Thanks ever so much for your reply, i need as much help as I can get... the thorntons stuff I talked about is so tempting just because I am really badly craving sugar and I just thought sucking on a fruit drop or nibbling a bit of their toffee might help alot, I was just wondering if the polyols would affect the carb intake. I know what you mean about rumbling tummy etc. as I am also taking metformin which tends to make me rumble a bit
I read earlier on the thread people talked about a crispbread that was bought from H&B, they sound very tempting as it would cheer up my cheese no end!!
I am tending to have omelette for a late breakfast and then a chicken salad for tea or some such meat and veg dish.. it's not too bad at the mo anyway., I'm not missing bread yet. I did see a website called low carb megastore which has pasta substitute/bread and other bits and pieces.. http://www.lowcarbmegastore.com/zero-carb-foods have any of you tried their products? I am tempted by the bread and pasta and also the sweets lol.
Diamonds, to be honest you need to go cold turkey for at least two weeks. The point is that you/we in general are addicted to sugar. Think of it like a drug - the reason your body is telling you that you need just al ittle toffee, or a bit of chocolate, is that it's having withdrawal symptoms. No kidding, they can be mighty powerful and it's what kicks many a good day to the kerb come 4pm. You have to work through it, just like any addict.
I know from long and bitter (and windy!) experience that you just can't do this low carb thing and lose weight while eating frankenfood. It screws up your insides. Plus I know that the crispbreads are way too carby to be allowed on the diet I'm doing (IPD), which is nowhere near as draconian as Atkins, so you probably shoudl stay clear. You';ll hate me for writing all this, I know, but it's true. Try to get the right mindset from the start or you'll end up with problems very quickly.
BTW, I have PCOS too. Has got much better since I had my son.
Oh and also, I have had stuff from the low carb megastore. It's good but expensive. The pasta - if you do ever get some, note how much they suggest for a serving. It's no more than you could hold in the palm of one hand - incredibly disappionting!0 -

Just a general thought (meant in a helpful manner), If you like to have treats like you mention, would you not be better doing a calorie controlled diet that allows you a limited amount of those foods?
In my case a LC diet works, for two main reasons , it keeps me away from all the foods that are too much of a temptation , and secondly (and to me its the biggest reason) eating healthy natural low carb food controls appetite, which means I dont think about food much.
Perhaps if you go down the road of adding in the akins choc bars and lower carb bread products in a few months , once you have got used to the diet would be a more positive approach for you? By then you will be 2 stone slimmer and not thinking about bread and stuff!
all the best with it anyway.0 -
Dr Ding dong and Sarahs999, You're totally right.. I need to wean myself off sugar, I don't know what I was thinking. I had my lunch and took one of my metformin tabs, then about an hour ago I had 2 of the no sugar lemon drop sweeties that I bought and oh my god, my stomach is going crazy
you can hear it from another room I bet!! Best to totally steer clear then
I guess I will get used to it.. ! Actually, lastnight I wasn't as bad as I was on the Tuesday night.
I have just bought a bag of chillies from Sainsburys, some cream cheese and streaky bacon.. I will slice the chillies, scoop out the pips, fill with cream cheese, wrap with bacon and oven bake for about 20 mins,,, they are soooooo tasty and low carb so that's fine.
Sarahs999, thanks for the tip about the low carb megastore! I don't think I'll bother with the pasta, I'm not exactly craving pasta but did you try the bread? a cheese salad sandwich would be nice, or even a bacon butty!! :A0 -
Diamonds, i've got a link to a great recipe for lc bread but the sit is down for maintenance, remind me and i'll post it when its back up.
Here is a pic of the bread i made from the recipe, its very much like wholemeal, freezes well, but doesn't toast too well.
and a pizza i made with the dough as a base
Jaysus, you're a damn good cook, those look so professional. I could murder a pizza now after looking at that pic!!0 -

My son singing with his band, have a listen.0 -
Diamonds, forgot to say, i tried the pasta, called dreamfields, is just like regular pasta but i'm not convinced it's lc, sarahs right, its only a tiny amount and you have to make sure its cooked for the exact time ( i think its 12 mins) or its not so lc.
Also read that if you are craving something like ketchup, its the sugar in it you're actually craving so best get it out of your system altogether.0
