Hi there, I lost 3 stones a couple of years ago but have regained 3 of those
ANyway, New Year new start to I'm off again. I wanted to suggest a couple of things I used before. To help with the lack of sweets I used to use 2 squares of dark chocolate melted with a tiny bit of !!!!!! and used it to coat nuts, spread them out on a plate and kept them in the fridge. It made quite a few and would usually last me a couple of days.
Someone mentioned breakfast and not having a lot of time. I used to make egg mayo and grilled sausages (cold) cut up in a tub and eat those mid morning or frist thing but they would have been made the night before.
Another favourite were duck grattons, I was living in France at the time, cubes of duck skin with a bit of meat underneath fried, a bit like pork scratchings but in the chiller cabinet. Should be easy enough to make at home, very nice when others are sitting around eating crisps etc!0 -
I am losing weight on the Atkins diet and I can't believe it! All this meat, butter cream and cheese is weird on a diet but the real shock is that I really don't feel very hungry- years ago I actually took appetite supressants and felt hungrier than I do now. I'm 3 weeks in and have lost 9.5lb which for me is much better than on other diets no matter how faithfully I have stuck to them. My only worry is that I know some of my eating is stress-related and the stress is still there, has anyone any tips for me on this slightly old thread?0

Hi there ,
from what I remeber about Atkins I read and reread the book a few years ago...I'd like to think that because your hunger is satified that you really wont want to eat ...I know I didnt ...
Also Atkins also quotes that cholestoral level drop becaues you are using fat as a fuel... The danger I think is when you start dabbleing with high fat food and add carbs..this then would stop your fuel buring if the carb intake is too high.....
Carry on with your good work....
Maybe worth either getting the book or rereading it to double check.0 -
All gone quiet here?
I'm still low-carbing though falling off the wagon was all to easy. For last two weeks been doing hard core LC and feel fantastic for it. Had a slight blip on Saturday (night out) but refuse to feel guilty or become negative as it was a great morale booster and it just adds to the mix.0 -
Hi all
I've been low carbing for a while and have lost 1/4 of my target weight so far. Then I fell ill and have been on a plateau ever since. Very excited to be re-starting and eating proper food again. So one thing I learned while I was convalescing is, I can stand monotony for a while.
My fitness buddy has been low carbing on Atkins for over 6 years, with a twist - he has a binge day every week. I liked the sound of that, so he directed me to Tim Ferriss' new book "The 4 hour body" which I'll be following from next week.
It's called Slow Carbing and concentrates on combining a monotonous low-carb diet (legumes, protein (meat, fish, eggs etc( and veg in order of greater qty), lots of water (of course) and vitamin supplements. It also allows one day a week to go nuts.
There are basically 4 rules:
#1 No white carbohydrates
#2 Eat the same few meals over and over and over and over
#3 Don't drink calories
#4 Take 1 day off
The key thing is to measure and monitor, body fat%, weight, blood sugar and total inches are the 3 I'm going for.
I'm easing myself into it by adjusting my legumes and eating a protein-rich meal no more than 30 minutes after waking. Water is my greatest issue, I've had 2L today but unless I fill a bottle/jug and put in in front of me, I can spend the entire evening not drinking.
Next challenge is to find cheap but good quality (organic if possible) protein/legumes/veggies for 18 easy meals (I decided 4 meals a day won't fit my schedule for now and legumes are dead filling!).
If anyone is already doing this, looking to start, or has suggestions on where to buy food, please share your ideas0
