that podfood breakfast sound lovely caeler, there must be so much choice in London.
I visit occasionally, maybe once a month so it is my little 'treat' or rather it is now I can't have what I'd usually have.

I've lost 1.7kg in my first week, that's about 3 1/2 lbs. Quite pleased with that.
Well done! What a great start! Your now in ketosis and you'll find the snacking becomes less and less but remember Mr Atkins says eat until you are full so don't worry, just make sure you snack on the right things. I used to enjoy cream cheese wrapped in a slice of salami.

I'm wondering what the deal is with carbs and dairy products?
I can't seem to find a clear answer anywhere.

Is plain yoghurt low carb or not? What about sour cream? (I used that as dressing paired with mayo a few times)

Do I need it or just want it.

Lillie-put Atkins suggest a number of reasons for stalled weight loss and it happens to us all during this diet at some stage or other. Read here: http://www.atkins.com/Program/Phase-2/Trouble-Shooting-in-OWL/FOUR-REASONS-FOR-STALLED-WEIGHT-LOSS.aspx

I don't exercise either but this shouldn't matter, although for a balanced healthy lifestyle we should be doing something. I do occasional yoga stretches which helps a bit.

One thing I don't understand is 'should I change my 2 days I usually do weekends would it be better if I separated the days apart?' - What do you mean?

The recommendation is that you don't do two consecutive days but that's what my OH has been doing and he's been happy with the results.

Oh, I follow Atkins and I'm still in induction which means I don't eat more than 20g of carbs on any day. I would be in and out of ketosis if I didn't limit my carbs every day.

Oh gosh, what a lot of new faces!

Hi Everyone, just popping back in to say I'm almost back to being alive :) sorry I just dropped off the radar completely it's been a totally manic year. DS1's moved back home and qualified as a lifeguard and swimming teacher, DS2 is now in a specialist ASD unit and doing really well.

If anyone's interested there's still a few days to go on the Gluten Summit which has been absolutely fascinating so far. It has led me to commit to going fully grain/legume free, which has been a bit haphazard so far as I do love my dhal and naan bread even though it leaves me feeling so bad. As far as I can tell from the interviews so far the general consensus is that anyone with any chronic condition probably ought to try going gluten zero for 3 weeks/ months.

IIRC the carbs quoted on yoghurt are those present in the milk before it's cultured. Most of the carbs are in the whey. 'Greek' or strained yogurt is lower in carbs than regular yoghurt because the whey is strained off and discarded. Cream is naturally low in carbs - cultured sour cream even less so - though if you sour your cream using lemon juice you increase the carbs slightly. Watch out for the cheap and low fat yogurt/ cream/ cheeses as they are higher in carbs and use high carb stabilisers (compare the ingredients/ figures for Tesco basic and own brand soft cheese with Philly for an example)

Hey, I am not sure how active this thread is, been reading a few pages. I read a book when I was visiting my family in Holland last week about being low carb for two meals and eating a "normal" meal, incl carbs for one meal and it has to be eaten within an hour. Once home again, done some asking and investigating for an english version and discovered a similar thing called the Carbohydrate Addict Diet. I have ordered the book on Amazon for 1p but it is taking ages to come.

You could think of it as a form of IF, by having carbs at only one meal you're extending the period of ketosis for an additional 8 hours or so. I often just have water and a couple of cups of coffee with cream during the day and then a meal at night.

Welcome back Daska, its been a busy year for me too. Not posted much as my weight has been yoyo-ing for the last few months. About 2 weeks ago I decided to slightly lower the amount of fat I was using. All I have done is replace butter with a dairy free spread when mashing celeriac or swede, and instead of using cream I use watered down cream. When having a roast dinner I was having both mashed celeriac and mashed swede, now I have either one or the other and have reduced my portion sizes. The result is I lost 2lb last week. I have continued doing the same this week and will let you know how I get on tomorrow as that is my weigh in day.

Today I have adapted a recipe from my Beat Candida Cook Book, it was one of my favourite recipes when doing that diet. All I have done is substitute flour with ground flax. I've not tasted it yet as I've just taken it out of the oven but it looks promising. Here is the recipe:

    Low Carb Milk Bread

    2 1/2 Cups ground flax
    2/3 cup of ground almonds
    1/2 cup dessicated coconut
    2 tbs sweetener (optional)
    1 tsp sodium bicarbonate
    2 tsp lemon juice
1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
1/2 carton of lactofree cream watered down (soya milk can also be used)

Pre-heat oven to Gas Mark 6 (200C/400F). Mix the dry ingredients together. Stir in lemon juice and olive oil. Add sufficient milk to make a very moist sticky dough. Pour into a greased 1lb loaf tin. Bake for 20 mins at Gas mark 6 and then 30 mins at Gas mark 4.

I'm not sure how well flax freezes but I'm going to slice this up and put it in the freezer, that way I can just get a slice whenever I want to.

Forgot to say I used the flaxseed with blueberries and raspberries to give the impression of a sweeter loaf. The recipe can be made as a plain bread by subsituting the coconut with more flax or ground almonds and omitting the sweetener.

Had a piece of the milk bread last night and I have to say it is yummy! It's lovely and soft, a cross between a bread and a cake.

Another plus note, I've lost another 1lb this week, its the lowest I've been for about 15 years:j
