I always think that if you have a mingin' house on New Year's Eve/New Year's Day, then it will be mingin' all year!! Is that just an Old Wive's Tale?? Hope so. :o:rotfl:

Car not fixed - the part being couriered up from down south has failed to arrive -probably cos of the snow chaos - so Vaxhall have arranged a replacement for me. MAY get up north today but if not then will head up first thing in the morning, weather permitting that is.

Only had breakfast (egg/bacon) and a couple of cups of coffee so far. Been doing some overdue marking which has taken ffffffffoooorreeeeevvvverrr  just not motivated or engaged with it.

Now need to get contacts in and shoes on so that when the car hire company come for me I'm ready.

Happy Hogmanay if I'm not here, but Happy Hogmanay if I am here too.

    Hello!

Have made a regular thing of the pate on crackers with scrambled egg - it's devine!

I am roasting a big lump of pork leg :) There's no fat layer so I wrapped it in streaky bacon :D It's on last 1/2 hour now and can't wait! Going to have slices with stuffing, apple sauce and cranberry and green beans.

Still in new fleecy dressing gown and fleecy pyjama bottoms. Very warm, and as I'm not leaving the house or having visitors - I don't care

It's blowing a gale out there, hope the pavements are clearer tomorrow as I have some shopping and posting to do.

    Happy Festives!

You don't have any control over what life throws at you.
You DO have control over how you react :)

Hubby & kids got back safely yesterday, thank goodness. The only worrying, and slow, bit was over the Pennines, apparently a few lorries had got stuck because of snow, tis a high road though.

So, tis New Year's Eve. Hope everyone has a good one. _party_

Having my Dad over for Lunch tomorrow, making roast beef with all the (extremely high-carb) trimmings. Bought quite a big joint of beef, so should do for a meal on Saturday as well.

I really can't wait to start lcing again, shame MIL gave hubby some Christmas & Cherry cake to bring back from Scotland  Christmas cake is one thing I just cannot/will not resist!!
Still looking at 2nd or 4th January to re-start, depends what's left in the cupboards/fridge/freezer on those days.

Anyway, have a good New Year everyone :santa2:

Glad to hear they're home safe sweet, i meant to post yesterday asking if they were back :o

I will never be able to eat my xmas cakes so they will have to be put away for an occcasional treat.

Rather overcast here, so it'll be rain rather than snow i think.

Having an icing day today so i dont bloat too much for tonight
Had pasta last night and my stomach looked like a balloon, that is so not normal, my boy ate his and his belly was still like a pancake, i am soooo jealous!

    Happy New Year All.
  • Morning all!
    Bonne Annee a tous!

I spent a lovely Christmas at MIL's but everything (and I mean everything!) had pastry around it! The meal when we got there was lasagne followed by chocolate log which I didn't actually eat because I had a headache, followed on consecutive days by quiche, pizza, sausage rolls, cheese straws, mince pies, Xmas pudding etc. I had gained a few pounds since October and actually weighed myself yesterday - up to 10 stone!:eek:

I started back on LC as soon as I got back (my fave meal, red peppers stuffed with feta, olives and pesto served with cauliflower cheese). Yesterday I made veggie burgers with more cauliflower cheese and this morning I was done to 9 stone 11! Something weird going on there.

And I have had mice (note the plural!). They were in the back kitchen (a sort of storage annexe to the actual kitchen). At one point I was in there and there were at least 5 of them running around and squeaking as well (note I was wearing boots). It was a bit bizarre because there are no windows in there and all four walls are 1 metre thick stone walls. But the joints are old mortar and eventually (after nearly a fortnight of feeding them poison day and night) I found the courage to move a few boxes and there was the hole. Now filled up and rendered but it was horrible during that fortnight.

Will be going to the 'do' in the village hall tonight. Have got a fab black dress with beads and sequins on it (twenties style) but not sure if it will be too much. Everyone round here is very laid back (not like in Provence where they are all snobby and wear make-up all the time).(Just the ladies mind!). They last had a 'do' 2 years ago. It started at 9.30, the main course was served just before midnight, the dessert at 1,30 and the coffee never arrived. I thought that dancing between each course would give me indigestion, but it actually seemed to help. The meal will be veggie for me so I shalln't query the carb content because I am just grateful it will be veggie.

I also have a trip coming up back to the UK so although I'll try to LC in between, I don't think I'll be able to really get to grips with it again until the 19th.

    Sorry for going on.
Hope everyone has a good time tonight.

  • Just had the scariest experience :(

I was driving back home & was almost there when a car coming the other way around a bend started zig-zagging towards me before spinning around & ending up hitting a tree backwards on the grass verge!! _pale_ Scared the life out of me!! _pale_ Couldn't believe that I was the only car that stopped to make sure the driver was ok, luckily a passer-by ran over to help as well. The driver was in shock but uninjured I think & was effing & blinding that he must have hit a patch of black ice. Don't actually believe that & think he was going too fast even though it's a 30mph limit, unfortunately a lot of drivers ignore the speed limit there. A poor girl lost her life in the exact same place about 5years ago when the driver (her boyfriend) lost control of the car he was driving because he was speeding :( Anyway, this driver seemed to be ok, he was lucky. I was shaking like a leaf when I got home, it could have been so much worse :(

Happy new year Gaye, nice to hear from you icon7.gif

I actually like mice, kept them as pets in the past
Dont like it going to the loo on my floor tho. Not seen it lately, hopefully it's gone.
I also get a problem with.... slugs!
Think they are coming in from outside ( Gawd knows where tho) into the cupboard under the stairs as there's always a silver trail from the cupboard door across my hall rug, when found, they are put into the compost bucket out the back garden for a nice scoff, so it's not the same one (have put one or two in the bin)
Will be getting my rendering done in the spring so maybe that'll sort it.

    Mice and slug curry.. hmmm

  • On a happier note, when I was typing that last post I got a text message off my Niece wishing me Happy New Year from Australia!! She's in Sydney, lucky thing :D I'm presuming it is New Year's Day there now, unless she's sent it early!! :o

Bonne wotsit to you Gaye!! Enjoy your 'do' tonight, your outfit sounds lovely :D
Was going to suggest a couple of 'mouse' recipes from this thread, but then remembered you are veggie!!:rotfl:
Hope Badger doing ok, haven't heard from her in ages.

mazzers, if you run out of storage space for your Christmas cakes, just let me know ... :D
But you can keep your mouse & slug curry!! _pale_
