  • I appreciate you taking the time to bring all of these resources together for me. I am currently in the process of making some significant changes to my diet that I intend to make last for the rest of my life. I have noticed that carbohydrates make me feel horrible. They run me down, fog my head, and emotionally drain me. I have been cutting carbohydrates and sugars from my diet little by little. By the end of this year I intend to be in a position that my diet will consist of many more raw plant based recipes, as well as proteins from nuts and meats of various types. I am excited about the changes.
  • Morning everyone :)

B - cheese slices, garlic sausage, sliced boiled egg, lettuce 'sandwich'
L - 2 buttered crispbreads with topping (to be decided)
    D - Zero's pesto chicken (had this last night-on Mercy's recipe list), cauliflower/cabbage mash/puree, cheesy leeks

I might make some green soup this morning (frozen broccoli, frozen spinach, celery, cauliflower, leeks, frozen sprouts, cabbage, stock). It's definitely the weather for soup!!

Drinks will be water (plain & sparkling), unsweetened almond milk & decaf coffee.

marlon, let us know how you get on :)

Hope everyone has a good day.
  • morning all, good luck marlon.
well today is day 3 of low carb diet, last night steak tea lied heavy on my stomach all evening so must`nt have such a big bit next time :) weather is horrendous here! not sure what to have for breakfast this morning, maybe poached egss, although what i could really eat is toast or cereal lol (must be good) was tempted to weigh this morning (normally a daily weigher) but would of been disappointed if i had`nt lost, so must be strong and wait till monday. have decided to drink normal milk in my tea today, and hopefully keep headaches at bay! think i may make some bubble and squeak for tea tonight with carrot, cabbage, spouts? or something like that, then fry in butter, have with cold meat and pickled onions?? can i have these? there homemade with no added sugar. good luck everyone today with diet and weather! x

Not too many as onions are higher in carb than green veg. Stick with it - the first few days are the hardest!

I had a lovely day at the spa on Mon. I had a glass of bubbly and a glass of dry white wine but stayed low carb with my food much to my Mum's admiration/frustration. I got a headache that carried on through to yesterday so was a bit confused as to why that was as don't think my carbs went higher than about 25g so that couldn't have kicked me out of ketosis? Anyway the headache has gone and it is weigh day tomorrow. I'm not expecting much as have decided to come of the pill so my body is all over the place. I've got PT (personal training) and am going to the gym 4 times a week so looking a bit leaner. Lots of people are noticing which is really great.

Disorganised today. Had nuts and cheese for breakkie as struggled to get up in time to cook. Going to make some more Mexican fudge tonight if I can so to have easy breakfasts.
    Lunch: Mushroom soup
    Dinner: Not sure! (Disorganised again!)

Well done everyone for sticking to it!

Portion sizes!!! Red meat is one of the hardest to digest. I never eat more than 200g in a single steak or even less if curry, casserole etc.

To a certain extent you are right but in the first few days of low carb you are still hungry from previous carb intake and the most important thing is to count your carbs and keep focused. Very soon your appetite changes and you cannot eat big portions very well. In my first couple of days I ate a lot (but hardly any carbs) and this helped me stay on the straight and narrow. Within 4-5 days the protein and fat I ate meant my appetite was small compared to when I first started. So yes eat smaller portion sizes but you will anyway after the first couple of days. I have only been hungry on this diet in days 1-3 which is brilliant.

  • Didn't get chance to make soup this morning so I ended up buying a 'fresh' chicken & vegetable broth from the co-op to go with my crispbreads for lunch. It was a bit higher than I would have liked (over 8g carbs for 300g soup) & I'm starving now so feel it was a waste of carbs!! :(
  • had a lovely tea, of bubble & squeal made with carrot/cabbage/sprouts/swede/spinach (will prob be very windy later and not talking about the weather lol) 2 poached eggs which i did in water for the 1st time (very pleased with myself) and 2 slices of cold meat. felt really down earlier when i had already decided to drink real milk in my tea to stop the headaches as oppose to almond milk or black tea which i was`nt enjoying, so thought i`d measure out 100ml (which is 4.9g carbs) and as i have my tea milky its about what i normally put in my mug!! why on earth i thought 100mls was more i don`t no! anyhow i suppose seeings ive been cutting out practically all carbs in food it wont hurt, as to be honest i bet i was eating 200 plus carbs a day and the last 3 days its prob been less than 20 carbs. starting to feel less hungry today, and only had cheese and a few walnuts through out the day, but still fancying naughty things like cakes and choc (although i never needed to feel hungry to eat them before:) nearly had a slip up when my 5yr old bought his tea plate out to the kitchen with 2 french fries chips on, i put them in my mouth without even thinking lol had a few chews then realised what i had done and quickly spat them in the bin and rinsed my mouth with water lol i did not swallow :) xx

It doesn't look as though you are eating much fat and you need it to fuel your body and to stop feeling hungry. Why not try lactofree milk, available in all supermarkets? I allow 100ml whole milk (enough for 3-4 drinks) a day and it has 2.8 carbs
http://www.lactofree.co.uk/products/dairy-drink/. Cream is also ok provided you don't overdo it.

The reason that it lower in carbs is that the lactose is removed but it tastes the same.
One carton lasts 10 days and it costs £1.34

If this is to work you have to eat things that you enjoy, whilst staying low carb, so ask away if there is something that you miss and someone will try to help. Cake was my downfall but I now have an almond pancake each day, with a few berries, and it mostly does the trick. Celeriac can be made into chips if you are really wanting some.

Also use your 20 carbs as it is very low. You will be able to up it a little as time goes on.

Have a good day everyone :)
  • Morning :)

B - cheese slices, garlic sausage, sliced boiled egg, lettuce, thin slice onion & mayo 'sandwich'
L - maybe the same as breakfast (it's my new favourite meal :o) or 2 buttered crispbreads with topping
    D - HM fajita chicken, cauliflower/cabbage mash/puree, garlic mushrooms

I've put the co-op soup in the freezer, hoping someone else will eat it :D I did find a portion of green soup in there that I made a few weeks ago & forgot about, so I might have that as a snack.

Feeling a bit down in the dumps this morning (probably because TOTM imminent), so hoping a brisk walk will cheer me up.

Hope everyone is doing ok today.
