Is there a substitute for cream cheese in a recipe when you don't have any in the house ? And is "ground almonds" the same as "almond flour" ?0

Mardatha- As for the cream cheese -i guess it depends on the recipe. I like Quark and sometimes substitute it for cream cheese, but it is quite sharp so needs sweetener. Its also "wetter" (?) iykwim.
Focus -hope you feel better soon. Big hugs to you.
Anyhoo, back from London. Stayed in Uni accommodation which was v cheap but I did wonder if we had moneysaved in the wrong place when I saw a cockroach trap under the bed!! Went a bit carb crazy (me, not the cockroach!), was ok the first day but then had calzone....MmmmMMmm. Icing went downhill from then on but it was lovely! Managed to do in my foot while shopping, (probably due to all the extra carby weight I was carrying!) but still managed to hobble about thanks to Mssrs Ibuprofen & Solpadeine.
Have sent hubby out to Mr Ts so lets hope he comes back with something LC and not a lasagne like last time, bless 'im.

Hello all - can I join in? I've been a low carber for a couple of years now, on and off (only off when pregnant). I've kept the majority that I lost off (2.5 stones) but am finding it really hard now to knuckle down and get moving. I have a reunion at college later this month and desperately want to lose a bit more before then...
Mardatha, ground almonds are not as fine as almond flour.0 -
Asda and Sainsburys have ground almonds but don't have almond flour.. I will try it and see .0

Thanks! I saw at the beginning of the thread that there's a variety of diets; I'm on the IPD - is anyone else here doing that one?0

I'm mostly generally low carb, kind of slightly more strict than Dr D. I've never read the IPD book but many have commented on how good it is. The website is lots of fun too.
Hope you like this thread! We're a bit mental but in a nice way :rotfl:

Good to hear it. Hope you didn't think I was being flippant in my other post, didn't mean to be
Btw, we used to have egg & chips for our tea when I was growing up. Real chips cooked in lard!! _pale_ Loved them at the time
Gers, you sound extremely organised :T Can I ask if the bacon & sausages need to be cooked before you cook the egg muffin?? They do sound yummy.
Welcome sarah, I have the IPD book but don't follow the meal-plans/recipes in there. Love reading it for inspiration & a good laugh though, it's a good read.
Well, we have been to Robin Hood's Bay this afternoon & got an absolute soaking!! Got caught out by a massive thunder & lightning storm & we were out in the open with no shelter nearby, was quite scary actually!! I was glad to get home (after a detour to Whitby for fish 'n' chips, sat in the car) Jumped into a lovely hot shower as soon as I got in & then climbed into dry PJs!! Bliss!!

I only seem organised.. but try to be cos of my hectic work and life style! Even though I'm a very early riser (about 6.00a.m. most days if not earlier) I still find myself rushing to shower, dress and have breakfast before I got out so decided to do the egg thing.
Yes, I cooked the bacon in the oven and also the sausage meat then cut them up and put in the bottom of the muffin cups. Used a deep silicone one. Popped a cut up cherry tom in each one too and then poured in the egg mixture. In the oven for about 30 mins (forgot to time them) and then turned them out to cool. The recipe calls for a scattering of grated cheese on the top but I can't abide that sort of cheese omlette texture.
Now got four in the freezer, had one for evening meal and got one in the fridge for my breakfast-on-the-run tomorrow.
Got some lovely rasps and blackberries in Costco today, and they have litre bottles of double cream for about £1.70
Quark is more sloppy than cream cheese so I'm not sure it would be successful as a substitute really. I can remember eating it as a child, in Germany, for breakfast with a spoonful of jam in it. Still can't abide it!!!
Early night for me, got 2 long days ahead.0 -
Egg n chips is delicious and only improved by the addition of ham
