I've tried the square sliced sausage but I don't like the taste, anyway sausages are supposed to be sausage shaped so I don't get why they call them sausages?!
Talking of Scottish things, I'm going up North again this weekend to see new baby niece so looking forward to that but just hope I can stick to the l-c this time.
  • Hello All,
News just in....OH who recently had a brief dabble with "Atkins" and felt really crappy on it (only tried 3 weeks at most...) then went and had a cholesterol test, amongst other things. His LDL had gone up quite a lot, from being quite good, previously. Before the low carb episode, he was eating bread umpteen times a day, smothered with Plant Sterol -type Marg (Asda`s). So, basically, he did what I told him to do as per High-fat-Low Carb Dieting was concerned, and it seemed to have the opposite result from what I was expecting.:o However, he did lose quite a lot of weight in a very short space of time. Now, I expect he`ll put it all back on.He says he`ll have another test done in a month, which will be interesting.
All of which leads me to my next point...Has anyone heard of Nutritional Typing, or had a go at it? ($29-ish) The theory seems to be different genetic types require different diets. Is it just Quackery? I signed up for the newsletters, but now I`m not so sure. Where is Ted? I bet he`ll know..... Here is a link to it :http://products.mercola.com/nutritional-typing/

As readers here will know I like to see published peer reviewed evidence before I spend my money on anything and I can't find the research backup for Nutritional typing.

I think most of the differences in the way individuals respond to changes ie from high carb to low carb diets can be attributed to gut flora and the time it takes for your metabolism to adapt to the new regime.
I think it takes a lot longer for your system to adapt than most people realise, I also think that metabolism is different when you are losing weight (burning stored fat) to maintaining weight. But I'm not convinced you can sort out individual diets according to blood group, ph status or genetic predisposition.

I think generally speaking a low carb diets provide substantial improvements in virtually all health parameters

  • Thanks, Ted.
I was a bit miffed by his results, nevertheless. I feel great on this diet (apart from the flu!) and I`m sure it suits me. It just doesn`t seem to suit the Old Man!
I`m always suspicious of sites trying to flog me anything, in any case......but there are some interesting articles on the Dr Mercola site. I`m not keen on the frequent mention of EFT, though. That just seems like complete hogwash.(Emotional Freedom Tecnique) or Tapping yr chest .......LOL.
    Cheers, Nerdy.

My pet theory is that our gut flora is hugely underestimated. I think that lots of the differences between people regarding food digestion and losing/gaining weight is down to our gut flora. It could also explain food cravings.

    Ho hum.. just got home.
Not really hungry so not going to eat.
Tescos' was just doing reductions, and there was some nice sirloin there but i couldnt be bothered to wait.. Our store now takes items out the back to reduce because of the bl00dy stampede so thought i'd leave it.

  • nerdy, that's not good about OH's test result - would be interested to hear if anyone on this thread has had problems. I'm overdue a 'well person check' so am thinking I should book myself in - they test for all sorts & would think cholesterol is included.
mazzers, don't get yourself down about not losing - you have done great so far. It may be that starting with IF has affected you - I haven't read anything about it but wonder if you have to do it long-term to see results? Weird that both you & alias suffered from bloating as well. Anyway, I know it's not for me.
PS. My mazzers lasagne was lovely tonight - got some left for tomorrow as well. :D
