We aren't wanting to go too far away as i'd rather stay near the kids in case anything happens, but i have no idea at all where to go!!! do any of you guys know somewhere nice? just on the offchance.

How about Fife or would that be too far away? Or Edinburgh or is that too 'been there before'? Or East Lothian? Just thinking if the weather is nice you could go for nice long walks along the beaches?

Onewing, that was a good site, and it also mentioned that when your fat cells lose fat they fill with fluid making weight loss seem to stall.
Thats what the pig2twig site said too.
Good info on insulin resistance too.

Cant suggest anywhere i'm afraid as i've never been to Scotland but Cardiff castle is nice if you can spare half a day to travel :D  :p

Its come all lovely and sunny here now, so it'll be lovely and hot n sweaty in work tomorrow

My carbs are up a bit today as i made brownies again and had a small one, i have counted though and am on about 60g which is better than a complete pig out, and is probably the result of too much wine yesterday.

I succumbed to ONE raspberry puddle in Hotel Chocolat - first taste of sugar in a couple of weeks. Really enjoyed it but don't crave any more. That feels good!

i just realised that i am throwing so much money away on unwise food choices, i need to watch my spending :( i love eating this way but i do find buying meat and veg expensive :( i know we have had this discussion before but has anyone found ways to reduce their spendings?

i think im gonna be strict and just write a list out for the week and stick to it 100% starting from monday cos ive got enough food until then :D

Hi focus - I try to menu plan and shop a couple of times a week. I also grow my own lettuce which saves a bit at lunch time. One of the guys at work wants to buy lettuce from me, lol. He thinks it looks much better than the bagged carp he buys from the supermarkets. I work near lots of wee shops, so its handy for me to pop out at lunchtime. I appreciate its not as easy for everyone :)

  • Morning all :hello:

Tis a grey, misty & wet morning here :( Has been like this since yesterday lunch-time so had indoor bbq last night  In other words, the sausages & burgers went under the grill!! Decided to stick the woopsied steak in the freezer for another day. Didn't have the Pimms either as not warm enough to have a summery cocktail  Ah well, it won't go off!!

Anyway, not sure what we are having for dinner tonight?? Feel a bit yuk so I'm hoping hubby will arrange something.

Hope everyone has a good day

focus: If you really want to cut down on spending then you could always try what I used to call my emergency budget ( the week before payday usually). I would work out a week's menus for each meal, down to the number of carrots, sprouts whatever, and then do a shopping list accordingly. Obviously using whatever was already in the cupboards/freezer but really counting everything I needed.

My son was always sooo embarassed but I would only buy 4 sprouts if that was all I needed! I also bought at the deli counter so only 2 slices of ham instead of a packet. It brings you up sharp but does make you look at shopping in a different light and helped to cut down our overall spending as well as it became a case of 'do I really need this' instead of just chucking bags of stuff in the trolley. By the way check the prices per kg of bagged versus loose veg as there can be quite big differences. Hope that helps, also on the OS board they are a very thrifty lot and full of good ideas.

As I was at my favorite pastime this morning of drooling over food blogs, I came across this article about coconut sugar. I have a block of palm sugar in the kitchen and went and had a look, sure enough the ingredients are coconut and water. It cost 60p for a 500g block (Asian Supermarket), which needs to be grated, or put into hot ingredients to dissolve. I bought it ages ago for a Thai green curry recipe, and used only a tiny amount. Anyhow a bit of research suggets that as a sweetener it is very beneficial, hardly any fructose, mostly sucrose meaning it has a GI of only 35, with lots of minerals.

On a low carb diet, I would imagine it still needs to be used sparingly, but I'm thinking it would give me the texture I need for my ice cream recipes :)

It tastes caramely like brown sugar.
There is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so.
