  • I sometimes have tea, I have coke zero as a treat it is ok.

I find I must have some kind of intolerance. If I start going carb heavy, then I will literally gain 10 inches on my waist overnight. I look normal, then look 9 months pregnant overnight. So it is easy for me to keep at it, really as it keeps me slim.

Also by going low carb, you'll probably put yourself into a ketogenic state, which takes away your hunger...protein is filling anyway.

    Morning all,
Hope you are all well and enjoying life to the full!!
I'm still eating paleo/primal on the whole, and have found that not starting eating until lunchtime really helpful.

I just wondered if any of you who have adapted to the low carb way of eating, have found a change in your hair? my hair is going more curly, it always had a 'kink' but now there are definite curls. I thought it might be cos of hormones or something, but I read on another paleo site, that others felt their hair was going curly too. I still don't know if its just co-incidental, so thought I'd ask here. Could it be diet related???:)

I've found that as well but I didn't associate it with the change in diet. How weird!

Yes. :rotfl: I wondered if it was due to having layers cut in my hair on and off over the last few years but it's definitely curlier :D
    How odd :rotfl:

You don't have any control over what life throws at you.
You DO have control over how you react :)

has anyone else noticed how the hartley tall jellies have gone from 6 for £2 to 5 and now 4 for £2. Well after reading the ingredients i decided to make my own. I used tesco fruit and barley squash which unlike the hartleys actually is made with real fruit juice. 100ml plus a little of no added sugar squash and topped up to 1 pint with water made 3 hartley jelly pots full. ( i kept the pots as they might come in use someday!)I am vegetarian, so used vege gelatine but this worked out at 49p for 3 full pots, so would be much cheaper with normal gelatine.the carbs of the squash was about 1.7 and i don't know if gelatine has any carbs, will go and have a look.

eeek! vege gelatine is made with dextrose as the main ingredient, though no indication of how much is in a sachet.80gm of dextrose has 72 carbs, one sachet of vege gel has 6gms of ingredients, would you geusstimate at 5gm carbs for 1 sachet, total approx 2 carbs total a pot. phew!

    hi all

    I'm a newbie to this thread :D

i've been low carbing for just over a week . My father bought a book and lost 24 lbs in about 5-6 weeks so thats basically what got me into it.

I've been sticking to under 40 grams a day which I'm pleased with but I have a couple of questions :)

The book I have says to drink tea instead of coffee due to the caffeine as caffeine triggers the same response with insulin. I was going to have a vodka and diet coke when i go out to the pub but there's caffeine in the diet coke. What do you all do?

My other question is, is it the net carbs (after fibre) you're all counting?

thanks in advance guys...off to read all the fab recipes that are on here :D

... In the UK the carb count is net on all products so you take the value stated on the side of the product.

    thanks for this :)

I am boring and pretty much stick to sparkling water when I go out as I want to keep my carbs for food.

Some people find caffeine a problem when starting out so I was boring and pretty much stuck to water and herbal tea. The caffeine withdrawal was marked but I felt a lot better for it.

    How are you getting on?

It's been a few months but I'm back. I'm been VERY neglectful with my maintenance so I've regained all of the weight I lost plus some. I should never have let it get this out of control but I did. I started Atkins again on 7 September and so far have lost 10lb. It feels like a really positive start and I love that it feels like I'm eating like a horse! I've got a busy week next week where I'll be travelling and attending meetings so I am nervous about my options and willpower.

Thanks to the diet I'm already feeling more myself again. I'm looking forward to tucking into a mushroom, cheese and onion omelette tonight. Yum!
