TY Eric... this time doing it slowly and gradually yes. I read everything I could find on diabeties and low carb sounded the best way to go. It does work. Thanks for this thread everybody, have learned a lot just reading through it.
Drink water as prescribed in the diet you are following, this should help combat constipation.0 -

And this is why newbies might not get such a quick answer, it's all been answered before!
See attached list of low carb veg:

Still high for induction but could be incorporated later in the diet?0 -

I wish people in here would answer newbies questions...I've asked a couple of times and nobody answers, the conversation just flows on
I'm trying to do LC to help my husband who is diabetic and not very well. Am quite worried and although there are lots of LC and diabetic forums, I like this one best ! So please, if you see Qs from new names, take time out to answer. Because it is a whole new way of eating and its not easy.
Last time he was very ill and rushed to hospital, because they said we jumped into LC too fast and his whole system went into shock and stopped dead. I got such a fright as he was so very ill. So now I'm nervous about starting it again - but it keeps his BG steady and it will help me lose weight too
I need to know what kind of thing to get him with a cup of tea- can you get some form of cracker or ryvita thats low carb? he wont just eat a cube of cheese , says it makes him feel like a rat.And how do you stop constipation? That seems to be common on this diet. TY
Hi - I too now eat low carb for health reasons - I have impaired glucose tolerance and am hoping to avoid type 2 diabetes
I was shocked when I researched diabetes and found that low carb diets are still not recommended for diabetics in the uk - they seem much more up to date in the US (pains me to say that!) I just don't see the point of eating carbs then taking insulin to cope with it.
Have you seen the book Diabetes 101? Google it - there is also a related website that is very good. It describes a way of changing your diet to control your blood sugars which is more gradual than what you describe - basically you eat a meal, check your glucose levels at 1 and 2 hours and then adjust the meal next time round if they are too high
I like the peanut butter muffins in the Low Carb Vegetarian Cook book - basically peanut butter, butter and egg and ground almonds with sweetener to taste - I make a dozen small buns at a time and freeze them - getting them out one at a time when in need. You can put cocoa powder in too to make them chocolatey
Good luck with the changes - I've been doing this about 3 months now and have lost 11lb (quite slowly, I wasn't overweight to start with) and my sugar is much more under control - I'm looking forward to my next A1C testDownshifted

Doing this now DS, and yes I agree re diabetes advice. Our practice nurse still says eat plenty of pasta and potatoes and fruit... I will have a look on that site, thanks.0
