I go to the gym regularly and train(both free weights and cardio). I had bulked up too much !! and was very big (not fat) but had a high BF% due to calories consumed.
After speaking to one of the trainers her advice was;
* 1500 calories or less per day AND
* 500 calories High Intensity cardio
Doing this I went from 13st7lbs and 28.2% BF to
11st6lbs and 18% BF within 6-8 weeks.
Plenty of protein and low carbs is the answer but you also have to put the work in. In saying low carbs, you either want to have carbs early in the day or a slow release carb...porridge/oats etc....
My routine was;
* Breakfast...either porridge or 3/4 boiled eggs sometimes(wholemeal toast) Ideally without toast
* Mid morning....protein bar/shake or fruit and almonds(almonds have good fats)
* Lunch either chicken/pork loin and salad/boiled eggs/pickle(excellent for stripping fat) and/or Tuna/salmon
* Mid/late afternoon protein bar/shake or fruit and almonds
* Dinner Chicken chicken chicken or tuna/salmon and green veg...sweet potatos.
This can be varied...Ideally you want 5 small meals per day. Reason being BF% is mostly visceral fat(collects around organs) As a human, you body is used to 3 meals a day on average. By retraining it, you body knows it will receive food later and does not hold on to fat stored.
After 10/21 days your body changes and starts to burn visceral fat(giving you a lot more energy than carbs gives) bringing your BF% down and toning you also.
I ended up that sharp at training after 3 weeks of this, although felt dreadful at first..you have to push through. You will know when you do as plenty of energy and your body enters a healthy state of Ketosis(not the diabetic version)
And to top it off...every 7/10 days I would have a treat day...eat, drink and do whatever I wanted or fancied. 1 day off will not harm you and keep you focused...it shouldn't be a chore but rather a way of life
I hope this sort of makes sense and you can pick out the key points.
Okay so due to your cals being that low what happens when you stop loosing fat and hit a platau... your going to have to drop cals more... and are you doing the HIIT per day!?.. the main way people put fat on is due to daft diets or these low carbs... ive been there, as soon as you stop and start eating "normal" again your going to put alot of weight on you need to increase carbs and fats slowly and constant you wont put as much fat on and when you want to loose it you will have more calories to play with... i used to low carb.... never again! my aim is to build up to around 500g carbs, 100g fat and 180g protein aday before i cut then i should be able to start a cut at around 450g carbs with aorund 90g fat.... now whats better starving your self and craving food or eaing alot because your body has adapted slowly and you havent put as much fat on after "dieting"
i think a fare few people should check out biolayne on youtube and check his metabolic damage video logs...0 -
oh and if your eating carbs within a meal with proteins and fats the whole GI rating goes out the window0

Hey, I am not sure how active this thread is, been reading a few pages. I read a book when I was visiting my family in Holland last week about being low carb for two meals and eating a "normal" meal, incl carbs for one meal and it has to be eaten within an hour. Once home again, done some asking and investigating for an english version and discovered a similar thing called the Carbohydrate Addict Diet. I have ordered the book on Amazon for 1p but it is taking ages to come.
I have tried WW, slimming world, Atkins and everything in between and can never stick to anything long enough to lose the 10st I need to lose.
So going to try this and see if I can stick to this way of eating. The good thing about it is, I can eat with the family, can make spag bol, curries with rice and have something sweet as well. All without counting points, calories etc and hopefully without feeling hungry all the time and cravings for chocolate and carbs.
I started on Monday and so far, so good. Anyone else tried this way of eating successfully?
today's menu:
b: bacon, l/c sausage
l: mushroom omelette and salad
t: chinese take away, celebrating DD's passing her driving test, I think I will go for Char su, which has vegetables and meat and I will have a bit of rice too. Not sure how this fits into the plan, but trying to make the best of it without the book.0 -
Hi!
I am sister of Mumoftwo and we have started this plan together.
I have also tried every diet out there and then some.
This addicted to carbs thing makes perfect sense to me, so will try for sure. Started this week and am 600 grams down already. I am dutch so on the metric system.0 -

You might get some craving later on tonight due to the E621 that is common in chinese. But if you are aware of it you can handle it I think.0 -
Yes, read that in mum's book, about MSG0

This thread has become very quiet of late but welcome all newbies :wave:
I started low carbing over 2 years ago having tried to lose for most of my life but not succeeded. I needed to lose 8 stone but managed to lose 6 and a half stone over a year and was over the moon. Since then I have put back on 2 and a half stone as I have strayed a bit and was advised to up my carb levels as it was affecting my thyroid.
It does work, you do feel better on it but it can be a bit monotinous, in my opinion. Having said that it is the only thing that has worked for me and I try to stick to the basic principles although I do stray sometimes. I would like to lose the weight that I have gained but have to balance it against other problems so am trying to have around 100 carbs a day and, on this, my thyroid is back to normal.
Let us know about this 2 meals of low carb idea and if it works? Seems to me that it is just a low carb diet with the carb level set higher but, if it works, then it is worth looking into.
How is everyone doing?0 -
So far it is working well for me.
A steady loss during the week. I'm obsessing still, with weighing myself every day. I will stop that as of next week I think. I'll try. LOL!
I am completely NOT hungry! And that is SO nice!
and because of the one meal with carbs I don't feel deprived at all!
I have desert and all!
And I don't have the side affects that I had when I did atkins a few years ago. Like the bad breath, and the difficulty on the toilet. Which is great!0 -
Hi
Right, I weighed my self in B**ts yesterday and was pretty dismayed that I have hit 13.11. Too near 14st for comfort - and too near OH's weight!!
So I have started to eat mostly low carb seriously as from today. I've done this before and know that it works and it also seems to suit me, my head clears in a few hours.
It was reading the Gary Taubes book after I'd seen him on telly that first opened my eyes to low carb . Now I've got 'Fat Chance' by Robert Lustig out of the library so I'm going to read that to bolster my resolve over the next few days!
My main problem is cost (so I've decided to have a small bowl of porridge for breakfast - at least until I can find a cheap replacement) and reconciling what I want to eat with the rest of the family. This is what usually stops me carrying on with low carb but this time I'm determined to work it out. I would be really interested to know about any frugal low carb cookbooks - I have the Rose Elliott ones.
I'm 50 next June and would really like to get to 11.7 (about halfway!)by then - I think this is doable.
So off I go again!August Shopping Challenge. 26/8. Budget £250 Spent £256.81.. £6.81 over. So £0.00 a day left.0
