    Turmeric

    Very nice in eggs.

Tasty in any spicey dish - or is it? Who can tell in a spicey dish :rotfl:

Add to stews, any stew like products - LC lasagne etc - you would not know it was there.

It will only do you good.

It is so cheap. 70p for plenty.

Makes your rice go yellow - not really applicable here :rotfl:

Is said to be a cancer killing thing, especially in defence.

It has two parts. One part is water soluble, one part is fat soluble. Hence using full fat milk as a carrier. A grind of black pepper is ideal as it acts as a catalyst to make Turmeric as effective as it can be.

Women in India use it as a face pack to improve skin and reduce hair growth. But the lucky ladies of India aren't generally pale - Turmeric does stain. :rotfl: If you are lucky enough to have dark skin - use turmeric in a face pack. 20 mins tho for paleys, overnight for very dark skins.

Turmeric is wonderful and I may keep one milk drink a day now just for maintenance.

Thanks for the reminder Nige X

Messy? Were you using powdered Turmeric?
Yes. Should I try something different? If so, where may I obtain it?

No, it's the tub of coconut oil, it has 0g carbs :) and is solid at room temp. I've been making the choc candy from it and it is quite nice. Hits the spot when I want something sweet but very little carb content.

    3 tblsp coconut oil
    2 tblsp ground flax
    2 tblsp unsweetened coconut
    2 teasp cocoa
    sweetener if required

put in dish, put dish in bigger dish of hot water, melt and mix together. change proportions to your liking. I like a lot of flax as it gives it a slightly biscuity texture. Good way to get fibre.

shykins posted it first and I think she put peanut butter in too.

pop into ice cube trays and refridgerate or freeze.

When set, pop out of trays into lidded container and keep in fridge.

Got a lot on today, hoping to be back from shops by 2pm. We all need ambition!

Think about your food choices ladies, and drink plenty of water! I always find that more difficult at weekends so I'm making a special effort to clean up my act :) Refuse to buy bottled water so will have to be canny :rotfl:

I just tried these and they are lovely :T

1kg of unsweetened coconut at Morrisons was only £2.50 today in the food of the world aisle :D

I'm on the look out for more recipes to use it now :rotfl:

Sorry to bombard you all with these questions im itching to get going, ive just book Robb Wolf's Book on Paleo which is giving me all the science stuff just need to translate it somehow!

I started Primal/Paleo/Caveman March last year. I've lost 60 lbs at 178 as of this morning, after plateauing at 180-183 for about five weeks to last week.

Grains are the biggy:- No bread, no cakes, no pasta, no pizza, no beer and etc. Purists also cut out rice but I will have white rice once every week or two.

Again purists will not eat Nightshades:- Potatoes & Tomatoes. I cut down on spuds but still eat both.

I use butter or coconut oil to cook with/in.

Don't think about what you "can't have" but rather think about all the meat, seafood, vegetables, fruit and nuts etc you can have.

Went to Aldi this morning and they now have ground linseed 225g for £1.49. There are 3 different flavours. I got Linseed with Sesame, Blueberries & raspberries, I did not take much notice of the other flavours. I thought this was excellent value, much cheaper than the flax I get from Sainsbury's.

For a treat next week I have made an appointment at the local college Hair & Beauty Department. I am getting my hair trimmed/tidied up and a lymphatic massage for only £11.00.

I get my coconut oil from Asian food stores, its much cheaper there.

  • Thanks for the info!

I must admit tomatoes are my downfall so I think I will cut back as much as possible but still include in my diet.

I did a gluten free challenge a few years ago for a couple of weeks and felt great, unfortunately there was a bereavement in the family so went off it so I know this will help me, what about dairy? I only have a bit in a brew once or twice daily I bought some almond milk today is that worth having? I think I will read up some more today, otherwise I might turn into stalker on here! :rotfl:

Thanks again for the advice x

I find that low carbing and specifically cutting out grains leaves me able to cope easily with dairy.

In my opinion, the main difference between the LC diets and Paleo is that in Paleo you're eating real food. If you could hunt it or gather it - then eat it. None of the fake cakes, cheat bread, artificial sweeteners, xantan gums, maltodextrins or other Frankenfoods. I'm not saying that everyone on LC eats those kinds of things, but I used to - and they are allowed, as long as low in carbs.

Paleo is loads of colourful veg (nightshades are not universally harmful, and you'll have to test them for yourself; I eat peppers, aubergines and toms most days), little of antioxidant-filled fruit, loads of eggs, fish and meat, occasional raw nuts, and enough healthy fats (butter, duck fat, coconut oil, EV olive oil).

Avoid grains (white rice is acceptable, but a little and not often is best); legumes (unless prepared by a long soaking/sprouting process) (BTW green beans and fresh peas are fine, as they are more a green veg); seed oils (sunflower, rapeseed, "vegetable" = rapeseed); sugar and sweeteners (if you must have some sweetness on a rare occasion, honey or maple syrup are better than fake stuff).

Dairy is also up to you; I'd advise no milk, but OK to use a splash of cream in your tea/coffee (unless it messes up your digestion, which it does to me; I've learned to take them black, no sugar). Butter is a cooking staple, and if you eat cheese, make it the best you can afford: tasty but not a lot of it. And of course, no processed slices, laughing cows or tubs of "cream cheese light"! I also wouldn't replace dairy with nut milks, unless you make them yourself (those pesky industrial processes again, but they also tend to be quite carby). Oh, with dairy especially, I find it's worth going organic (also with eggs, chicken and beef).

Regarding coconut oil, I buy multipacks of coconoil online - great for eating but also using on the skin and hair.

Good luck! For great Paleo (Primal) advice, I recommend Marksdailyapple.com
