my lower carbing experiment continues, not sure what it all means thou :)

I avg about 140g of carbs (31% of diet) a day however I appear to go into ketosis every time I exercise (very strong smell of ammonia) which baffles me, although Its often 12-14 hours since i ate my last carbs when i exercise, I am also huge, my RMR is 3700cals and im 6' 2".

any way was bored so i did a series of blood glucose tests over yesterday, and the results surprised me being almost flat. Last year before my weight loss and diet change my glucose levels where often 10.0+ 2 hours after eating.

    5.1 mmol - after 14hr fast

4.7 - after 14 hr fast and 150 min exercise (no food), strong ammonia smell

4.9 - 2 hrs after eating lunch (eaten immediately after exercise)

5.5 - 2 hrs after eating dinner (my one higher carb meal, 97g (wedges :) )

I am bowing out disgracefully from low carbing! It makes me feel sick and weak, i had 2 hour nap today as i felt like poo:o I snap at my little girl and i think i need to give in.
Plus, i'm a lot heavier now than i was when i started as i have yo yo'd in and out of low carb. Started low carbing at 8st 10, now i'm over 10st

I will be following the Paul Mckenna program as that worked for me last time.

I want to wish all the lcers good luck:A

Well I've just had rainbow fish 'paella' (of sorts, lol) and it was very filling. :D

The co-op were selling off reduced price fish trays that were meant for making fish pie with, there was a little salmon, haddock and smoked haddock together on the tray. I cooked it, added it to grated cauli, spoonful of cream mixed in and a sprinkling of grated cheese on top and it was delish. I feel so self rightous. :rotfl:

Sorry this hasn't been working for you guns...it didn't work for my OH either, he always felt ill when he tried low carbing. Clearly one thing does not suit all. Hope you get results with P. M.

im sure its partly or mostly to do with why i have no cravings, a controlled and pretty steady insulin level (along with avoiding foods that activate hormone release from the pleasure centre of the brain)

i was defiantly at least insulin resistant before i started (not uncommon for whales), certain foods (frijj milkshakes being one lol) would put me in an uncontrollable sleep, i would literally pass out for an hour and feel crap afterwards. I have been hypoglycaemic since i was a kid, i dont need to use insulin but keep an eye on my sugar levels especially when the shakes start. However since doing lower carbing i have had 2 maybe 3 attacks in 5 months rather than 2 or 3 a week :)

you actually measure the glucose levels in your blood (which is dependant on your insulin levels), you can get kits from most pharmacies, boots, websites etc. You need some blood to do the test . There really designed for diabetics, however I have one as I have suffered from hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar, you get very cold, dizzy and start to shake a lot) since I was a kid so I keep an eye on my levels because of this, but very infrequently compared to a diabetic

normal ranges are 4.0 - 8.0, however everyone has a slightly different "base level". When I have an attack I go down to 3.0 :(

    I have one of these

For most people if you are interested I would suggest going to see a doc and ask for a 12 hr fasting glucose test and cholesterols whilst your there.

Eric, your link to netdoctor is giving old information as the latest NICE 2010 guidlines for type 2 diabetics is:

    Fasting (waking) between 4 - 7 mmol/l. 2 hrs after meals, no more than 8.5 mmol/l.

For non-diabetics the range is normally quoted as 4-6 even after eating.
