Ketosis is when the body burns fat rather than glucose/sugar. To get it to do that you deprive the body of carbs so it switches fuels. It's not remotely dangerous but some people get it mixed up with ketacidosis, which is.

Wow jo, nice view. Better than the view from my office window anyway.

Well, I've been to my Alizonne appointment adn they've told me it will take 10 weeks to get to my goal (10st 1, down from 12st 10, which I am today). To say I'm excited is an understatement. I've got an appt tomorrow evening to have my first 'fat hoovering' treatment and then I'lls tart hte diet on Friday. As far as I can see it's packets of mix that you make up with water into things like omlettes and pizza and hot chocolate (I'm not convinced that they're going to be very nice to be honest) along with veg and salad from a list. Can't imagine that I could really be that slim by 10 weeks' time, but if you stick to their regime they guarantee it. Eek! They reckon the meals are made to balance your blood sugar so you don't get cravings. We'll see about that....

As far as I'm aware that doesn't happen. I hate to give medical advice in case I'm wrong but the science is that your body uses fat for fuel, not muscle. A quick squizz on the web seems to confirm this.

Alias there is no excuse not to go walking when you have views like that, keep it up woman :D

Some lovely walks here but a.. is boring on ones own and b.. i have to drive there so defeats the object

Had my glucose tolerance test results today and am relieved that i'm not diabetic, but have some insulin resistance (which i already knew) so am gearing myself up to get back to a lower carb woe :)

    I really wish i had a walking partner :(

I needed to drive there too. :D Was a bit boring by myself at one point but was gasping like a stuck goldfish due to being so unfit, so was also glad there was no-one to see. :rotfl:

Good news about not being diabetic. :T

So I see the advice is get on a low carb diet but apart from meat and eggs is there anything else you can actually eat? I mean how can you have a meal without rice pasta or potatoes? Is it just a case of having your normal meat with lots of veg instead?

I'd be grateful for any advice.

Grated cauli is your friend. :D It can take the place of rice or potatoes. Wonderful stuff and it cooks in minutes if you grate it raw and saute it in some butter.

It's all to do with a head change. Stop thinking a meal isn't a meal unless it has potatoes or rice etc, as soon as you get your head round that bit, the rest follows. :D

Also depends on whether you want to cook or not. If you do then there's loads of extra stuff you can do and if not, then learn to love chicken.....or fish.:rotfl:

First post on page 1 has loads of recipes, have a squizz and see if those are the kind of things you can see yourself eating.

Also, the flavour of meals doesn't come from rice, or potatoes or pasta. It's the meat, the sauces, the veg, all of which you can have. Carbs just add bulk. To you and the meal!
  • Oooh, lovely views alias *sigh*
Here's a local view of mine *sighs again*
