Good luck! I seem to be able to tell if I've eaten too many carbs now!

my test was to see how long before I went into ketosis on my treadmill, normally about 15 mins, but I have been on an exercise ban for the last 2 weeks so I am having to do it by "ear"

Hey Eric what does this mean in relation to exercising on the treadmill???

This has got me very curious!!!!

Anyway day three of low carb and a roast chicken in the oven with some veg, a little gravy and no spuds!

Its a rough way to monitor how many carbs are being stored in my body as fuel, when you go into ketosis (fat burning mode) during exercise you can smell and taste acetone, the harder you work the stronger it is, the quicker i go into ketosis the less carbs (glycogen) i have stored in my body

Its one of the things i disagree with atkins on, certainly in my personal experience, is that it does not take ages to go into ketosis, you can switch it on and off very quickly once the carb store is empty, in fact most people go into it naturally at night

I wish people in here would answer newbies questions...I've asked a couple of times and nobody answers, the conversation just flows on :) I'm trying to do LC to help my husband who is diabetic and not very well. Am quite worried and although there are lots of LC and diabetic forums, I like this one best ! So please, if you see Qs from new names, take time out to answer. Because it is a whole new way of eating and its not easy.
Last time he was very ill and rushed to hospital, because they said we jumped into LC too fast and his whole system went into shock and stopped dead. I got such a fright as he was so very ill. So now I'm nervous about starting it again - but it keeps his BG steady and it will help me lose weight too :)
I need to know what kind of thing to get him with a cup of tea- can you get some form of cracker or ryvita thats low carb? he wont just eat a cube of cheese , says it makes him feel like a rat. :) And how do you stop constipation? That seems to be common on this diet. TY :)

Aldi sell a crisp bread (savour bakes) 59p per pack and are 2.8g per crisp bread (look and taste like ryvita and about 25 in a pack).

Holland and Barrett sell scan bran which from memory are about 2.8g per cracker (10 in a pack) and are very high in fibre which will help with constipation:eek: (£1.35)

Have a look at the first page, there are links to recipes that are low carb including some lovely cakes, quiches and nibbles:)
If you think nobody cares whether you're alive or dead, try missing a couple of mortgage payments.

    My way is Atkins;)

my thoughts are the condition sounds serious so do what ever the medical experts recommend, not forum "guru's"

there have been many cases of people reversing type II with a reduced carb diet, weight loss and exercise, but still follow the experts advice on this

TY Eric... this time doing it slowly and gradually yes. I read everything I could find on diabeties and low carb sounded the best way to go. It does work. Thanks for this thread everybody, have learned a lot just reading through it. :)
