  • One more quick question if i may :o
Has anyone lost a few stone on a low carb diet?
If so did it come off slowly or a little faster than say 1lb a week?

Thing is i've done ww before & i was losing 1lb a week sometimes less. I know its all good but i found it a little depressing. I've also done the cambridge diet before & i lost a lot of weight on that. I was on it a 2 mths ago but had to come off of it cos i fell pregnant.... but then i miscarried & i've kinda gone off the rails .... a lot.... ie: Eating the most about of junk & scoff my favourites like bread & chocolate.

I've gained weight rapidly & its really getting me down & i know that although i've gained a lot i need to nip it in the bud now before i get back to where i was before.

I have PCOS and an underactive thyroid so i do tend to gain weight rapidly if i do eat badly & also i lose weight rather slowly.

I'm not currently pregnant.... but is a low carb diet safe when you are pregnant?

Last year i worked in Mr T's bakery, fresh tiger bread, hot rolls, finest cookies, danish pastries hot from th'oven.. No wonder i couldn't lose weight.
The smell was enough to make you fat !!

Tiger bread. I think I make great bread but that's my favourite.

I've lost 3 and a half stone by low carbing, and it stays off too if i stay on lifetime maintenance. As soon as i go back to eating bread and that the weight starts to go back on slowly but steadily - because stuff tastes good but doesn't actually fill me up I have worked out. (I lost a big chunk of weight 5 years before that but it all ended going back on because i went back to my old diet).

My weight did come off fairly rapidly to start off with - 3 or 4 pounds a week but slowed down as i got lighter and closer to a bmi of 25. I stalled at 25 for almost 2 months i think. i took a month to 6 weeks off LCing after New year and put on half stone. As I was still a stone heavier than i wanted to be i started induction again and lost the all i had put on and a good chunk more fairly quickly (4lb, 3lb, 2lb, 2lb, 1lb I think). again it slowed down once i got closer to my goal weight.

I have to say that I never ever cheated when i was on induction and i think that makes all the difference as your bodies biochemistry changes when you have carbs so even one chea knocks you back a couple of days, so if you end up doing that once a week you end up losing and regaining the same 2/3lb all the time - much better to be strict all month and have a weekend off, withinin reason mind, than be strict all week and cheat every friday night :) (I don't know strict you are managing to be but i know how it impacts me). Also once the weight started to drop off it inspired me to get an excercise bike and to try to use it everyday - i think it kept the weight coming off at a nice rate. and i really tried to drink enough water, and made sure i took my chromium & calcium supplements.

This WOE is easy now - partly because my taste buds have changed and I can recognise my bodies needs (rather than wants) more easily. Also, and really importantly I never buy the stuff that i can't eat - i don't know how people manage to LC but cook carby stuff for their families - more power to them I say.

Keep going - don't be put off even if it does take longer than you would like - as long as the numbers are going down rather than up you're winning the battle, and that's all that matters in the end.

And thank you for reminding me how much I have lost - I always focus on what I'm unhappy about, like my wobbly belly and bingo wings, but if i think back to how i was before i'm blooming marvellous! Maybe we should do before and after pictures to remind of us our achievements, lol.

  • Does anyone know of any low carb treats that are similar to crisps. Am having a bad afternoon and don't want to eat too many nuts as they tend to upset my stomach. Had mackeral in spicy tomato sauce yesterday at lunchtime but tasted as if there was sugar in the sauce. Been wanting a treat since then, know it will pass but need to keep good as have too much weight to lose to allow cheats.
  • Always, there's a Parmesan Crisps 'recipe' on Mercy's recipe list, page 1 of this thread. Sounds dead quick & easy if you have any parmesan cheese to hand.
  • Please stop talking about bread you lot, my belly is rumbling here!! :p:o:rolleyes:

    Morning all

Bracing myself to set for work in a minute. It's VERY windy & wet out there this morning.

    Today I'm eating;

B Mushroom. spinach & cheese omelette
    L Tuna mayo salad
D Chicken cooked in the slow cooker with 1/2 a red onion, cabbage & green beans.

    Have a good day everyone.

Hi everyone. Stressie weekend and have had a few slip-ups (jam tart and and a pancake) but today I plan to have yoghurt, eggs with cheese and cheese/ham omelette. Went to H&B and bought some bran crispbreads, but haven't tried them yet, got a shock when I saw the price though, and also flaxseed/linseed oil and unprocessed coconut oil (hooray) so am going to have that today as well. Happy weight loss.

Let me know how that turned out Dobie, maybe i should dig out my slow cooker coz sometimes i just cant be bothered to cook so that would be ideal.
