    Hi Everyone,

I have just returned from a weeks holiday and after seeing the photos I am shocked at how much weight I have gained over the last couple of years.

I want to try the low carbs diet and wonder if anyone have any hints and tips, meal plans what I need to be doing etc.

Since Tuesday I have eaten Yogurt for breakfast and Salad with Chicken or Tuna for Lunch and Dinner, but this will start to get a bit boring.

What do you use to substiture Potatoes, Rice, Pasta Bread.

    Is Wheetabix for breakfast allowed.

Thanks for any advice you can give me.

Like someone else posted I want to be able to have a relaxed Sat ie go for Indian Thai meal and enjoy few glasses of vino if you know what I mean :)

    Icing diet? That sounds fun!
Yes first week I got headaches and taste in mouth, couldn't drink enough water. 2nd week same, but less headaches, less taste but still thirsty. Also been very tired and lethargic.
I got it from a (girl) friend who had done it and lost 14lb in first week and thought I could do with a bit of that. Also I'm not sure if I can maintain a "strict" diet longer term. 2 weeks is about my attention span.
Some good things about this diet - I have tried some new foods, not missed alcohol, no IBS (in fact I've hardly pooed at all). and some of the food habits I can continue and follow on afterwards. Certainly grapefruits, salads. I also hadnt eaten fish for over 20 years as I don't like the taste it makes me sick, I have eaten the fish on the diet and whilst not sick it was v v v v hard work and at least now I can confirm that I don't like fish - fact!

Don't get too excited - lcing = an abbreviation (on here anyway;)) for low carbing, looks a lot more interesting then it is I'm afraid:D
Thank you for this site Martin

Had h/m museli today.. with some 'Onken' yoghurt.. yummee. I can see why it's popular! I even liked the vanilla one!

Eek, better go make kids' sanis.

I was going to ask a question about kids actually, hubby and I are low-carbing but obviously I don't want to have the kids do it too. I have a 16 month old toddler and a 10 year old Step Son. It is only really an issue for me at weekends because the baby has his meals at the childminders during the week.

Making sandwiches is a killer temptation for me...all that lovely soft bread...not caved so far but....

Anyway - any ideas for meals that will suit us all? Or put as little tempation in the way as possible - the baby had a potato waffle whacked in the toaster with his carbless Sunday roast last week :o

Haven't been around for a while. Looking to get back on the wagon. Can anyone help me with a nice salad dressing. Looking to do something very simple with olive oil but as I don't like vinegar thinking about putting some herbs in it. If you have some simple dressing please let me know.

    PS it wasn't me either

Why don't you do something for the baby that you don't like. I am not very fond of rice so could easily make this for someone and not feel left out. When my children were small I used to make a lot of soup for them and chicken rice was one that they loved as it goes thick.

Someone recently gave me a recipe for dressing which was 3 parts olive oil, 2 parts lemon juice and a variety of whichever finely chopped mixed herbs takes your fancy.

id be surpised if RM commando's ate low carb as there some of the few people that are active enough to justify a high carb diet

Definitely NOT low carb for commandos! My hubby is an ex commando and when they are training they are on about 6000 calories a day and it is not low carb.

Afternoon folks - had a great week LC-wise so feeling on top of the world.

For a variety of reasons didn't get to eat breakfast until 11.00a.m. - yes, I know it's not good but it doesn't often happen so I can glide over it. Then had some lovely sausages (Duchy ones on 1.3g per 100g) which I had cooked yesterday and some cheese.

Now just had some home-made pea and mint soup with some smoked pork sausage in it - oh... too much processed meat  don't usually eat any so perhaps my body will forgive me?

Tonight is Friday night so am out with friends, maybe a small amount of white wine involved though the friend I am visiting is also on LC so we can keep each other on the straight and narrow - just as long as it doesn't become benddy and wide!

Hope everyone is doing fine, and if you're not then I hope that you are OK too.

Hi everyone  Thank you all for your kind words - I feel quite embarassed now, I didn't post seeking sympathy/support, but it is good to know that the support is here. With regards to the poster who sent the original PM, as far as I am concerned it is all water under the bridge and a line has been drawn. I would prefer not to rake things up by naming, although the name used was not a regular name (or one that I recognised anyway).

Been really busy with work the past couple of days, tried to keep up with MSE on my phone, but connection on that sooooooo slow! Will be back with some meal ideas/suggestions/recipes for MFD this weekend, but in the meantime MFD, I don't know if you have any of the BBC Good Food 101 cookbooks? I love these and base a lot of my meals on these - each recipe has a full break down fat/calories/carbs wise which is really helpful. Keep an eye out on Amazon, as they can sometime been bought new for £2 (RRP £4.99) or check out your local library (sometimes I only like a couple of recipes in one of the books so I just scan the relevant pages and keep the scan on the computer :)
