Have heard on the radio this morning that having bacon every morning has been found to increase your risk of heart disease....
Can anyone advise? I only have bacon and egg 3 times a week but I do love it so. they also said it can lead to diabetes but I never ate bacon before I was diagnosed with diabetes as I was low fat, high carbing with the rest of the population in the mistaken belief I was eating healthily.
Since lcing I have dropped my HBa1c from 7 in July to 6.2 this year, so although I haven't lost a lot of weight I think this woe is working for me.0 -

its going to be down to the cholesterol in the fat, the salt in it or the fact that they make meat suck up water by bathing it in sodium nitrate
its near impossible to find bacon now that's not blasted full of water ....
some more interesting research

Oo, this thread has slowed down!
I need support today - not having funI'm off to the South of France next week with my gorgeously slim sister, so am making a last-ditch effort to at least look normal next to her in bikinis. Hmm.
So this morning I rode my bicycle into work (12.4 miles) before breakfast, and have eaten only high-protein foods all day... so far:
- Protein shake
- Handful of raspberries
- 4 veggie sausages and a pot of lentils
- Total yoghurt
- Protein bar (eating it at the moment)
^ as you can tell, I'm hungry.
... but I'm all dizzy and sleepyWhich I know is part of the process but I don't like it! I've quite clearly used up much more fuel than I've got readily available and every urge in my body is to open a bottle of lucozade...

Don't give in badger lady! Is this your first day?
I'm interested to know what plan you're following. On my low carb plan veggie sausages and lentils are a no no as they are too high in carbs. What protein bar are you having?
Make sure youhave lots of low carb veggies for dinner to keep you regular, otehrwise it might seem like you're not losing when it's just an, ahem, backlog...0 -
Thanks Sarah
Actually I'm an old hand at this game... My history is:
1. My own made-up low calorie diet of "smoothies"
2. General low-carbing (eating blocks of tofu and salad all day)
3. Rose Elliot's vegetarian version of Atkins (which was rubbish)
4. Mum's low-carb diet (allows all fruit except banana)
5. "Body for Life" but with no carbs after midday
The Body for Life is a diet that my personal trainer put me on when I decided to really focus on getting fit. It changes the portions to 50% protein, 25% carb and 25% fresh veg... but that was still too much carb for me so I cut down.
I stopped seeing the personal trainer a few weeks ago, when I embarked on a very long bicycle ride for charity (there were lots of carbs necessary consumed for that - wouldn't have been able to make it without), so have been in "relax" mode ever since.
Hence suddenly restarting today! I've got back into my pole-dancing, intend to cycle in most mornings (not keen on rain though) and go to a Boot Camp two mornings a week. I know that this is a lot more exercise than most do whilst low-carbing, but combining the two will guarantee some speedy weightloss...Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -
Oo, and to answer your question (sorry) - I'm quite careful about which sausages to choose, and these ain't too bad. Lentils are a carb food of course but the protein levels balance out - at the end of the day they're better than pasta or bread.
The protein bar is ProMax, which has 50g protein and a measly 5.5g carbs. I try not to have them too frequently but the bike ride this morning has made me so hungry... it tricks my body into thinking it's had something high-fuel.Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -
Ah well, good luck with it then. I've always exercised quite well on low carb, but fine it does make me picky towards theend of the afternoon. Need a good supply of nibbles.0

Fair do's
I struggled last time I went "induction" too - was rolling in hungry agony, failing to sleep, whilst stuffing my face with curried eggs and smoked tofu. I ate twelve eggs in one day (on top of everything else) but my body was still convinced it was starving - horrible.
Just worked out - I'm now burning an extra 1400 calories a day!Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -
