ok update on operation protibix for breakfast (oatibix made with a protein shake)

its as cheap as chips, its a slow release carb and by blending the protein shake into the bix it too becomes slow release (protein shakes are designed to be very fast release) so is great before a resistance training session and its not setting off my IBS :D

i profiled my glucose levels yesterday, i had a high carb day just to try and push my insulin levels (i used to be insulin resistant and pass out after a high refined carb meal)

I am avg 173g of carbs a day normally (50% of recommend amount) 34% carb 35% protein 31% fat (over the last 2 weeks) so still a highly reduced carb diet

I know I drain my glycogen store every cardio session as i get a very strong smell of acetone (ketosis)

    9.59 : 5.2 - 14hr over night fast, 1 hour hard cardio
    10.00 : 62.1g carb - protibix
    11.08 : 5.3
    12.07 : 5.8
    13.10 : 4.2
    13.30 : 51.9g carb
    14.33 : 5.7
    15.34 : 4.6
    16.36 : 4.2
    17.44 : 4.1
    18.36 : 4.8
  • Hello all,

As predicted I completely fell off the wagon on Saturday night with breaded veal and roast potatoes followed by summer fruits cheesecake. Added to the half bottle of red wine and [STRIKE]several[/STRIKE] a few Gin and Tonics I think I definitely broke my diet!!

Still, life is for living and I got back on it first thing Sunday morning. I haven't put anything on but I also haven't lost anything since Thursday now *shrugs*

Will keep plodding on and see how I go. Hubby's family were very impressed with the pair of us (10lb 2 oz lost for me and 8lb ish for hubby) so they all want to Dukan with us now!!

I am finding the diet fine but I wish the weight would start shifting again - all my loss was in the first 7 or 8 days, I have been pretty static since then.

Well done for getting back on the wagon MFD, but you can't be surprised the weight not shifting when you ate that lot! :) Good luck for the rest of the week.
  • LOL Sarah - my weight difference between yesterday and today is 1lb 9oz :T:T in the right direction!!

I knew as soon as I moaned about it something would happen! Always the way.

FWIW the Dukan diet that I am doing is different to most low carb (it is zero carb and at the moment zero veg for me too) so it doesn't take days to kick in like others can do. The long term life plan is to eat and drink as per normal and have 1 pure protein day a week which is sufficient to maintain weight apparently.

That is where I aim to be in a couple of months time :D

Morning - I am still around. Had a hectic last week and had to decamp to a friends house as the builders made a right mess and took longer than they planned for,

Have been having the whey protein powder blended with berries in the morning and enjoying it. Can envisage taking this to work for lunch during the colder days when bacon and eggs will come back into 'fashion' for breakfast.

Lunch today will be bolognaise sauce (meat and tomato with chillies for a kick) with cabbage and cauliflower. Evening meal will probably be home made soup with sliced smoked sausage in it.

Wine cellar is now empty (been decluttering :o) and so the evening downfall is also gone! :p

Hope everyone is doing well still. :T
  • Hello everyone

I've only really posted here a couple of times before, as I would define my eating as "lower carb" and generally just lurk for ideas to help with that. I have basically stuck to the same regime since January - weetabix/porridge/bran flakes for breakfast, salad/sometimes a sandwich (with homemade high fibre bread) for lunch, and a main meal in the evenings which 99.9% of the time does not include bread/pasta/rice/potatoes/couscous/other carby stuff I can't remember. The 0.1% is where the occasional treat has been allowed.

The last time I posted here I got an lovely PM from a forumite here, who told me because I wasn't doing absolute full on low carb I should not be posting on this thread and that I should leave it to the "genuine low carbers". Don't worry love, your identity is safe with me, but while you've been falling off the wagon on a regular basis, I have dropped two dress sizes and the weight is continuing to fall off steadily ;) My point being it is about what works for you - what works for one may not work for another.

What works for me is not thinking of any food as evil (this probably stems from having eating issues in my early teens) It's just that some foods are preferable to others :D I also hate the word diet, in my opinion it should be a lifestyle/eating habit change, not the D word! I have not fallen off the wagon because the occasional treat has been factored in - e.g. a birthday meal, wedding (not mine :D), Valentine's Day, and I make sure that I don't overdulge in the treat, and that it is straight back to the normal way of doing things the next day.

I have to say though, thanks to this thread I have bought and eaten more cauliflower in the last 7 months than in the last 7 years I think :D:D:D Still resisting eating it in anything but it's normal form of florets, and I don't think of it as a carb replacement, more an extra portion of veg. I do wonder if my local Morrisons wonders what I do with all the frozen cauliflower I buy :rotfl:

    Back to lurking again ;)

that surprises me as i am lower carbing not low carb (33% of intake) and been posting my exploits, including my low glucose results and being able to switch in and out of ketosis daily. and i have had nothing but support and positive responses here.

eating a reduced amount of low GI carbs and avoidance of processed carbs has lead to consistent weight loss over the last 6 months and near perfect blood results, and i can sustain this intake consistently, sub 20% carb is just to hard for me to keep up ...
  • It surprised me too Eric! Which is why I didn't really continue posting - the comment did upset me a bit, but I bounced back...must be all that cauliflower :D

  • Hi Buffy,

The forums can be snobby places at times, glad you didn't let one rogue poster put you off your track and I am spurred on by your comments.

I am a firm believer in having a treat and whilst my diet is fairly strict at the moment (only 2 weeks in!) I am sticking to it other than my Saturday evening of fun :D If I can't factor in the odd meal out and a few drinks with family and friends it won't matter how slim I am because I will be a miserable old bag. I would rather be plumpish and happy.

Would love for you to share some of your fave recipes because I am a little devoid of imagination at the moment.

    MFD x

Oh - and if this thread is for the 'genuine low carbers' then they certainly aren't very chatty so maybe you and I should start of a 'low carb but realistic' thread ;)
