Anyway...serious question...can anyone remember yonks ago when Ted was talking about 5-HTP? I ordered some at the time but can't remember how many to take, I wondered if Ted had opinioned on that? (Is opinioned a word? If it's not, it should be :D)

I don't remember Ted talking about it, but have a look at this info on the H&B site - http://www.hollandandbarrett.com/pages/healthnotes.asp?org=nbty&ContentID=2793000

Basically it tells you what it is, what it does, how much to take, when not to take it (with anti-depressants for example), etc.

Actually, you all might find the "health notes" section useful - LOADS of info & tips (I find it really useful for my homework!).

    http://www.hollandandbarrett.com/pages/healthnotes.asp?linkpos=row1

Right, back to lurking again. (Diet carp, feel RUBBISH, but still maintaining / losing - the lightest I've been for 10 years, woo hoo! Hope to re-low-carb myself soon)

Thanks zero, those are quite useful links, I've saved them. I was only taking one capsule (100MG) but the link suggests 300MG so I'll see if I can get a higher dose capsule, having to swallow loads of tabs is not joyous. :D

Where is everyone today? Tis a bit quiet round here.

The last two nights I have been sleeping on the livingroom floor (with the cushions off the couch) as OH is seriously sleep deprived because of my snoring :o and is struggling at work. Problem is, I can't sleep on the living room floor iyswim, so when he gets up for work at 4am, that's when I go to bed. I have to get up for school so I'm knackered. I'm always hungrier when I'm tired so I'm expecting a loooong day. On the up side, yesterday was day 2, still no cheating. Oh happy days.

I've started a diary......so when something annoys or upsets me, I go and write about it to get it out of my system instead of marching to the kitchen for a KitKat/bag of crisps/packet of chocolate peanuts/all of the above...etc. Not sure if it'll help or not but I know a lot of my over eating is emotionally based so it's worth a go. *inserts shruggy shoulders smilie and glares hard at Martin!*

*waves to you all when you finally get here*

Have a good and strong willed day! :D

Think I may have 'bigged' my day up a bit!! :o
Part of it was taking my Dad to the diabetic clinic, pushing him around in his wheelchair whilst holding a wee sample (his!! _pale_) then watching while the nurse poked around at his mouldy feet :(
Today I get to take him to the audiology clinic, along with his wax-encrusted hearing aid - woo hoo!! :j
The highlight of my day will be going to Tesco!! *yeah, where's that sarcastic rolling eyes smilie when you need it?!* shrug2.gif:rotfl:

    Morning all :hello:

The snow has finally disappeared & been replaced with rain, rain & more rain!! Don't you just love this time of year?! Tis soooo miserable!!

    Menu for today:
    B - 2 egg cheese omelette
L - 2 low-carb crispbreads with butter & cheese, garlic sausage, BNS soup
D - chilli with green beans & cauli mash

Was supposed to be making fishpie for dinner (was really looking forward to it as well), but hubby working late & DD1 at after-school club so it just ain't gonna happen today. Suppose that's the good thing about putting leftovers in the freezer!! :rotfl:

    Happy low-carb days everyone

Just a quick post to say I took 3 of the 100MG 5-HTP capsules and I now feel really nauseous and I'm getting a migraine the flashing has just started. I think I'll just stick to the 100MG as I had no problems with that level.

  • I thought it was about time that I posted my results so far after starting a lo-carb diet last November. I think I followed a link from here to the site that exclaimed to be able to lose 20lbs in 28 days. As my trouser were very tight I thought it about time to do some active weight loss. I had been going to the gym 3 times a week for 30-40 mins of aerobic exercise and my weight has stayed constant. I presumed the muscle gain had equalled the fat loss, but it was frustrating to have no loss.

The lo-carb plan was generally keeping off white things - no potatoes, rice, flour or milk. Six days of protein, fruit and veg with day 7 being an eat anything you want to. This stops the body going into ketosis like in the Atkins diet.

Breakfast is always a smoothie - fresh 1/3 melon or blackberries or kiwi fruit or raspberries or sunflower and pumpkin seeds mixed with 6 teaspoons of yoghurt and some soya milk. Delicious. I bought a blender from Argos for about £6 and it does the job fine.

Mid morning is some low fat flavoured cream cheese and various oat cakes (it is lo-carb not no-carb you see)

I make 3 days of lunches in advance to take to work. Usually a chicken breast in curry (home made or sauce) or just with plenty of veg.
A couple of apples to graze on during the day. Maybe some nuts and dried fruit which really fills me up.

Evening is either egg and bacon, omlette (onion, tomato or cheese) or frozen fish and veg. Scrambled egg and spinach is tasty and quick.

I dont like cereal now - too salty and sweet so I have a bowl of porrage with prunes on my free day. I only like the premium chocolate now and I'll have a pizza, or pasta dish or anything else high in carbs. I drink G&T 3 or 4 nights a week, or some red wine. I find if I eat biscuits or crisps, it upsets my stomach with unpleasant results.

That's about it. I find it very easy to do and I am pleased not to buy the processed ready meals or bars that I use to. I am spending less on food also even though I am eating plenty.

In 3 months, I have lost 6Kg (nearly a stone), my trousers are loose and my ribs are almost visible. I reckon I have another 6Kg to be at my optimum weight.
It amazes me to know that I have lost, almost without trying, the same weight as my 2 young cats.

I hope this can be motivate someone to get to their desired weight.
  • And instead of caffeine fuelled tea and coffee, I now drink red bush without milk. And in the morning, I just drink a pint of water to re-hydrate myself. I dont do hot drinks first thing as I get too hot and sweaty after the shower.

    Hello!

mdta - sounds more low GI than low carb, glad it's working for you! I doubt you'd go into ketosis on that diet even if you did it 24/7. It's always good to ditch the high carbs like you have as it reduces water retention and is generally a much better way of eating. Hope you hit your target - you are well on the way! :j

It's funny how our tastes change when we give the high carbs a miss. I find so many things too sweet now and what with the recipe list on page 1, if I do feel like a bakewell tart or some choc buns the answer is there :rotfl:

Folk were talking about hot cross buns today - toasted  I used to be able to get through a whole 6 pack in 1 sitting slathered in marge  Glad to find I just didn't fancy it at all :D Even when they make toast in the office and I reach the top of the stairs and the scent is overwhelming, I just don't fancy it! (well, it's locked into how bread makes me feel - urgh)

    Yipee! :j

Onwards and downwards, as they say :rotfl:

    Heya!

B - 2x crispbreads with mex fudge and sausies with mayo
L - spicy cabbage and bacon type stoo. Much nicer now it's frozen and defrosted - as so many things are :rotfl: Glad I found it delicious and filling as there are 3 more to go at in freezer :)
D - Brie, ham, salad and maybe a sausage

Cooked the whole 12 sausies but haven't been snacking so all remaining will likely have to be eaten tomorrow. Got a cheap pork shoulder from asda so will cook that tomorrow eve for rest of week to sat/sun. Yay for lumps of meat! :j

Be happy low carbers! It's good for you!

Mercy (or anyone else who's made it) does the Mexican fudge taste strongly of chillies?

I'm browsing the recipes again as I can't remember half of what I used to eat and I came across the fudge one. Not sure if I fancy it or not, lol.
