I have started my low carb plan today. I'm following a hybrid of the IPD and using some compatible recipes from Cleochatra (the lighter side of low carb blog - the one with the oopsies and cauli pizza). Basically I am going to stick to foods with less than 5g carbs per 100g and see how I go.
I want to lose some more weight, I'm already down 2 1/2 stone from my heaviest (some of the loss due to being in Hospital last year) and currently size 18. I look a damn sight better than I used to but looking forward to being even lighter. I don't see some of my friends all that often, next time will be end of August, so I've got a good long run at shedding some poundage, haven't I?
I am a carb junkie. I can eat a whole Tiger loaf with butter on it and still want more. Potatoes? One more potato than a pig, can I eat. And rice? If I cook a cup of rice I can eat the lot. Having read the Diet Delusion I understand why now!!
For breakfast I've had two hard boiled eggs with a little grated cheese and mayo mixed in. Dinner tonight will be last night's left over barbecue meat (chicken bits, ribs and meaty sausages) with green salad. Lunch maybe pilchards and salad or tuna and salad.
I'll really miss bread. For a while at least. We went to Skegness on Sunday so I made sure I had my last chips of the summer. They were good, but I felt a bit sick afterwards.
I'm a bit of a nutter, so I think I'll fit right in! Been reading you all for a while now and you're definitely an inspiration!
Wish me luck with my icing!0 -
Hmmm, seems water isn't just H2O after all
Just googled table water and it is tap water, with added ingredients, salt water or minerals, needs no official approval.
Spring water needs no approval either.
Mineral water is the way to go it seems  the makers would say that tho wouldnt they
Right, enough time wasting, breakfast and some cleaning and cooking before work0 -
Before i go, good luck with the icing sally, i lurrrve bread too, especially tiger loaf, i can smell it from 2 miles away
I have found a great 'bread' recipe, which is on the bottom of mercys recipe list on page one.0 -
I always ffind it hard to remember breakfast, before LC, I had a bowl (40g) of home made muesli with a 1/4 spoon of cinnamon and semi milk, I have that about twice a week now, it was so easy for the mornings, I really miss it.
I'm really not keen on cooked or continental breakfast so usually ffind I'm eating yogurt (full fat) or cream with a teaspoon off whey powder or some berries.
Yesterday
Breakfast - muesli
Lunch - 2 ryvita thins crackers loaded with cream cheese and some sliced grapes
Dinner - Layered aubergine lasagne bake thingy, I normally dry fry the aubergine, but I cooked them in coconut oil, they were lovely but very rich.
Snack - small tandoori chicken breast left over from the BBQ on Sunday.
I get weighed tonight, hoping it's still going in the right direction. There is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so.0 -
I would always choose mineral over spring water as I read about the 'no official approval' thing for spring water a while back.
Good luck 'another newbie' sally& congrats on already losing 2 & 1/2 stone. Your friends will definitely see a big difference in you if you don't see them all the time & it will be a huge boost to your confidence when they all start oohing & aahing over how good you look!!
I love the IPD book, even if I'm not following it atm, tis a good read & can see myself in so many of their situations.
jordy, can I ask why you get weighed at night?? Most peeps get weighed on a morning, after their daily (I wish ), cough, constitution.0 -
Hello fellow Icers,
Its tooooo hot. I know, I'd complain if it were cold/rainy anything but I don't like warm weather . I should have been an eskimo.
Little Gem cat is recovering, thankfully. I'm thinking of getting her some salmon as a treat. OH is allowed out of the doghouse, although if he eats all my LC quiche today he will be back in pronto.
Mmmm, Tigerloaf. Mmmmm.
I'm not drinking enough water either. Sometimes I put a little sugarfree squash in it just to give it a bit of taste. (naughty). Our tap water tastes nasty & soapy even through the filter jug. Meh!
Jordylass -all the best with your weigh in later.
My stomach jusst made a massive growl. Think it is time to feed the beast.

Forgot to say that tesco has packs of 4 drumsticks and 3 thighs for £1.50 which is half price.. now they are worth stocking up on!!
How would you cook them Mazzers? I could do with some tips as they are great value!
I bought two packs the other week - did one with the Coleman's chasseur mix (delish but caused a lot of pain and made me windy). The other pack I roasted in lemon juice, oil and dried rosemary. OMG - it tasted fab!

Welcome to rosy :hello: & can I ask how you made your creme fraiche & tarragon sauce for your chicken dish, it sounds lovely
I have two methods: t's so easy and it tastes like a french restaurant dish (well, I think so).
For 4 people, the posh way:
4 chicken breasts, on the bone if you can get them
oil, butter, salt, black pepper
250g sliced shallots/onions
2 garlic cloves, crushed
250ml hot chicken stock
125ml dry white wine (or use extra stock if you aren't drinking)
250g creme fraiche
chopped fresh tarragon
heat a tblsp of butter and a tablespoon of oil and fry the chicken breasts for 3 mins each side, lift out and set to one side. Fry the shallots and garlic till softened, add the stock and wine and return the chicken breasts, and put a lid on and simmer on a low heat for 25 mins till the chicken is done. Lift out the chicken again, boil the sauce till it's reduced by about half, stir in the creme fraiche and chopped tarragon, cook till thickened and adjust seasoning to taste Slice the chicken off the bone, arrange on the plates, serve the sauce over, garnished with a sprig of fresh tarragon. The kids like this with rice or noodles, I like it with greeen beans and/or broccoli.
Easier method: use chicken chunks or chopped cooked chicken (eg left over from a roast). Fry the chicken (if raw) with the shallots and garlic, add the stock and wine, cook till the chicken is done, reduce the sauce to about half (add cooked chicken at this stage), stir in the creme fraiche, chopped tarragon and seasoning and heat till thick as before.
Either way it's delicious.
I need to drink more water at work, I'm thinking a bottle which I refill on a regular schedule will be best. There is a water cooler but I have to go outside and down some steps to another office to get to it.
Today's menu will be:
B - ham rollups as yesterday
L: Ardennes pate and salad as yesterday
T: prawn frittata with whatever veg I can find in the fridge0 -
