Gers, which woe are you following as sweetcorn is too high in carbs for Atkins, dont know about Dr D's tho
Have just come back from the opticians where old age has forced me to have my first ever contact lenses. WOW, they are fantastic, been wearing reading glasses for a couple of years, but distance needs a bit of help now.
I've got one for reading in one eye and my distance one in the other, mono vision, the brain automatically adjusts. Definately recommended.0 -

OH GOD <trundles off to pick sweetcorn out of chicken and mayo mixture>Have just come back from the opticians where old age has forced me to have my first ever contact lenses. WOW, they are fantastic, been wearing reading glasses for a couple of years, but distance needs a bit of help now.

Contacts are brilliant, even though I wear my glasses in the evening and weekends that's just to give my eyes a rest. I use daily contacts and just love them. Had contacts for about 8 years now and definitely wouldn't go back to only glasses.
Good luck in wearintg them- remember to break your eyes in slowly!
Got a juicy Aberdeen Angus burger in the oven for evening meal and just had my coconut oil. I prefer to eat early in the evening and don't take any food in after about 6.30p.m. - just suits me better.
Mercy - have a fab time in Suisse, I used to live just over the border in Germany and still hanker after it.0 -
Phew.. boy do i deserve a glass of wine :T
I have had a bedroom change around and sort out, i've emptied and moved a huge double wardrobe (mostly on my own) to the other side of the room, my bed has been dragged and spun around, and i have just finished hoovering, still got bits here and there to be sorted on another day.
Got a black bag full of clothes for charity, some unused, tags still on, and am finally getting rid of skirts with a tiny waist, that i cant believe i used to wear 17 years ago, and kept for posterity :rolleyes:0 -
hello chums!
Been ok-ish today. Been out shopping with my mum, which kept my mind off food. (you'd understand if you knew her!) Tend to find totm makes me crave sugary foods more (choc). Strangely, when I have a cold coming I crave salt. Still drinking lots of water but having nightly headaches. *sip*
Mercy -have a fab time. Mmmm, Swiss chocolate...mmmMMmmmMMmm.
Gers -where in Germany did you live? OH is from Winnenden near Stuttgart. I love Germany, especially the pretzels they have in the south, black forest gateau, mulled wine..... Not good when you're icing though.

Mum's side of the family is from Berlin but most of the family are in the south, Baden Wuerttemberg. I was born in the north (Dad was BAOR) but lived/stayed in a small village near Heidelberg. Now an echte Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte is do die for, not like the stuff you get here. Sitting outside Cafe Kranzler with great coffee and great cakes is my 'last wish'!!
Today I haven't eaten yet - been out for a really early morning haircut (love my hairdresser for the times he keeps) and now home. Got a morning of watching Time Team whilst marking some exam papers so a bit good and a bit bad! Antibiotics have kicked in, though paying £7.20 for 6 tablets knocked my brain but apparently 3 days is the optimum course for these particular ones, and I couldn't have waited it out any longer.
Hey ho - yogurt and flaxseed oil coming up. Have a LC weekend folks.0 -
Hi guys,
I've been reading this thread as well as some other weight loss for a little while and wondered if i could ask a couple of questions.
I like the idea of low carb but I am a veggie (I eat fish though) so will this make it very difficult to stick to. I am 25 with 2 kids and could do with losing 2 1/2- 3 st as a size 16 now I feel awful and I can see myself turning into my mum who seems to get bigger and bigger so I know I have got to do something about it now before it gets out of hand. I am a major foodie, I love to cook and bake which is probably my downfall.
Would you suggest buying a book to follow or can I get the basic guidelines by reading back through the thread. Last question (i promise!) do you find it expensive to follow with the kinds of food you need to be eating because we are on a pretty tight budget.
I am actually quite excited about doing something about my weight after so long, thanks in advance for you help!

Lucasmum - You can do it as veggie but it'll prob just need a bit more research to find out the foods that you can eat. Fish will be OK, eggs are good, nuts can be useful. Not sure about Quorn/TVP type stuff as not something i really eat, but a quick check of the packet will tell you if it's OK or not.
You don't really need books IMO, some info on this thread, the Atkins website is useful even if youre not following it to the letter, there's a carb counter on there somewhere too I remember downloading. You could always just start by cutting out/down the obvious carb stuff like bread, pasta, rice, potatoes etc and increasing salad/veg on the plate and see how that works for a couple of weeks. Also cut down on sugar in sweets, chocolate, some fruit etc as well initially. Proper low carb can be quite hardcore and tricky to stick to for some people, so maybe an easy introduction might be worth a go first.
It can be expensive but I find that it's meat that bumps my bills up so maybe that may not be such an issue for you? I suppose it may take a bit more planning to get cheaper fish/veg/eggs reduced at supermarket, or shop elsewhere for better deals maybe?
Obviously with any food regime, the best way to lose weight quicker is to increase exercise too so that would be worth making plans for as well. Even something small like walking kids to school instead of driving, or if you walk anyway, try and find a longer route home etc will all help.
Im loving today as it's my refeed/cheat day so I've had protein porridge with raspberry sauce and 2 weetabix already so far, curry with rice coming up shortly for dinner, and prob Pizza Hut for tea (salad bowl with the smallest poss pizza though) with a glass of vino whilst watching X Factor. Hallelujah to refeed days!Little lady arrived 13/12/110 -
Morning all,
Congrats to Mazzers son for passing
Happy holidays to Mercy - have a fab time!
A warm welcome to lucasmum, you can also try http://forum.lowcarber.org but I don't find them as friendly as this thread. Did spot the coconut oil mayo though, will see if I have all I need to make some, sounds yum
Well my headaches turned out to be swine flu *boo* so spent the last cpl of days flat on my back resting. Feel achy but OK-ish today if I don't move around too much. Had my cheat day yesterday, angry BK whopper, jam doughnuts and garlic chicken. Faaaarrrr too much food but considering I'd not eaten properly for 3 days I shall forgive myself
Today is scrambled eggs, sausages and a dollop of sour cream, so good. Not hungry enough for lunch but will have a cpl spoons of yoghurt with linseeds after my T of coconoil and plenty of rest.
Have a good weekend one and all *hugs*0 -
Hi peeps
brekkie this morning was the last frikadillen in the fridge and i`ve just had dinner - a tub of potted beef
Tea hopefully will be the cauliflower crust pizza that i`ve been trying to make for the last two days. Something has always got in the way of me making this so i`m back off into the kitchen shortly to get it done.
I`ve just bottled 15 bottles of wine and been chased around the house by an angry waspall the wine is safely put away in the cupboard and the bit that was left over is in a pint glass in the fridge DH eyes will light up later when he gets home from work. I shall be good and have a voddie later.
The lime marmalade is made and i have GOT to have a tiny taste, then that will all be stashed away for Christmas pressies and DH`s toast in the mornings.
Lucasmum - there is a great recipe on here somewhere posted by mazzers for a really tasty lasagne made with courgettes instead of lasagne IYKWIM, i think that it would adapt really well for fish, nice bit of cod maybe?
Off back into the kitchen to make the pizza now
Have a good day peeps..
SDPlanning on starting the GC again soon0 -
