I also find breakfast the hardest meal to be
    1) quick
    2) not just eggs

I have in my repertoire currently:
    - sausages (cooked night before)
    - eggs (poached, scrambled, omelette with any of cheese/ham/spinach/onions/mushrooms)
    - tinned tomatoes (plum or chopped)
    - cheese
    - ham
    - smoked salmon
    - a slab of 'low carb mexican fudge' (google it!)
    - any combination of the above !

any other suggestions would be gratefully received.
    thanks
    Nick

YAY! That's on the recipe list on page1 of this thread! It is so lovely and you can use sliced cherry toms, spring onion, slivers of peppers - if you don't want chillies in yours :) I do though, hotter the better :rotfl: (kinda helps with 'congestion' to :) :rotfl: )

You don't have any control over what life throws at you.
You DO have control over how you react :)
  • mmmm, thanks everyone for the ideas. The Mexican fudge sounds yummy, but is the calorie content right? Is that per square?? Are calories something I don't need to consider so much?

If you low carb then you don't count calories but carbs but I have found that, in general, I have around 1500 - 1800 calories a day as I chart what I eat. Fat and protein tend to keep you full so you tend to eat less anyway. Have you a guideline to go by?

I lost 6 and a half stone by following a low carb diet a couple of years ago. Unfortunately I have put back 2 stone of it but am trying to get rid of it again. If you then start eating normally the weight will go back but it is an eating plan for life, not a diet

If you need any advice then we are happy to help :)

    Re: calories and carbs

Initially just eat as per the plan
You will regulate how much you eat as you go along.

No Pasta, Pastry, Bread, Rice, Potatoes, Biscuits, cake, Even any sort of cake, Anything containing sugar. Including sugar :)

Drink cordial sodas, rather than fizzy pop. Makem weak but tasty by using lemons or limes juiced into Soda Water.

Aw babes, you wouldn't be here without a guide. If you are - get one.

IF Carbs in your thing equal = more than 8% say no.

If you stick to that. You will do well. If you do it properly you won't - after a bit - be even looking at those things.

Look to Veg for your vitamins rather than fruit.

    Big love XXX

Low carbs is the best way to lose weight....and keep it off IMO.

I lost loads low carbing and pretty much stay at it apart from Christmas.

No carbs, no sugar,no booze. Booze can be full of carbs/sugar and isn't great for you as it puts a body on low carbs under a lot of pressure.

    Some great recipes in here.
  • thanks everyone for the help!

So - if the carbs are over 8%, I don't eat/drink it? Ive just had a coffee that says per 100ml 3.6g is carbs, but per 100g, 32.8g is carb. Which do I go by?

Im not too bothered about the booze, and drink very watery cordial drinks anyway, so no problems there.

Its just a total change not to track the fat content and calories!

I will work my way through this thread over the weekend and hopefully be ready to start on Monday. No doubt I will be back with more questions! Its great that you are all there with lots of experience to share.

    thanks again xx

    Hi,

I've not posted for ages but still low carbing. ALthough I've found myself being more lenient and allowing myself one or two things per week that I shouldn't have.

I don't mind too much as doesn't seem to have affected me, but am thinking I'll get myself back 100% strict in the next week or two.

Anyhow, posting because people asked about breakfast. Until now I've been alternating between a cooked breakfast and greek yoghurt with flax and flaked almonds.

Just recently got a bit fed up of cooked breakfast and searched for something else. Tried this delicious almond berry smoothie for the first time last week:

It's very nice, really enjoyed it so think it will become a regular thing for me. For those who said they want something quick to have at work this would be ideal, as you can prepare and take with you to easily drink on the go.

    HTH.

You need to compare like for like, so 32.8g for every 100g = 32.8%.

Is that 32.8g per 100g of the coffee granules? You'll only be using a spoonful in a cup of coffee.

If you use instant or ground coffee the amount of carbohydrate to have it black is very little. It is the added milk and sugar that ups the carb count. So a latte would be quite high as it has a lot of milk added. Black coffee with cream added is better as cream has less carbs than milk. Sounds strange when you are used to a low fat diet but you will get used to it. :)

I use this website to track what I eat / drink. It is American so gives the carb count gross and then you subtract the fibre. In the UK the carb count is net on all products so you take the value stated on the side of the product.
