely get it spot on first time.

I did however manage two pieces with whipped cream and feel well and truly stuffed now, i know that i shouldn`t have made it really as i feel the teeniest bit bloated now and i don`t like that at all!

I`ve just been sorting out some bits and bobs to take to w*rk to eat tomorrow, i have to get organised the night before as i don`t function too well at 4am  On this shift my sleep pattern is very erratic and i tend not to lose when i`m like that so i can`t wait for the next run of shifts to finish.

My DH is an angel :A i`ve been feeding him allsorts of stuff lately and he hasn`t moaned yet :D

    Night all.

  • Just had 2 dippy eggs & buttered GG cracker soldiers for breakfast & I'm stuffed.

Sunny, hope you manage to get through work, pretty sure I wouldn't function too well at 4am either!!

beanrua, we've always said on here that Sunny is a domestic goddess - she certainly puts my culinary efforts to shame!! :o Think it was alias that once described her as a cross between Barbara from the Good Life & Nigella?! :rotfl:

nicka99, hope your symptoms are easing off a bit - I felt the same as lindens with days 3/4 being the worst - major carb crash (sugar withdrawal for me) headache & so tired. It does pass though.

I work shifts too. I've been doing a low/no carb thing since August and I'm doing quite well. But when I work nights I really struggle. I find I don't sleep very well during the day with no carbs. (prob my imagination!!) and on the first night I have been up all day eating, then I'm up all night... Eating! I do a week of nights once a month and know I'll lose next to nothing that week. :o

Anyone know of any 'normal' i.e. physical shops that sell sugar free sweets?

I bought some in cute little boxes from M&S and love the orange and lemon ones. Sugar free mints and gum are easy to find, but I'd like a bit more choice. I bought some 'De Bron' wine gums from Avidlite and really liked them, but I don't want to get more stuff from there really if I can help it. Put a bottle of low-carb ketchup and a couple of little bags of sweets in their basket yesterday and it came to £10  Then they arrive in a ridiculously huge box containing mostly bags of air!

I'm not a big sweet eater, but it's nice to have them occasionally.

Btw, I know about the laxative affects of these things. That's not a problem atm believe me!

anyone know where I can get pork scratchings which I think Im allowed as a low carb snack ? I normally shop at sainsburys online and nothing on there - been into tescos and they dont have them - at least not in any sensible place like with the crisps or nuts and no staff were around to ask !
