    :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Some days thats just how it feels - but I have just been reading that I may be drinking too much and should try to stick to mx of 3

I don't know what I am doing wrong but man, it is getting me down.

the whole 8 glasses / 2 ltrs of water a day is a bit of a urban legend tbh

the whole thing came about from army research circa WWII where they where working out what a solider needs a day but the 2 ltrs INCLUDED the liquid you get from your food (which if you eat lots of fruit and veg and whole foods will be a lot)

some how the 2 ltrs got jumped upon out of context as the holey grail for how much you should drink.

how much you should drink depends on many factors, how physically big you are, how hot it is, what you eat and how much you sweat.

whilst is important to drink to keep hydrated and some extra daily fluid helps to flush the kidneys clean, drinking liquid on its own has been proven not to suppress appetite since the liquid is drained from the stomach very fast and the stomach is not stretched long enough to release the "full" hormone"

interestingly if you blend food into a liquid (soup) it takes as long or longer to process it in the stomach as a normal meal, its a handy trick

so you do not need to force feed yourself ltrs of liquid every day

All true Eric. The misreading was done by a beauty journalist years ago and has been perpetuated ever since (as a journalist myself I regularly challenge this myth when it comes up in copy I'm editing!). However, on low carb your liver is working extra hard to process the extra fat you are eating, so you really do need to drink more than you perhaps would on other diets. The last thing it needs is to be dehydrated while it's working so hard.

alias glad your back, I too must knuckle down and get a grip with icing again-

slipped up slightly at lunchtime as I picked up DD1 from her gcse exam we stopped and had a pork sandwich ( i did remove half the bread though - but the other half was dipped and had stuffing stuck to it - I couldnt throw that away :o)

thanks to daisy i have some idea how to improve my gym sessions to make them more fat burnery (sure that must be a real word)

also picked up some atkins bars from boots , hideously expensive but I dont eat them regularly

yep, your tongue / mouth is a pretty good guide to dehydration

I do drink more water when following a low carb diet(properly), and it is because I feel more thirsty with a dry mouth/tongue. I guess our bodies do know when we need more water.

Argh, i'm really struggling! Does anyone else find this WOE makes them feel nauseous? Do i need to just keep going throught the feeling?

I know you feel a bit flu like for the first week due to sugar detox, but i get to the point where i struggle to eat low carb because i feel sick. Hope that makes sense. I gave in and ate dry toast to try and ease the sicky feeling and it worked:o So need to start again, very interested in the shakes as i struggle to eat breakfast so think they may be a good start to the day.

Sounds like you are having a hard time Alias, hope you're ok hun:A

Ah, you've got the 'bleurghs' guns and banjos. I always find I get them about two weeks in when they novelty has worn off. But NO to toast! No no no! You'll knock yourself out of ketosis, set off sugar cravings and make a rod for your back. You've just got to work through it. I bet you were tired of 'slimy' food and wanted something crisp and dry, right? Just another form of craving. I find nuts are quite good for this, or parmesan crisps. Or celery with peanut butter on it. It is a horrid feeling, but it does pass.

oh great I am 3 days in (and must say not doing to badly considering I was such a carb-a-holic) and have been feeling great, not looking forward to the sicky feeling now though:(
