What are the 'best carbs' to eat if I have to eat any?
I am going out for an italian meal on Saturday and whilst I will steer away from carbs if I can what will be the easiest thing for me to eat?
I will be on a protein and veg day anyway so I can eat meat and salad but if it comes to a pizza / pasta / potato choice is any one better than the others?
I want to be as 'normal' as possible - I don't really want to sit and advertise the fact that I am on a diet.
depends what sort of italian restaurant it is. if it is more authentic it will probably have fish choices as well as vegetable side dishes / salad. you could maybe go for a tricolor salad starter and a fish course. Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0 -
you guys really are inspiration
Im really struggling on LC so had a break and am now back on the band wagon. since the 3rd and ive gained weight
Im in keytosis. Am eating things such as pork cauliflower and broc for tea with a small amount of beef oxo as a gravy
Now I do like my drinks and allow myself 2 cuppas with sweetners a day and also a few tins of diet vimto and love sugar free jelly. As my breath stinks I also chew sugar free gum could this be cauing me to stall. Im aiming for a stone of by Aug 20th as I need a dress to fit me but at this rate I have no chance
Should I be thinking more about the calories that I eat do you think?
I guess I eat about 30g of carbs a dayMad Mum to 3 wonderful children, 2 foster kittens and 2 big fat cats that never made it to a new home!

If you had to choose between pasta, risotto, pizza or potato? Potato without a doubt. It's an unrefined carb and therefore much better for you. Refined carbs are evil! Risotto would be teh next-best choice though brown rice is better than white, but you won't get brown risotto rice. Like ninky says, you should have the choice of smoething non carby. Even at Ask or Pizza express yuo can choose a nice chicken caesar salad or tuna nicoise (without potatoes!)0

Hi:) Dont think about calories just carry on with what your doing, I would try for between 20-25g of carbs a day, having said that I stalled on less than 20 but then I dont have a lot to loose, well hardley any actually but, and I really hate to say this:(, excercise has proved to be the thing to put me back on track, I didnt do it on purpose but my beloved dog desperatly needed to loose weight so I have been taking him on long walks everyday and guess what its dropping off me again (and my dog:T) now as you can probably tell I'm no excersise fan but this could be the key for you too:)
Sarah, I would choose spuds too as long as I can drag myslef past the bread and cakes;)Thank you for this site MartinThe time for change has comeGood luck for the future0 -
Thanks guys. Will bear in mind the refined carbs when I am choosing. And I love fish so that could be an option.
I am really curious to 'see what happens' I have not had any carbs at all for 9 days now and I am not craving them at all despite an extremely stressful day yesterday.

Don't have carbs. That's your answer. What would be the point, after only nine days? It's not like any other diet - once you knock yourself out of ketosis, which you will do if you eat potatoes/pasta etc, it'll take three days or so to get back in. In which time you won't lose weight, adn you might gain, which will depress you , and then you might head for the biscuit barrel. Low carb is a really easy regime to follow when you're eating out, that's one of the joys of it!0

I'm now realising this is true since having a sunday dinner cooked for me3.5 kilos lost monday to sunday, not a thing since!
So I've upped the exercise to compensate, and I'll try and keep that going as long as I can as well as no carbing. I definitely feel better for this, which is enough incentive in itself.0 -
I am doing Dukan which is not so easy to follow when eating out - no fats, limited veg, no dairy.
Will bear that in mind though, thanks.
No mention of ketosis in Dukan *shrugs*please listen to MFD - she is a wise womanProud Mummy to the gorgeous Benjamin John born 14 March 2009, 8lbs 14ozA new little seedling on the way, due 30 September 20120 -

this is the thing that interests me as i go in and out of ketosis every day
maybe im just odd0 -
just to raise the point about not worrying about the fat and just the carbs
Tesco do some lovely sausages 3g of carbs for 2, Id happily eat 4 for breakie with 2 scrambled eggs but that little lot comes in at 950 kcals which seams such a lot
Now when I really did enjoy my food and not worry about the kcals I think I could have easily eaten 3ooo a day with 3-4 meals
Would it help if I put up what I ate in a day. Im sorry to be such a pain. I only have a stone to 1.5 stone at the most but that really would mean such a lot to me
I must admit I dont do a lot of exerciseMad Mum to 3 wonderful children, 2 foster kittens and 2 big fat cats that never made it to a new home!
