  • Hi everyone,
I am thinking of trying low carbing - I have the Atkins books and Idiot Proof diet books. I know being organised will be the key to sticking to the diet so I hope to have a bulk cooking session to fill up the freezer with low carb friendly food.

Please can anyone share any ideas for things which I could cook up in either the slow cooker or pressure cooker then freeze in portions and just add a bit of fresh veg to make an easy meal?

    Thanks,
    Slinky

I've been considering switching to a low carb plan for a while now. Other than atkins, is there a plan that anybody would recommend?

    Hey Timbo

Have you tried making low carb bread from flax meal. You can get it in Holland & Barrett and places like that. You can see the recipe if you do a google search for making the bread. Pretty easy. All done in about 25 mins.

Thanks bandraboy: I'll take a look as there is a H&B in town.
However if its more than 9g carbs a slice then I'll stick to Hovis.
The next few weeks I shall be cutting out all bread anyway as I want to kickstart the diet again!

puddings: the meta diet is a VERY effective fast loss starter diet (1lb a day I kid you not!) BUT it is VERY aggressive: i.e. 60g of meat/fish only, egg whites only, water, protein shakes and nothing else!
The weight does fall off though AND you have to take fish oil supplements as you get constipated!
You then have to be really careful not to put it back on afterwards, adding only small amounts of carbs to a normal diet.
The theory is the same: that with no carb to burn the body goes straight to the fat, whether thats in the diet or on the body, as protein is too hard to metabolise for fuel.

I have a copy of the cdrom/book if anyone wants it (for the same price I paid: not sure if I'm allowed to say that here!)
Unless specifically stated all posts by me are my own considered opinion.
If you don't like my opinion feel free to respond with your own.

a couple of bread type recipes for u all to try

    WAFFLE OOPSIE BREAD
1 egg white beaten til solid
1 egg yolk mixed with grated cheese and a tablespoon of mayo
gently combine the 2 so as not to knock the air out of the white. pour onto a waffle maker and cook approx 10mins, it comes out like bread and is the right size to make into a sandwich!!

    INSTANT BREAD/cake
50g Ground Almonds - u can use less almond and more flax
    50g flaxmeal ..or 50/50 ..i do 20flax 80almond
    25g melted butter
    2 eggs
    1 tablespoon cream
1/2 teaspoon baking powder.Mix wet ingredients, then add the dry. Pour into whatever container you like- (a lunch box makes it sawndwich shaped) and nuke for 3 mins
u can make lots of variations of this by adding different herbs etc or add in sweetener and lemon or other essence or da vincis if u have it and make it into a cake

    hope that helps

I followed the Dukan Diet for a couple of months before my Christmas binge:o and it is the only diet I have lost considerable weight on. Since I have hit 40 any diet I followed Atkins, Slimming World etc the weight loss was miniscule.

Anyway after several weeks of christmas cake, chocolate, (I could go on) I am restarting the Dukan diet.

Newbie to Low carbing here. I am currently 13.5 st and 5ft9. I have been left fairly incapacitated over the previous 4 months and piled the weight on...in addition to some I already had lol! I would ultimately like to get down to 10st but I know that is going to take a while.
I have a terrible sweet tooth so I know that is going to be the hardest part to overcome, but as it's normally my downfall I am hoping to conquer it once and for all!

Just rembered sugar free Jellies....make some and put in little rammerkins then you feel like you are having pudding.:T

Hi All, i regularly come on and off this thread as although i know this way of eating works i find it hard to stick to any form of dieting :( back on track, day 1 over with. I weighed myself this morning and have gained a st from before my xmas binge, was doing really well on low carb until my xmas party week and the days up until new years were total write offs with every morning trying to get back on track but by lunchtime it be out the window.

This time am going to try and not let the scales rule, whenever i weigh myself and i havent lost anything i would just end up wanting to and actually cheating not this time. Want to be alot slimmer by the end of the year :) come on 2011! x

    Eep!

Hello oldies - haven't been here for a while 'cos I was okay with my weight, but have now got a stone to lose so have rejoined the ranks.

I've been doing my vegetarian low-carb thang for 7 days now and lost 3lb, but I'm getting such horrible carb cravings :( I spent all last night dreaming about powdered doughnuts and just seem to be constantly hungry and dizzy today despite piling in the seitan and yoghurt. I know it's only going to get worse :(

However, there are two new tricks I've learned from other sources, which may or may not work but are worth exploring:

    1. My personal trainer recommends a "diet day off" once a week (but I won't be doing any until I've carb cleansed). The idea behind this is to surprise your metabolism, so that instead of getting used to your diet and stabilising, it jump-starts itself whenever you eat the naughty food so that the weight keeps coming off. It also makes it easier to stick to - you might not be allowed to eat that packet of Jelly Tots but you can save it until Saturday...

    2. i-Lipo. Bear with me. It's a beauty procedure (non-invasive) that uses light to empty fat cells on a particular region of your body. Even when I was a happy weight, I still had bingo wings and hated it - I always wear long sleeves to cover them. So I got a cheap Groupon deal at a local beauticians and had my first of three sessions yesterday. In half an hour my arms had shrunk 0.5 cm all round, so I'm hoping that combined with the diet..?

Anyway, hello and supportive noises :)
