All that makes perfect sense to me mazzers. When I was thin (yes, I used to be a size 10 in a previous life  ) I probably missed more meals than I ate...simply because I wasn't hungry and food wasn't important then (I also had a life then, lol.) I was fit and healthy to boot.
With having the family and having to have a schedule and fit in with what is the norm, food became a large part of the day. I've often thought it was worlds away from what would have been 'natural' for us many many years ago.
I think I may well give this a go . *goes off to read more*
Edit: where did you lot come from?:rotfl: There was no-one there when I started typing this.

An american "cup" is 250ml.
BUT the new Atkins Nutritional Approach (aka Atkins Diet rebranded for the 21st century) focuses on the total carbs of the veg/salad rather than volume of it so if you're eating the less carby stuff like lettuce/cucumber/mushrooms rather tomatoes/peppers/onions you can eat LOADS more than the simple 2/3 cup measurements (hooray).
http://www.atkins.com/Program/FourPhases/WhatIsInduction/AcceptableFoodsList.aspx
I have some technical kitchen scales which calculate carb content of the foods (originally bought for their fat/calorie count, lol) and they show that you could eat a dustbin full of lettuce if you wanted to, but if you do eat the higher carb salad/cooked veg the 2/3 cup rule does work out about right so it does depend on what you are eating.
I kept wondering why the running total on the scales showed that i was way under my daily allowance if i stuck to the cup measurements. It took me ages to spot that the 2/3 cup allowance related to COOKED veg not raw, and if you actually you used the weight allowances rather than volume ones you often ended up with totally different amounts of food.
(these are my scales in case you have no idea what i am talking about!

i got mine years ago from lakeland)
I just did a quick measure and a whole iceberg lettuce has 14 grams of carb.
Also, I've spotted that fresh salad dressings seem to have much lower carb counts than longlife ones, as well as tasting nicer. waitrose caeser is 2.7g per 100ml so you can splosh it on really liberally! My name is Paula and I am a low carber1/6/08-83kg : 1/5/10-57kg

Question on the IF thing. Seems that on the eating days you tend to eat more......what I'm not clear on is whether it matters if you eat bigger meals or whether you eat your normal meals and also eat inbetween? I see mention of breakfast and dinner a lot but not much about any other time. Any ideas?
If you intake x amount of calories and carbs on an eating day for arguments sake, does it matter if it's all in one go or spaced out throughout the day?Herman - MP for all!0 -
Morning, all
Badger, sounds as though you have a new romance - what fun! :happyhear:happyhear
I appear to have lost all the weight I put on last weekend during my (Bad) Mothers' Day binge.Back on the straight and narrow for me, with any luck. It's just OH and me this evening, as DDs are both out, but instead of suggesting an Indian as a treat (which we normally have when it's just the two of us
), I've got some lamb cutlets out of the freezer. :A
Made Mercy's Mexican Fudge yesterday - finally. Was very nice. Funny though - I much prefer it cold. Bit too like scrambled eggs when warm - or perhaps that's just my cooking.Never would've dreamed two pork steaks and a bit of spinach would fill me.
Totally agree, Mazzers. Also agree about the 'starvation mode' thing - that idea has never made sense to me.jumpingjackd wrote: »
Was mad as hell this morning, we parked in McDonalds at the weekend and got a £95 ticket in the post today. Fingers crossed if I ignore it it will go away.
Isn't there some legal loophole whereby you can wriggle out of these? Have a search through the forum - bound to be a thread on it. And I think this guy has something to do with campaigning to make people aware of parking tickets that are issued by private companies and therefore illegal for them to pursue? I don't know much about it, but if you have a root around you should find some info.
Weather pretty grim here. Hope it's better where you are.0 -

I did it for a month or so last year, and found that it didn't really matter too much what you did - eat whenever you feel hungry (on eating days) and you quickly settle into a comfortable routine. To be honest, I didn't really end up eating any more on the eating days, which was great for the food bills
You expect it to be "cor I'm starving, what can I grab?" but the funny thing is you don't - you find yourself spending more time and effort preparing a decent, healthy meal because your body has become accustomed to the feeling of hunger and is therefore happy to live with it while you cook.
