Hi Rebekah,
How do you get past the hunger then? I'm genuinely curious! I sat there eating egg after egg after egg and still couldn't sleep because my body kept cramping with starvation. I put on 4lbs in a fortnight trying to do that! So since then I've been less harsh with myself and allowed a few "good" carbs in.
Everyone's different anyway, I know - I've lost 5lbs this week doing it my way - but I'd still like to know how others manage itMortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -
Hi Folks hows everybodies week been?
I climbed back on the wagon on Wednesday as kids went back to school so it was time to get back to normal.
I canit bear the idea of meat every day for breakfast ( I dont eat beans or whole eggs either .so they are out for me ) Yes ok im fussy.
So its a shake for breakfast ...
Tonight for dinner I am making a cottage pie with a topping of celeriac and cauliflower leek and cheesy wholegrain mustard mash.
I wasn't too sure re the carbs in celeriac but I looked it up and its seems ok ...

a reply to northernlass,
I listened to some of the womans hours from your link ...
Weight issues esp. for women is not as straight forward as GP's thibk they just say you need to lose weight..Thinking its just a food issue...Its a very complex thing, When you think how we use food as either treat or celebration , to feed our familys , plus we get hungry....most health pros. I know poo poo the low carb way of eating....but concider how much food it around made from flour, and hidden sugars basically conveniance food.
I was spoken to by a stick thin GP very condisendinly prejudging me as fat and lazy...
Maybe the answer to the obestity problem is education and councelling help as to why people eat as it is often not a hungry reason..
Thats that off my ample chest....0 -

Hello oldies - haven't been here for a while 'cos I was okay with my weight, but have now got a stone to lose so have rejoined the ranks.
I've been doing my vegetarian low-carb thang for 7 days now and lost 3lb, but I'm getting such horrible carb cravingsI spent all last night dreaming about powdered doughnuts and just seem to be constantly hungry and dizzy today despite piling in the seitan and yoghurt. I know it's only going to get worse
However, there are two new tricks I've learned from other sources, which may or may not work but are worth exploring:
1. My personal trainer recommends a "diet day off" once a week (but I won't be doing any until I've carb cleansed). The idea behind this is to surprise your metabolism, so that instead of getting used to your diet and stabilising, it jump-starts itself whenever you eat the naughty food so that the weight keeps coming off. It also makes it easier to stick to - you might not be allowed to eat that packet of Jelly Tots but you can save it until Saturday...
2. i-Lipo. Bear with me. It's a beauty procedure (non-invasive) that uses light to empty fat cells on a particular region of your body. Even when I was a happy weight, I still had bingo wings and hated it - I always wear long sleeves to cover them. So I got a cheap Groupon deal at a local beauticians and had my first of three sessions yesterday. In half an hour my arms had shrunk 0.5 cm all round, so I'm hoping that combined with the diet..?
Anyway, hello and supportive noises
I know nothing about 2) but 1) is pseudo-science nonsense that will make absolutely no difference to your metabolism. Is your PT actually qualified to talk about such things because it doesn't sound that way if they are telling you such rubbish.0 -
Hey Badgerlady
When I just eat eggs I eat high fat - lots of butter, lots of mayo + as many eggs as I need to be satiated. That way I can loose 1-1.5lb a day
I lost majority of my weight following Atkins by the book but modified, I prepared portions and took everything to work etc with me - I used some quorn products to assist but mainly wholefoods.
At the moment with the egg fasting I check ketosis with ketosticks every couple days to make sure I am deeply in ketosis.
If I need a couple days break I will add in the following for one meal :
- 100g cottage cheese
- 1 Quorn burger/Sausage (with eggs + plenty of fats)
- 100g greek yoghurt
- 1/2 Avacado
Also I have the eggs in lots of formats so I dont get bored...although saying this I could eat boiled w/butter till the cows come home!
Crustless quiche
Fried eggs
Scrambled eggs
Boiled
Poached
Egg cream (blended drink - eggs, cream, davinci syrup, crushed ice, tea/coffee base)
If I am hungry I have tea..if still hungry in 1-2 hours then I will go ahead and have the eggs. No limit for me, if its 12 I need in the day then thats what I have.
Hope that is some helpOU Law studentMay Grocery challenge£30/ £110 -

The metabolism bit, maybe (although a lot of diets use a similar premises). Sticking to it though? I can vouch for that! It's so much easier for me psychologically to know I can still eat what I want in a controlled way. And I did it all the way through my weight loss last year, so it doesn't do any harm.
I've been on my diet eight days now and lost 5lbs.

There could be something in this rest day as the Food Doctor Ian Maberly says you should be 80% good and 20% naughty ....
So maybe you dont feel completely deprived and are able to stick to it long term..thus ensuring sucess.
As I have said before the mind needed to be sorted and the weight could just not be such an issue..0 -
Hi Badger_Lady - Thanks for replying to my post. You are right, I think for the most part, weight/food issues are much more complicated. Unlike cigarettes or alcohol, you cannot stop eating food. It is a legal and relatively cheap way of supporting yourself in times of 'trouble' (boredom, fear, loneliness, anger). I believe the trick is to spot the times when you are emotionally and not physically hungry. Once a person starts to do this, then they have the choice to eat or not eat as a response to the emotion (either is OK, it is the choice that is important). Food can make things better short term ... but long term a person needs to consider whether it is helpful to them.
I think the reason that some diets work for some people and others do not work, shows that we are subtly different. If eating what you want in a controlled way works for you, then that is great! However, if you don't feel supported and miserable, then maybe it is time for a change.
