    Hi
    I understand as I have put on 2 of the 6 stone that I lost originally and am very cross with myself. I did try going down to 30 - 40 carbs again recently but came out in lots of mouth ulcers and didn't feel too good so I have decided to start again tomorrow on 100 and then gradually decrease down.

    Can any wise person tell me why this happened? Also has anyone tried anything different that has helped as I really want to get that weight off?

    Have a good day :)

    That doesn't sound very pleasant Shelia54. I've obviously been lucky as I've started back at induction on 20g and I've adjusted quickly. I tried the 5:2 diet for a while but I couldn't manage it and came back to low carb. I hope you find something that works.

    caeler - glad that it is working for you.

    I am gradually lowering the carb level but I haven't weighed yet. Downward and onward, I hope ;)
  • i used to low carb diet but i am about to shatter you guys who like it... generally low carb diets people end up very low cals (not all but most) ive been watching a dr named layne norton on you tube now for quite a while (also natrual bodybuilder) and i have been eating with his guide now for ac ouple of months, basically form being on a low cal low carb diet i am upping my carbs 10g per week and fats 2 g upping them slowly allows your body to adapt to the larger intake therefore less fat is put on and held by the body as apposed to low cals then "binging" on food, im currently up to 245g carbs 47g fat and protein stays where it is (180g) my aim is to get around 500g carbs before trying to loose the little excess fat i have added on, the best way to understand it is go through his video logs on youtube the ones mainly on metabolic damage, also using this way once carbs are high enough the "clean" eating doesnt have to be as strict aslong as the foods fit in your macros, i.e for a meal chicken brocolli and sweet potato may be eat but you really fancy a chocolate bar after? the fat content and carbs and protein still fit in that days macro count... eat one ... the whole carb gi context only works after a fasted state with only that carb source, when eaten within a meal i.e proteins and fats the gi ratings go out the window... if you search biolayne on youtube you will understand more clear.. hope some of you check it out

    Hi Sheila, just wanted to say that I have no answers to your dilemma, but want to encourage you. Are you eating plenty of fat, have you tried the coconut oil at all?
    Have you tried delaying starting eating until about mid-day- it was easier than I thought it would be, and it stopped my 'stall'. Now I eat a 'breakfast ' meal maybe 2 in 7 days, as I'm on maintenance at the mo.
    Your persistence will get you there Sheila,you are so caring to everyone on this thread and you must feel abit abandoned :(

    Chin up girl, little steps towards your long term goal.xxxxxxxx

    I go to the gym regularly and train(both free weights and cardio). I had bulked up too much !! and was very big (not fat) but had a high BF% due to calories consumed.

    After speaking to one of the trainers her advice was;

    * 1500 calories or less per day AND
    * 500 calories High Intensity cardio

    Doing this I went from 13st7lbs and 28.2% BF to
    11st6lbs and 18% BF within 6-8 weeks.

    Plenty of protein and low carbs is the answer but you also have to put the work in. In saying low carbs, you either want to have carbs early in the day or a slow release carb...porridge/oats etc....

    My routine was;

    * Breakfast...either porridge or 3/4 boiled eggs sometimes(wholemeal toast) Ideally without toast
    * Mid morning....protein bar/shake or fruit and almonds(almonds have good fats)
    * Lunch either chicken/pork loin and salad/boiled eggs/pickle(excellent for stripping fat) and/or Tuna/salmon
    * Mid/late afternoon protein bar/shake or fruit and almonds
    * Dinner Chicken chicken chicken or tuna/salmon and green veg...sweet potatos.

    This can be varied...Ideally you want 5 small meals per day. Reason being BF% is mostly visceral fat(collects around organs) As a human, you body is used to 3 meals a day on average. By retraining it, you body knows it will receive food later and does not hold on to fat stored.

    After 10/21 days your body changes and starts to burn visceral fat(giving you a lot more energy than carbs gives) bringing your BF% down and toning you also.

    I ended up that sharp at training after 3 weeks of this, although felt dreadful at first..you have to push through. You will know when you do as plenty of energy and your body enters a healthy state of Ketosis(not the diabetic version)

    And to top it off...every 7/10 days I would have a treat day...eat, drink and do whatever I wanted or fancied. 1 day off will not harm you and keep you focused...it shouldn't be a chore but rather a way of life :)

    I hope this sort of makes sense and you can pick out the key points.

    Back from holiday and I've only put on 2lb which I'm sure is due to eating bread and dairy products over the last 4 days. We were far from shops or restaurants and only ate what was provided on the kibbutz. I was starting to feel really poorly at the end of 4 days and am really glad to get back to low carbing properly. I'm sure once the toxins are out of my body I will soon loose the extra 2lbs. I've just had a look at my holiday pics and am pleased to see I am looking a little more toned on them than in previous years. The first 6 days of the hols went great as most meals were meat with salad, I did indulge in the odd dessert as these were dairy free and I wanted to make the most of being somewhere where dairy free desserts are easily available.

    Sounds like you're doing great Sheila. I get mouth ulcers when I eat foods containing lactose, my whole mouth becomes very sore. Have you checked to see if you are intolerant to anything?

    started low carbing last week and just by changing a few things, i have cut my carbs by around a 1/3. which to some doesn't seem much but to me is good and i'm please with that.
    having either porridge or bran flakes for breakfast
    lunch at work is either a sandwich made with multiseed granary or a homemade salad bowl and a banana
    but the evening meal is the struggle. i dont want to deprive my other half of a good meal at the end of the day, so does anyone have any suggestions on this matter.
    we both like chicken but i usually serve it with rice ot jacket spud and veg. any recepies would be great.
    also, can i have brown rice and whole wheat pasta?
