A good workout this morning, breakfast was 2 scrambled eggs, straight after training had a handful of almonds, lunch was chicken, peppers, chickpeas, lentils, onions and butternut squash and dinner will be beef fajitas again. Snack will be greek yoghurt and grapes.

I am not weighing myself as my aim is to gain lean muscle and tone up, if I get smaller that is an added bonus. Certainly getting a lot of comments that I appear to have lost weight. My physio said I was looking 'sleak' I could have hugged her!

I think Navy! I have pink, blue with gold dots and red so maybe navy! I don't want to buy clothes as hopefully will be slimmer!

What does the almond milk taste like?

It sounds like your menu is fine. Do you find that you lose on 40 net carbs? I am scared in a way to increase mine in case I stop losing.

It's good to see some of the previous posters here - I wouldn't want to think they are leaving it up to us newbies to run the show!!

Sorry I can't seem to edit or delete quotes on my pc at the moment so that's why I am quoting massive chunks of writing. Might have to stop that and just answer you rather than using multi quote!

I have been following a low carb diet for a while, except for the blip at the end of last year, hence the weight gain. It affects my thyroid levels if I go to 20 carbs and it isn't really sustainable long term. Atkins suggests that you try increasing your carb level by 5 for a week, after induction, and see what happens to your weight loss. You then carry on increasing by 5 a week until you reach the amount where you stop losing and that is where you stop increasing. For me it was 40 - 50 carbs before I went off the rails so I am trying to keep to 35 - 40 which gives a better choice. What works for one may not for another, it is really trial and error.

By having an almond pancake with berries and a square of chocolate, 85%, it keeps me happy :)

Well done on the weight loss everyone!!!!

Be warned, if you go off the rails it seems that you don't get the fast weight loss that you did the first time round but I don't get bloated and feel generally better eating this way.

See here for details of Lactofree products
    http://www.lactofree.co.uk/products/dairy-drink/

They are lower in carbs and, as milk is quite high in carbs, the extra price doesn't seem so bad when you only have a little.
  • Hiya SHEILA, good to see you back :D

    B - bacon, egg, mushrooms
L - 2 buttered crispbreads with cheese. Garlic sausage & lettuce wraps
D - chicken with bacon & mushroom (M&S), cauliflower & savoy cabbage mash/puree, cheesy leeks

Red wine & 45g salt & vinegar peanuts tonight :j

Will be moving furniture today, so that might have to count as my daily exercise.
  • Eleanor, the almond milk is an acquired taste. When I first tried it I thought it tasted of the leftover milk when you've had a bowl of cereal :rotfl: I actually don't mind it now & will keep buying it.

Yeah Sheila it says in the Idiot Proof Book that if you go off the rails you don't see the same results again if you get back on track. I wonder why?
I am 2lbs away from being able to up my carbs a little. I haven't had a drink in jan and I am going to sanctuary Spa on Monday as a pre wedding treat from my Mum and I am having my first alcoholic drink! A lovely glass of bubbles I hope!
I might try the almond milk. I wonder what it is like in tea. Is it sweet tasting? The end bit of cereal doesn't sound too bad!!

How is everyone? Today I am still on a bit of a high from losing my stone. This doesn't mean I want to go to the gym after work but I will!

    Today I had:

B-Last bit from a batch of Mexican fudge. (Wasn't sure about it at first. It felt very dense and heavy for breakkie however I got used to it and lost weight the week I started it so will def do again!)
L-Pret Crayfish and avocado salad with only half the pot of dressing. It's my go to lunch option in town.
D-Last portion of Mercy's Chicken korma with cauli rice (wish it was a naan bread"")
Since starting again after beanie: June 2016: Child development DVDs, Massive Attack tickets. July: Aberystwyth trip, hotmilk nightie. Aug: £10 Hipp Organic vouchers, powerpack. September: Sunglasses. October: £30 poundland vouchers.
  • I wouldn't say the almond milk is sweet, I'm not really sure how to describe it  Make sure you get the unsweetened version if you do try it.

B - leftover cauli/cabbage mash/puree with grated cheese on top  garlic sausage
L - 2 buttered crispbreads with cheese. Garlic sausage
D - chicken with bacon & mushroom (M&S), cauliflower & savoy cabbage mash/puree, cheesy leeks

I swapped my M&S meal for an Asda one last night, so I had buffalo chicken with chilli cheese (third of a pack) instead. I was seduced by the description :o but it wasn't that nice.

I've been for a walk along the seafront today, lovely & calm weather one way & wild & windy on the way back - I look like I've been dragged through a hedge backwards!!
  • Hi,
i was wondering if i could join this thread please?
my sister has lost 6st in less than a year on slimming world, and got down to a size 10! it has really given me an incentive to try myself.
I would like to try the low carb diet and would like to loose about 2.5 stone.
ive been grocery shopping today as i would like to start on monday, and ive bought some of the almond milk mentioned above, i would describe it as tasting/consistency of skimmed milk but with a nutty taste, not bad, im drinking it in tea at the moment and its perfectly drinkable :)
i dont often eat breakfast as i cant always stomache eating that early, and with getting 4 kids ready for school dont always have the time, but i have bought a packet of the sugar free jelly (as someone suggested as low in carbs) and some creme fraiche, was wondering if anyone has mixed creme fraiche in with jelly when making to make it like a set yoghurt kind of thing?? as i couldnt find any full fat yoghurts!
im planning on making a chic stock tomorrow in slow cooker as a base for chic and veg soup, (no potatoes) so i will prob have that for dinner monday, and make salsa (tomatoes/pepper/onion all finely chopped) for tea to have with cheese. tues ive planned prawn mayo salad for lunch and steak, broc & cauli cheese and garlic mushrooms for tea, snacks i got some celery and almond butter (which seemed to be the lowest in carbs) and i`ll nibble on salad, chic and prawns, drinks will be water , almond milk and tea. is that all sounding ok??
One day I will live in a cabin in the woods

    Hi
Sounds good to me. If you look at any normal yogurt that is not low fat it will be ok. Personally I like greek yogurt and Yeo Valley do one that is also bio, blue container. Lidl and Aldi also make them. You could have yogurt with jelly and a flax mixture for breakfast but it really depends how low you want to go.

Mercy, durham_mim - how is life treating you?

sweet - thanks for the welcome back. I am finding it quite hard but hanging on in there.
  • Welcome betterlife, of course you can join us :D
I used to do the crème fraiche/jelly combo & it was really nice, it was like a blancmange. It was on the back of the jelly packet as a recipe years ago. I used to dissolve the crystals in half a pint of boiling water, wait for it to cool (but not set) & then whisk in the crème fraiche. I used to add a handful of frozen raspberries/blueberries as well.

Make sure you eat enough & be aware that you will feel tired (especially your legs!!) for the first few days as you adjust to less carbs. You will probably also get a stonking headache. I'm not trying to put you off, it's just with you saying you have 4 kids I want you to be prepared!! :D Anyway, good luck with it.

SHEILA, is there a reason why you're struggling with it this time??

I've been out for a walk this morning, it's lovely & sunny but the wind was cold!!

B - leftover cauliflower/cabbage mash with grated cheese first thing. 2 boiled eggs after my walk
L - leerdammer slices, garlic sausage & lettuce all 'sandwiched' together
D - HM chicken curry, cauliflower rice, sprouts
