Good luck for Monday, James
I have to confess I haven't read Atkins, Taubes or Eades so don't know what the 'insulin theory' isI'm not following any particular plan, just eating lower carb/higher fat & doing more exercise (walking).
B/L - babybel, 2 x buttered GG crispbreads with egg mayo (butter added), garlic sausage & lettuce wraps
D - HM fajita chicken, green mash/puree, cheesy leeks
I had pan fried minute steaks for dinner last night (instead of the usual chicken), OMG they were delicious, definitely having them again
Well, it's Friday :j so I'll be having some red wine tonight. I've bought myself some KP salt & vinegar peanuts to have as well
Have a good weekend.0 -
Hello
I'm coasting a bit at the moment, mainly due to £, but talking of television programmes I watched supersize vs superskinny last night and the overweight American woman featured really gave me a scare! I got this chilling feeling of how the body could become a prison.
It made me realise I can't leave this. However long it may take I have to keep trying! ( I have to say that she was very happy with her size and was trying to get bigger - I couldn't get my mind around that at all either).
I also saw a trailer for a programme on Weds, Horizon I think, about fat vs sugar. I've read Taubes etc and tend to think they're on the right lines but it will be interesting to see what this one says.
I'm going to try harder for the rest of the month and then start properly again in Feb when I get my new grocery budget!August Shopping Challenge. 26/8. Budget £250 Spent £256.81.. £6.81 over. So £0.00 a day left.0 -
I do my big shop in Ald1, buy things when I see them on offer in other shops & use money off vouchers to try & cut costs. I do try & eat LC as cheaply as possible.
However...I did drink a full bottle of wine last nightBig mistake & I'm still paying the price now, even though I went out for a walk on the beach earlier to try & clear my head
B - cheese & mushroom omelette
L - 2 buttered GG crispbreads with cheese. Garlic sausage & lettuce wraps
D - undecided
Drinking lots of water todayNo wine tonight
Might have some salt & vinegar peanuts though

I'm not going to start Monday. I'm going to start tomorrow
I've had a crap couple of days and it has pretty much been one long line of junk food. I'm ready to start and have enough low carb stuff in the house until pay day (Wed) when i'm going to hit Aldi as they look to have some great stuff based on their website. I've always avoided Aldi because I didn't think their stuff had nutritional values on (maybe I am thinking of somewhere else or things have changed). Clearly based on their website their stuff does have nutritional values which is a huge help.
On my hit list is:
Quarter pounders
Cheese
Cashews
Pastrami
Bacon Medallions
Eggs
Sausages (I skin them, and make them into patties and then put them on George Foreman grill)
Butter
Other stuff I will get from there or Tesco:
Salad
Mushrooms
Burgen Bread (i'm sure you all know about this, 12g carbs per slice)
Mayonnaise
Tomorrow's menu:
B: 50g toasted almonds
L: Bunless quarter pounders, 30g cheddar, 10g tomato ketchup, saladTwo low carb pittas, 2 eggs cooked without fat in ceracraft pan, 4 bacon medallions, 30g HP sauce
S: 20g PecansI've allowed 75 kcals and 10g carbs
Totals: 1599 kcals, 110g protein and 41.1g carbs. I'll be happy with anywhere from 1500-1800 calories but i'd prefer it nearer 1500 so 1600 isn't too bad.0 -
Hello!
I'm going to aim for 45g carb in a day.
Been checking out my current lifestyle and - trust me, 45g carb would be a great (huge) change
I make lunches for work in the manner of stew and last breakdown gave 30g carb - from veg - per portion. (massive bacon stoo - lush) I'm currently looking at how many curries I get from a similar doings over crushed cauli. And the carbs per portionStill think I'll be looking on the 25 - 30g per portion. But as it's so wonderful and filling I shant worry.:rotfl:
Just need breakfasts and evening meals.
So for Monday (no point worrying about tomorrow, I start Monday)
B - Boiled egg and chicken leg with cream cheese
L - stoo
Eve - ham and chicken omlette with chillis
Can't wait!
I'm cooking a full chicken tomorrow but will only use the legs and some breast for me. Sick cat needs chicken so will chop up rest of breast n other bits like the skin I don't want into portions and freeze for baby boy. (18 years old)
It's not only me, my whole household (lovely cats) is low carb all the time! For me, it's from Monday
Mx
PS made fruit and nut bread from recipe list and it is still lovely. Hadn't eaten Saturday so made some and in 10 mins from thinkin about it I was happily munching. Lowish carb and lovely with butter. Xlow carb recipe list - link on page 1 low carb support threadYou don't have any control over what life throws at you.You DO have control over how you react0 -
Well I fell spectacularly off the wagon as my daughter was taken into hospital on Wednesday night and ended up in the high dependency unit :-(
I ate what they had in the vending machines/canteen as there was no other option, hospital food is unbelievably unhealthy!!!!
She's doing fine now and is out but gave us a scare, I think she saw every doctor in the hospital that night!
I'm going on a course this week and am staying in a hotel from tonight til Thursday so not going to restart til I'm back. The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0 -
James, I get my salad, mushrooms & mayo (full fat version) from Ald1.
Mercy, good to have you back postingI love the sound of fruit & nut bread, will have a look at the recipe.
g&b, hope your daughter is doing ok now, it sounds like quite a traumatic experience for all of you
I've just been out for a 20 minute walk & I'm drenched!! Freezing cold wind & rain.
B - garlic sausage & leerdammer cheese slices (£1 in co-op)
L - fry-up (sausage, bacon, eggs, mushrooms)
D - cod in butter sauce (had this last night as well after finding it in the freezer), green mash, cheesy leeks0 -
Hi everyone,
I've been lurking for ages and trying to read as much of this thread as possible before I post (I didn't want to miss any nuggets of info!) however it was taking too long and I am now already 3 weeks in to my low carb diet. I started on 2nd Jan and have been following the IPD although I am a bit of a nutrition geek so mainly know what is high & low carb.
On my first week I lost 10 lbs then on second I lost 1lb (wrong time of the month though) and then 3rd week I lost 2lbs so 13lbs in all. I haven't cheated once and am sticking to no sweeteners or caffeine yet. Haven't moved onto phase two yet as still feel I want to get a bit further along the journey before i eat berries/sweetener/dark chocolate. I also haven't had a drink yet however looking forward to that in Feb. I reckon it's the longest I have gone without a drink since I was 13!
The main reason I am losing weight is because I am getting married in April so I have a good incentive to stick to it but that doesn't mean it isn't really hard sometimes!!
The main reason I am posting is because I wanted to say thank you!! I've made the Korma, mexican fudge and also have taken lots of ideas. You guys have also clarified various things for me and you also got me through a horrific two days when I literally felt awful. I just read this thread and it helped as I knew it wouldn't last! Anyway that's me!!Since starting again after beanie: June 2016: Child development DVDs, Massive Attack tickets. July: Aberystwyth trip, hotmilk nightie. Aug: £10 Hipp Organic vouchers, powerpack. September: Sunglasses. October: £30 poundland vouchers.0 -
Eleanor, welcome to the thread & congratulations on the weight loss, that's fantastic!! :T Good luck with the impending wedding
Almost 2lbs off for me this weekNot bad considering the wine-fest this weekend
B - bacon, egg, mushrooms with hot sauce (thank you for telling us about that, g&b)
L - 2 buttered GG crispbreads with tuna & spring onion mayo. Garlic sausage & Leerdammer cheese slices if I'm still peckish
D - HM fajita chicken with crème fraiche, grated cheese & green mash/puree
I'm going through cauliflower (& curly kale/savoy cabbage/spinach) at a rate of knots at the moment as my kids love the green mash/puree I make
Will get out for a brisk walk later. I'd like to increase the distance/time this week.0 -

Thanks - wedding planning is very exciting but taking up all of my time and stress!!
Did I miss a post on hot sauces? Is there any low carb ones? I miss sauce!!
Well done on your loss this week. Do you have scales that are more specific than a lb? I weigh in on Thurs and already worried about it!!Since starting again after beanie: June 2016: Child development DVDs, Massive Attack tickets. July: Aberystwyth trip, hotmilk nightie.
