    Hi all,

Well I seem to be doing OK at the minute, not too hungry but definitely still have an appetite. Have been reading up on Atkins and he seems to recommend a shed load of supplements. Do you think you really need them or is it a bit of a marketing gimmick. Surely if you are eating a healthy diet you shouldn't need them? What supplements do you all take?

Also, quick question. I love greek yoghurt with berries, but have been steering clear as I usually sweeten it with a tsp of honey. Anyone any ideas for something else that I can sweeten it with.

I use xylitol to sweeten cream to eat with berries.

I must confess that I take a lot of supplements, around 18 a day. That would take a while to type up :rotfl:

There's absolutely no need to take any supplements unless you have a specific health condition or are pregnant (folic acid). Eating a varied healthy diet will provide all the nutrients your body needs.

Nothing wrong with honey. It's natural :)

Our food just doesn't have the same level of nutrients in it that it used to have. Unless you're eating a lot of calories, you're unlikely to be getting good levels of vitamins and minerals. If you're choosing your food well you'll be getting enough to prevent deficiency diseases but that not the same thing as being in the best of health.

If you're living any distance from the equator, you'll almost certainly be deficient in Vit D as we need plenty of sun to make that.

    Hi

Thanks for the encouragement pink princess. I am trying, in more ways than one ;)

If you want to see if you are getting the right amount of nutrients then join this, it is free and you can put in what you eat and it will tell you all of the information you need.

Be aware though that it is an American website and you deduct the fibre count to get a net carb count whereas the packaging in this country has already taken them off!!!

I take fish oil and a general multivitamin tablet but I get omega 3's etc from flax mixtures, my favourite being flax, pumpkin, sunflower seeds and gojo berries.

My usual problem is to get enough potassium but the UK recommendation is lower than that in the US.

Have a good day everyone :)

It is soooo hot, it is like being abroad but with no pool.

Gammon and egg salad on the menu tonight. Not much cooking.

Brekkie was Salami crisps with cheese and a handful of almonds.

Lunch was sliced meats with mushrooms.

I'm going to make some lemon coconut bombs for later. Refreshing after this heat.

Back from hols and various celebrations and I have put on 2lbs. Like Sheila I am struggling and seem to regaining the weight I'd already lost. Hopefully once back into a routine at home the 2lb will come off again.

    Breakfast: Greek yogurt and berries
Lunch: Low carb malt loaf with butter and lactofree cheese. 1/2 bag salted almonds.
Dinner: Pan fried salmon, fried mushrooms & green salad. 2 squares 80% chocolate.

I was bought a yogurt maker for my birthday and I am in the process of making lactofree greek yogurt. If it works I will be able to vary my diet a bit more. I have made coleslaw with a yogurt base before (don't like salad cream or mayonnaise) so I will be able to have that with my salads. It will be good to have a bit more variety.

Theres a surprise. that is what happens with diets. everyone talks about dieting to lose weight but no one seems to talk about what happens when you stop the diet. styarve your body of nutrients and it will punish you as soon as it gets the chance.

    Hi

I have proved that when I eat low carb I feel better, have less digestive problems and have lost a lot of weight eating this way when nothing else has worked. My GP believes that I have a carb intolerence, especially bread, and this has been stalling my loss for years.

The problem is that, when I eat more carbs, the weight goes back on.

Back on the straight and narrow for 3 days and we shall see if the weight I have gained starts to come off again as I need it to.

I want to get to the stage when I can splurge a bit sometimes, not fully as I feel awful, but then cut right back to lose any weight that I have put on.

breakfast : soft cheese and yogurt with a few berries and flax mixture

lunch : chicken, brie and cucumber. 2 brazil nuts and 4 walnuts with tsp almond butter.

dinner : chicken and brie salad with half avocado

    snack : 2 sq 72% chocolate

drinks : 3 coffee, 1 tea, lots of water

    Carb count 35 net

I have to say that this weather makes me drink more water and I don't feel like eating anything hot.

    How is everyone else doing?

Mercy : how about you? Are the kitties being good?
