So would I! I`m going to wait till I`ve lost my other 16lbs (!) and then I`m going to have a cholesterol test myself. Not before, you understand, cos if it`s Really High, I might not have the bottle to carry on . Is that daft?:o:o
Anyway, I`ll definitely let you all know the results, one way or another.:j:hello::j0 -
Sweet, well done on the bike ride:j
Badger, how about Katy Perry's Hot n cold?;)
Cholesterol.... I posted previously (quite a while ago:o ) that DH had a cholesterol of 7.3 just before Christmas. He started atkins on 1st of Feb and had it re-tested on 10th March and it was 4.7;) . I had mine done a couple of weeks ago (just out of curiosity as have been on atkins since Nov) and I was told it was normal. Receptionist wasn't allowed to give me the actual result, she said I would have to ring the nurse and discuss it with her:rolleyes: . I'll probably get round to it one day:oIf you think nobody cares whether you're alive or dead, try missing a couple of mortgage payments.
My way is Atkins0 -
newish, I do remember you telling us about the cholesterol now
, that's a really good result for OH. Now you get yourself on the phone to the nurse for your result - think a normal result is 4 or 5? Let us know, we are a nosy lot you know!!

Hope everyone doing ok today.Any news? Gossip? I'm up early so I'm bored!!

L - prawn mayo salad (my Dad reminded me yesterday that prawns can affect your cholesterol!!)
D - mazzers lasagne & salad
Off to drink my coffee now - see y'all laters!!0 -
Hello everyone
Ok been dieting for 10 years since I had my first baby (never had a weight prob before then), been on various diets and apart from my love of chips and cakes I eat pretty healthily. I have lost about 4 stone to date, but I need some help shifting the last 1-2 stone (not decided on final weight yet). I am on WW at the moment and I keep going up and down, although I have lost 11llb. A colleague at work suggested that I try Low Carb diet and altho she has tried to explain it to me I really don't understand.
Does anyone have a really basic website that could explain it to me in easy terms or does anyone want to try and explain it to me? The main thing I don't understand is how many carbs I am allowed to eat a day, she said 5g of sugar, what I think I need is a basic meal plan for a few days so that I can see what carbs I am allowed to eat.
I have to say I love eating carbs, complete addict, so this is going to pretty tough - I also would like to find packed lunch ideas as I always have a sandwich.
Also complete random, but she said that people know they are a carb addict when they don't feel hungry until they eat, I never feel hungry - is this right?
Thanks all x0 -
the resident experts have left us for a while but if they are lurking they might help out.
It's worth reading the books as the media totally misrepresent Atkins - i eat more veg than i ever did before i was low carb. it's really easy to follow, especially as the weather gets better, and you don't need to think about it. and you're never hungry because if you are hungry you eat. but if you're not you don't.
I also recommend you get the Idiot Proof Diet by Nerys someone and india knight from the library and have a read - its pretty much the same as Atkins food wise but their personal diaries from when they were doing it were revelationary - esp if you have dieted before (and esp if they have failed).
in either case you end up on a lifestyle pretty much the same as a low GI way of eating.
the basic science is that you control your blood sugar levels by avoiding carby food, and all nutritionally empty food, and as a result you relearn when you are really hungry, rather than sugar slump hungry, and how much you need to eat to stop you being hungry.
and because you are having low levels of carbs the body has to work harder to convert the protein and fat into simple sugars in your body than it does for carbs (so higher basal metabolic rate) and your body uses up your fat stores to top up your energy requirement, but as you're not really reducing your calorie count (by eating lowcarb and avoiding sugar spikes you eat the right amount of calories for your needs without having to think about calorie counting hooray) your body doesn't go into starvation mode and prevent the fat being broken down. phew.
to start with you restrict your carb consumption to 20g per day, of whihc 12-15g comes from veg and salad from this list.
http://www.atkins.com/Program/FourPh...FoodsList.aspx
It's true that you DO have to avoid all fruit and root veg for at least 2 weeks but then you can start to increase your carb consumption as you get closer to your goal weight.
I've just started reading the diet revolution by gary taubes which has been highly recommended and it is looking at why the recommended diet became carb-heavy and why he thinks that is incorrect (not that i have got to that bit yet)
(My cousin has lost loads of weight going to slimming world and it's quite funny because when we went to my dad's dinner night she could have the soup and bread roll but i couldn't, but i could have the caeser salad, all of the main course and the butter but she couldn't!)
are you a smoker by any chance? on supersize v superskinny they always tell the skinnys to stop smoking as it's a hunger inhibitor.
i find i don't miss the carby bits of traditional meals at all - i have the sandwhich fillings without the bread, curry without the rice/naan, spag bol without the spag etc. it's strange how you quickly get used to it!My name is Paula and I am a low carber1/6/08-83kg : 1/5/10-57kg
(Atkins/IPD) 24/1/13 - 69kg! Yikes!

Morning all.
< signifies mood
Another pound ON today. (That's 2 pounds in 2 days.)And no, I am not changing my sig...I'm going to ignore it in the hope it will go away before Monday, which is my next weigh day, lol)
I need to get this in check fast otherwise I'm gonna get my ball and go home in a mood. I had a bad day yesterday. After the breakkie out, I felt hungry all day and ended up having chicken for dinner with mushrooms/green beans/leeks along with 2 packets of peanuts and 2 Atkins shakes. (Not all at dinner though:rolleyes: ) I'm getting in a rut again...and I'm really tired again these days. Haven't felt tired for a while so dont know what's going on there.
And yes, I'm just flipping well moaning about it.
Oh well.........
Sweet, good going girl. Exercise can become just as much of a habit as overeating can so you're taking steps to replace a bad habit with a good one. *goes off to find Mazzers 'I'm not worthy' smilie*.
On the subject of cholesterol tests, mine was 3.4 which I'm told is low. This was the figure before I started Atkins, wonder what it would be now? Might get another done for curiosity.
Newish that's a big drop for your OH. Proof of the pudding as they say.
Seconds the Katy Perry suggestion for Badger to wiggle her bum to btw. :rotfl:
Hiya Ally  welcome to the gang.I'm not the best expert around here to advise you but the basics are....for Atkins, it's 20g of carb per day whilst on Induction. (Induction lasts for a minimum of 2 weeks.)
Not sure about the 'people know they are a carb addict' bit in your post? People who are carb addicts are usually almost constantly hungry whereas people who have their carb intake under control usually find they are satisfied with their meals and dont crave food all day long.
Atkins site is quite good for info as is the low carb forums. Have a squizz and see what you think.
