Stevia.
It's apparently the most natural and healthy sugar-alternative (both Atkins and Elliot praise it) but it's not licensed in the UK.
On Dr Bernsteins site, some favour stevia, some find they can't taste it on its' own and need to mix with other sweeteners. Will still be much cheaper than getting it here and it may well work for you.
Apparently erithritol / erithrotol is a good sugar substitute - without the dodgy bowel side effects of some polyols. I recommend you go to Dr Bernsteins website and search for these sweeteners. See what you think.

You'll have to join up but it's free. I have got some good recipes from there, ie mexican fudge
It's a Canada / America based forum but most Canadians on there seem to have to buy from America so you'll be in the right place
I reckon if you asked a question on there about what you should buy L/C wise you'll get a good response. They all seem v nice folk.
Hope you have a great time!

I'd like to try it, although I've read that its taste is not necessarily palatable in some dishes.0
