Help help help!
I've just been advised to try a low carb diet (for PCOS) but i'm veggie. Are there any tips you guys have or filling non meat recipes you can point me to coz i've always been reliant on pasta rice and pulses?! I'm a complete novice at this and so far i've been surviving on salad and veggies and feeling hungry all the time! I crave carbs!"I am not a vegetarian because I love animals; I am a vegetarian because I hate plants." A. Whitney Brown0 -
Hey Marrowgirl, half of us on here must be veggies by now!
The trick for us is just getting enough protein - it's virtually impossible to overdo protein if you don't eat meat, so just fill up on everything you can get. The most popular are:
- Eggs (probably the best source, lost of B12 etc in these too)
- Tofu (virtually carb free and very versatile)
- Quorn (check the label for carb content as it varies depending on the product)
- Seitan (if you can get it)
- Cheese (don't overdo these, they're very calorie-heavy)
- Nuts (choose brazils, pecans and whole almonds)
- Olives
One of these items should be the main bulk of your meals - if you're just having salad and veggies, you won't be getting enough protein to feel full. Also, if you're exercising, a good supply of protein will help you to build muscle, which increases your metabolism and helps you lose weight faster.
Hope that helps!Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -

Calm down, calm down...:rotfl:
Badger is veggie (and her mum ) and they have been very successful so maybe she will post some ideas for you.
Mercy's 'fudge' is fab but thats if you eat eggs,
To get you started, this link has nice recipes, the pizza could be veggie.

That went out the window when they had vegetable crisps, but i only ate a couple. Sat thinking thats it i wont eat anything else except my steak, burger and lamb chop. My daughter who also follows atkins decided we should maybe splurge a little so her fella went to shop and got us vodka and diet red bull..all good so far until my sister arrives with 2 bottles of sambuca and me and my daughter just couldnt resist getting drunk with the others...it would have been rude not to partake
Well we soon finished the sambuca so then followed a walk to the co-op and we came back with 2 bottles of tequila. Needless to say we got totally wrecked. Kev was driving so he just watched us get hammered. BUT.....................i still lost 0.7kgs so all was not lost. :T
Hmm, lucky you.. I love sambuca, and wouldn't have been able to resist either.
And it would have been very rude
I never use kg, it doesn't sound as much as lbs :rotfl:0 -
And weighing myself this morning I think I inherited the 0.7kg ... my downfall was near the end of the night when they brought cheesecake out
Back on the straight and narrow today - no more weighing until Friday now ... time to get the chicken or Pepperami out I think0 -
Tis a mysterious old thing this diet, although i feel thinner and haven't lost more weight, my fave old skirt i wear around the house is falling down, its only my 'grippy' knickers (shorts with spots that are 'grippy'?? ) keeping it up:rotfl: will have to recycle it.
Looking really slim in my trousers if i say so myself, so am looking forward to going out and not being the 'bloated' old me.
I am definately slimmer, my fat must be redistributing itself, better check my ankles incase i need to wear wellies tonight0 -
Mazzers, do you think you might have been replacing it with muscle? That's the theory I'm working on as to why I'm getting slimmer without losing weight!Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0

Hello everyone,
Sorry I haven't been keeping up. I was relying on getting e-mail prompts but apparently that was only on the old thread and I haven't subscribed to this one. It was explained to me how to rectify that but I can't now remember what i was supposed to do and everyone knows what a whizz I am with 'puters! So, any pointers, please?Vegetarian. Oooh! I've just read previous page. Fell i ought to explain myself.
Saturday has always been 'pizza night' ever since I can remember. I used to eat 1/2 a pizza with chips and garlic bread. Now I have 1/4 pizza with salad ( and pinch a few chips off 'is nib's plate coz they have no calorific value!) I also treat myself to a glass or two of red wine coz I'm worth it! A small amount like that doesn't seem to make much difference. Hey Ho!Vegetarian. Have cut out all high carb food. Not following any particular plan.Started 20/1/2009. Weight lost so far 29lbs.
