  • **Pops back in to say “it wasn’t me” too!**

AH – re salad dressings, try adding mustard to olive oil plus mixed herbs and / or garlic. I usually throw in vinegar too, but lemon juice can be just as effective as you are avoiding it. I don’t have a fixed recipe, just experiment. A Chinese style one can be quite nice too – soy sauce, a couple of drops of sesame oil (it can be quite overpowering), mashed garlic and mashed ginger. I sometimes use this one to marinade pork chops.

Right gang, food-wise it’s been a truly awful month or so and boy, am I feeling it. I started really well with swish packed lunches but then I had awful nausea & all I could face was bland carbs which, as we all know, can very easily turn into a full-on, never-ending carb binge. Turns out the nausea was caused by migranes triggered by awful lighting in the office (sorted now). I also seem to be a bit over-sensitive to chillis. :o

I’ve got into the terrible habit of a bacon butty for breakfast, being part of the office crowd for lunch (sandwich shop / chippy / pizza / maccy ds / etc), carp for tea. NOT very moneysaving and awful for my health – I’ve ballooned.

So, this weekend I plan to… plan! Get organised & get sorted. Pre-planning & focus. I hate the food I’m eating at the moment & really miss my low carb menus. Wish me luck…!

    Hi LCers

Hope you don't mind me joining in, blame Gers who popped the link on the OS thread where I normally reside.

Been doing the LC thingy for 4 weeks now, managed 4 kilos off, but it is starting to get to me a little as I was hoping for better results. One problem (though a nice one) is we are out in Spain for a couple of months, and getting obscure ingredients is hard to say the least. I went on the LC when I got here, following Atkins from when I did it with more success about 6-7 years ago. Getting totally fed up of having to cook a breakfast, and even though I love eggs, could manage a couple of days without one IYKWIM, together with bacon being v. expensive out here. Trying to fit in more veg as being bunged up is another problem.

Current diet seems to take the form of:
B - 2 rashers Bacon - peppers & mushrooms, with an egg - or - Scrambled Egg with a sprinkling of cheese

L - Bowl of Salad, Lettuce, celery, peppers, tiny bit of tomato, crab sticks, mixed with a little mayo, sometimes ham and/or cheese instead of the crab sticks

D-Fish or Meat with cauli (sometimes the cheesy version) brocolli, green beans, dessert is - no sugar jellies with fruit - raspberries atm.

Drinks, Black Coffee, Diet Drinks (no sugar, carbs or calories) but mainly water.

Any idea where I am going wrong?

    Inspiration gratefully received.

    Welcome here Donny-Gal.

I really am no expert, others are, but from what I see you need to increase the amount of fat in your diet. It relies on low carb, high protein and high fat. I also find that increasing the amount of water I drink helps enormously, although it's' common to reach a plateau or stall sometimes. From what I've read one remedy is a 3 day meat feast -but please... I'm not an expert on this!

Breakfast is the tough one, I agree. At the moment I'm having a whey protein powder shake each morning as I too got a little fed up with bacon and eggs. In it I put some berries just to flavour it up.

The eggy muffins work too and they can be frozen. Think SD is having scrambled eggs with mushrooms in the morning. Recently I've been making up hard boiled eggs with mayo and then some other flavouring (tomatoes, bacon bits, herbs etc), enough for a couple of days, and keeping it in the fridge.

    Hope this works for you.

Today I've had my breakfast. Lunch will be some defrosted bolognaise sauce with shredded pointed cabbage and some cauliflower. Evening meal to be decided.

Things are getting tougher but I don't want my waist to get any bigger!

I have dieted for years, watching cals and fats etc. But not sure on carbs. I think I understand that its things like potatoes, pasta, rice are high carb, which as being on slimming world diet, this was my main food.
But I'm giving something else a go, celebrity slim. I'm looking for advice on the carbs. Are peach activia fat free yogurts low carb? or are there lower carb opinions.
I a complete carb cutting novice, so any advice will be much appreciated.
    Thanks

there are two types of carbs sugar and starch, sugar is quick release and can cause insulin spikes which in turn can trigger hunger cravings, starch is slow acting and good for long term body fuelling.

to work out how quickly a carb affects your body we use the Glycemic Index or GI for short, this is a scale of 100 to 1 that shows how fast a carb acts on the body, 100 is the fastest, 54 (slower) or lower is considered good

there are lots of websites that list the GI of different foods, you want to aim for medium or low GI carb and defiantly avoid processed carbs like sugar and pasta (unless its wholemeal)

    http://www.the-gi-diet.org/lowgifoods/

    so for your yoghurt

    http://www.mysupermarket.co.uk/tesco-price-comparison/Yogurts/Activia_Fat_Free_Mixed_Yellow_Yogurt_8x125g.html

it contains 6.3g of sugar per 100g which is 6.3% sugar

now the $100 question is this a high carb food, if your on a low carb diet and restricted to 20g of carb a day then 6.3g of carb is a lot, nearly 1/3rd of your daily allowance, if your on a lower carb diet 6.3g is a reasonable amount imo

this chart lists which fruits are slow acting (low GI), in the middle on the right

    http://www.the-gi-diet.org/lowgifoods/

this list puts fruit into groups based on how much carb they have in them

    Again, have a look here:

    http://www.carb-counter.org/

Carbs are listed on the product - generally for a low carb regime the usual advice is to aim for food with 5grams of carbs per 100grams or under.

Good luck in your weight loss attempts.

    Morning folks

Already had 2 cold sausages with coleslaw - yes, weird combination for breakfast - with a decaf coffee and supplements.

Will take a protein shake with me for lunch.

Am away tomorrow until Wednesday evening but have sussed out the options for the hotel now so am happy. The room service menue is better for low carbs than the restuarant one.

Hope everyone is enjoying their LC life and doing well.
