Funnily enough alias, that happened to me a couple of weeks ago, i ate carbs and actually had some energy to get painting and sorting/shifting done.
Not to the extremes you seem to go though when diy-ing.
Fabulous day, but i was up at 4.30 and couldnt get back to sleep so i have to have a few hours and will miss some of it.
Got more painting to do ( this house is like the severn bridge, start one end, and keep going full circle for ever) my son will be visiting at the end of the month and i've half painted it, need to get it sorted.0 -
Bad day yesterday. Had a big upset at work and it went to my carb-button big time. Dinner was two whiskys, 10 cadbury's heros and a large helping of vanilla ice cream. Followed by several hours of self-loathing.
Still feeling very angry with my work today and tempted to invent an illness to get away from all these morons.0 -
I must disagree with the calories in -and calories out reasoning....
If you are doing Atkins you can scoff double cream and cheese and meat with fat etc etc, I found it just melts away(the fat, weight) you can't tellme that lot isnt low calories???
If i didnt eat because I just wasnt hungry my weight just didnt shift.....
I know every body is different...but that is what worked for me..0 -
I agree with crafty gal - before I started low carbing I counted calories (its also more socially acceptable than carb counting!) and despite nearly halving my calorie intake I didn’t lose a pound in 4 weeks – I was still eating (and probably eating more as I was having mid-morning/afternoon snacks) but for some reason my body doesn’t like being low calorie.0

Yep. THe joy of low carbing is that there is none of that calorie counting nonsense. Have you been on a low carb diet SouthernScouser?0

To be fair though, if you ate huge amounts every day even of low carb stuff you would struggle to lose simply because there is a point where the cals in / cals out thing kicks in. For all Dr Atkins advocated the 'no need to count calories' thing, he also warned against using low carbing as a licence to still overeat, purely because you could take in too many calories and defeat the purpose.
It would be interesting to know the kind of ballpark figures people are eating in a day, in the way of calories.
Most of us on low carb diets find we are naturally not as hungry and we eat smaller potions as a result so maybe the calorie amounts aren't big even although the individual items like cream and butter etc might be a high calorie count. If that makes sense?Herman - MP for all!0 -
Yup, agree with alias, also, and this has been mentioned before, dont know if i totally agree with the slowing your metabolism thing by eating too little because what happened in the concentration camps pooh poohs this theory.
I think maybe the body hangs onto the fat for a while and burns lean muscle instead, but it can only do this for so long and then weight loss is in quite large amounts.
I noticed this when i first started dieting years ago, it was all or nothing for me then with food and i ate very little when dieting, didnt lose any weight for about 7-8 weeks, but then it would fall off in 5-7 lb chunks at a time.
I went very thin then quickly, not exactly healthy and i'm not recommending it, it's just an observation.0 -
Want to say thanks to southernscouser for her input, it didnt sound preachy at all.. all theories welcome
I know i wouldnt lose weight purely on a calorie counting basis now, i have in the past, but wouldn't now because of the insulin resistance i have acquired, and also because my first choice when counting calories would be bread, followed by rice and pasta.0 -

She's a he.
Hence the always knowing better!!!!
Sorry I disagree with others, I don't think it is helpful to come into our save haven and preach. I see the as the one bit of the world where I don't need to excuse or explain my eating habits. A support thread should be just that support.
Can you imagine going into the depression support and saying pull yourself together I think.....
Sorry if thats a bit of a rant but going against the diet tide is hard enough.0
