Although I read the thread most days and have found recipes helpful I don't post too often. Will add more often to make sure thread carries on. To date have lost about one and half stone but have long way to go. Hoping that I can make it right down this time and stay there. Am at an age now where my health could suffer from being too overweight. Diabetes and poor joints are affecting some friends of my age who are also heavy. Having difficult time at work just now so not sleeping too well so thread helps keep me focused.

Dobie we had a sale in work for Think Pink, I managed to avoid successfully and people would not have believed that was possible. The way I find works for me is to act like an addict. One is too much and a thousand is not enough. I don't use any artificial sweetners and try to totally avoid anything that is too high to ever allow. After about a week you lose the cravings and if you accidentally eat anything sweet it tastes unpleasant.

Went to my local library and got South Beach Diet and found copy of Dr Charles Clark The New High Protein Diet in charity shop. It was The New High Protein Diet that I used last time and lost 3 stone but didn't stick to as colleague went on about my bad breath. Although some vary about the amount of carbs allowed the basis is the same principles and some of the recipes look OK.

Am going to make a pizza tonight with chopped cabbage base. Not sure what to cook it in. Do you think a casserole lid would do. What is the best tomato layer to use?

great quote and really good advice on the basic principals of lc :T :T

Exactly what i thought but too ashamed to come on here :o

I bought ten large punnets of cherry toms in Tesco, reduced to 10p each, so i made a huge pot of pasta sauce to freeze, unfortunately though i couldnt resist the spag bol i made with it
Was a lot of potch ( had to peel em all) but well worth it.

Sweet, i love those crispbreads too but they are so expensive for a small pack icon9.gif

As for the yogurt, tis only 2.8g carbs per 100g so not too bad, i love it with a handfull of frozen raspberries (defrosted, nice n juicy then) and choped brazils on top, i think i may have mentioned this though  20 times :rotfl:
  • Morning all :hello:

daisy, thanks for that veggie list, very comprehensive :D

Dobie, you are sounding very positive & I'm liking the sound of your dinner!! :D

Always, I think I'm at 'that age' too plus we have family history of high blood pressure, diabetes etc ... so the right time for me to be tackling my weight as well.
No idea about what to use for your pizza?? How come you're using chopped cabbage?? Have you seen a recipe?? I have a savoy cabbage waiting to be used up!! :D

mazzers, I think the crispbreads are worth every penny, I used to spend far more on chocolate, crisps etc!! :o Stocked up yesterday as twas the last day of offer so now have 7 packets to keep me going (in more ways than one!! ;)) :D

    Menu for today:
    B - 2 egg cheese & mushroom omelette
    L - 2 low-carb crispbreads with butter & cheese, garlic sausage
D - Chicken & veg curry with cauli mash

Had an Options hot choca mocha last night, yum yum, even nicer than the hazlenut!!
Will no doubt be having wine tonight.

    Sooooo glad it's Friday & I can have a sleep-in tomorrow!!
Have a good day all, tis lovely & sunny here
  • Morning ladies ( any gents here? Dont want to be rude)

Just having a 3 egg omelette with cheese and bacon and a little worcester sauce. Is scrummy and should keep me going hopefully.

Will make a salad in a minute to take to work, feeling very positive today:D

Hi all and thank you Daisy for the veg list - I will do a shopping list. I have been collecting lots of books on different diets/healthy eating but they often conflict so I have been trying to do the Dr D diet, but it says 'you may eat' dairy products: milk, yoghurt etc, in the first bit, so that's why I thought it was ok. Yesterday's menu: yoghurt with linseeds (I had already eaten it before I posted), 2 rashers of bacon with 2 eggs with cheese (I could eat this all the time but I know I must vary what I eat) and cheese omellete. I've stood on the scales this morning, but don't dare tell you what I weigh!

I was thinking the same thing, hope the thread aint dying off icon9.gif

Thing is tho, if i see that no-one has posted, i dont bother sometimes, so am guilty of neglect myself icon9.gif

I would be miserable if this thread died off but the quietness seems to have the opposite effect on me - I'm more inclined to post if I can actually get to the end of all the posts . When its really mad busy I see something I think I'll reply to, then wait till I get to the end in case I'm repeating and so never get a round tuit as I never get to the end!

Anyway I don't normally post what I eat as I'm not loosing, and am eating all sorts of things that I don't want to tempt others with, but I'll give you a snapshot of yesterday for a laugh. Please note I am hovering around 10st and could do with losing another 1/2 a stone and will not lose with what I'm eating but seem to be able to maintain even with the many artificial 'junk' foods and some carbs I consume:

Breakfast - two cups regular tea with milk (can't face food in the morning).

Lunch - M&S BLT on brown, 2/3 packet of S&V peanuts.

On the train home - cavalier no sugar Dark Moka bar (found in my pocket)

Dinner - mince chili mixture - with chorizo and chick peas and tomato based sauce (OH cooked it so can't tell you exactly what was in it) with a sprinkling of grated cheese. Small piece Venchi 75% chilli pepper chocolate (just to taste!) Big dollop of extra thick double cream with Sweet commute carb controlled Maple Oat Granola (my favourite)

plus several (really a lot) of redbush tea with milk throughout the day, a can of diet coke, a small bottle of fizzy water and a few glasses of caffeine free diet coke with dinner.

Oh dear that looks awful written down. Good job my body and the polyols seem to be OK!

This thread wont die it just stalls for a while whilst we're all misbehaving and then we all see the error of our ways when we get weighed and back we troop to lose what we've put on:o

I've had a good week and lost 3lbs but I did have a giant cinnamon sugar pretzel and gorgeous hot chocolate this morning whilst shopping so may be avoiding the scales till monday:D

  • sweetserendipity used the cabbage as a base for my fish pie last week and liked it. I bought a few to use during the week and my daughter has now said she doesn't like so am trying to use up. Also made leek and cabbage mix and was lovely. Chopped up and partially cooked both in microwave, added 2 dollops of creme fraiche and topped with cheese and cooked in oven for about 15 mins. Was really tasty. My mum used to do a similar dish when I was young. Put par boiled cauliflower, chopped cooked ham and scrambled egg in a large casserole and top with grated cheese. Cook without lid for about 40 mins and is similar to quiche. Does rise while cooking so make sure there is room or you will be cleaning oven. Don't know exact measurements as my mum didn't cook like that.
