Hi Betterlife, Sounds like you generally have the right idea with your plans. With low carb it generally depends whether you want to follow a plan and they often start you off strict for example Atkins you don't go higher than 20g of carbs a day and Idiot Proof gives you a strict list of what you can have and what you can't (you can't have some veg for instance). The strict starts usually mean quick weight loss to kick start the diet but they are not essential and I know people who just go generally low carb and still lose lots. It's up to you. The thing I would say regarding breakfast is that on the days I don't eat much first thing I am generally hungrier through the day and find it harder. When I force myself to eat a decent brekkie it sets me up for the day.
On that subject I didn't have a big brekkie today - I had some lidl sliced polish sausage, a bit of cheese and a couple of nuts. I then went to a christening and I am proud as I didn't drink even though there was free wine. I only ate low carb -coleslaw, chilli (i took out the beans) and salad. I think there may have been some sugar somewhere as I got that familiar 'I want to keep on eating and I'm not satisfied feeling' so I have had more cheese and sausage this evening. So I haven't technically cheated but I still feel hungry. I checked and I am still in Ketosis although I don't know how quickly I would come out of it? Anyone know?
Tomorrow is sanctuary spa day and I can't wait. :j Going to have my first drink since NYE and stay low carb on food but not super strict. Hope I don't have another super hungry day as I have got used to this full feeling this diet gives me!
Definitely going to give Almond Milk a go as I am missing my morning cup of tea very much!
GunsandBanjos - good luck with getting back to it!
Since starting again after beanie: June 2016: Child development DVDs, Massive Attack tickets. July: Aberystwyth trip, hotmilk nightie. Aug: £10 Hipp Organic vouchers, powerpack. September: Sunglasses. October: £30 poundland vouchers.
  • Thank you for the warm welcome, im not following a particular plan, just trying to cut out as much carbs as i can for a bit, as they are my downfall so trying to go cold turkey. use to headaches with 4 kids and working from home lol, so will just drink plenty of fluids and have headache tablets at ready! (hope they have`nt got carbs in lol) looking forward to starting which sounds strange, but ive been planning my meals the last couple of days so im prepare as im generally rushed of my feet throughout the day, so have meal planned for me and family for the week. will weigh & measure 1st thing and make a note of it, so fingers crossed. felt like i was having my last supper today at lunch time with a big roast with all the trimmings and trifle for tea. got my brekkie all ready in the fridge for tomorrow so will try and eat it daily even if its after ive done the school run, x

In my experience planning is the key as, otherwise, there is too much to tempt if you don't have food that you can have / like for when you feel hungry.

sweet - your walk sounds nice, do you live by the sea? I am struggling because I don't feel so good this time and didn't lose weight last week. Due to weigh again tomorrow so we will see. Also my daughter, who lives with me, keeps baking cakes, making pasta etc for everyone and I have to be very strong when everyone around are eating whatever they like and there is temptation everywhere. I must lose weight so will keep trying.

Enough of my moaning, have a good week everyone and keep posting your menu's / recipes as it is good to get new ideas. Mercy, are you still willing to update the recipe list that is on the first page? Love to hear how you are getting on x

Hi, I am starting low carbing today and need to lose a lot! I did it for 3 weeks before going on holiday in November and lost a stone in 3 Weeks which was impressive but have pigged out over Xmas so put most of it back on :-(

I have a girly holiday booked in May which is my motivation this time and I am doing a combination of meal replacement packs and low carb food as this is what I find easiest to stick to.

There's loads of good ideas on here about what to eat so I'll be going back through the thread for ideas so I don't get bored and reach for the carbs.

Well done to everyone on your losses, very inspirational!

  • Exactly 2lbs off this week :D I need precisely 1.7lbs (stoopid scales!!) to get into my next stone!!

Eleanor, hope you're having a wonderful time at the spa, it sounds lovely!!

SHEILA, I completely agree with needing to plan when you're LCing. There's nothing worse when you have nothing in & you're absolutely starving, completely miserable.
I'm sorry you're not feeling great this time :( It doesn't help when other people in the household are not being supportive. Hope you feel better soon.
And yes, I do live by the sea, so am able to go for lots of bracing walks!! :rotfl:

ali, good luck with starting today, what meal replacement packs are you having??

Also, good luck to g&b & betterlife :)

B - leerdammer slices, garlic sausage & lettuce 'sandwich'
L - mushroom soup (M&S), 2 buttered crispbreads with cheese
    D - chicken with cheese & bacon (Asd@), cauliflower & cabbage mash/puree, cheesy leeks

Hmm, seems a very 'cheesy' meal plan today :o g&b would approve!! :rotfl:

The M&S mushroom soup was lovely & 7.2g carbs for a big bowlful (300g). It's a fresh soup (currently buy one, get one half price). Another lower carb one I saw was chicken & vegetable (no potatoes) at under 7g for 300g. I know I should make my own soup, but I was out & about & saw this & I didn't think it was too bad carb-wise for ready made soup.

  • Evening all, 1st day of low carbing today, so weighed and measured waist 1st thing, and manage breakfast (which i never normally have) after dropping kids to school. made an omelette with 2 organic eggs, 1 mushroom, 1 slice of ham and grated cheese, was very nice. dinner i had a very small bowl of the sf jelly/creme fraiche mix which is lovely! i made mine like normal jelly (as in full pint of water) then stirred in 4 heaped tbsp of cf, a 1/4 of this is about 1 carb. snacked on 2 baby bels, and a small piece of celery with almond butter on , but not sure that i like celery anymore! not sure what to have for tea, as my soup turned out yucky (to cauli tasting for my liking) so may have prawn salad or stir fry, feeling pretty hungry now, so could do with filling up as evening are normally my down fall. drinks have been water , black tea and tea with almond milk. well done on the weight loss :) xxx

  • Ok so tea was salad (lettuce, cucumber, 1 tom, 1 spring onion and 1 radish) all finely chopped with handful of prawns and a tin of skinless & boneless mackerel in olive oil, was very yummy, and a sml bowl of jelly fraiche for dessert x

    Hi

Back to the straight and narrow this year as I have put on 2+ stone  How easy it is to regain weight but now I have to knuckle back down after taking it a bit easy at the end of last year.

I thought that I would try the Zoe Harcombe diet for a couple of weeks but it has been too restrictive and I find this easier. I have lost 9lb but have stalled over the past week.

    How is everyone doing?

To all newbies I should mention that this really does work. I lost 6 and a half stone 2 years ago and felt so much better for it.

So, I am going to post what I am eating today and ask if I am doing ok? I am lacking a bit of confidence at the moment and hope that nobody minds.

breakfast: one poached egg, 1 rasher bacon and bubble & squeak made from cauli, brocolli and swede leftovers.

lunch: half avocado with 1oz cheddar & chicken salad. 2tbsp bio yogurt.

dinner: salmon with cauli / broccoli mash and mayo +
almond pancake with 2oz berries and a little cream

    snack: 1 sq 85% chcolate

drinks: 2 decaff coffee with milk, 1 decaff tea with milk, water

I reckon that this is around 40 net carbs

Thanks everyone and have a good day!!

We sound similar....can I ask what the basics are ....just protein and few carbs...
