    Morning all.
My sister who lives in Italy has developed gestational diabetes, this is her 2nd pregnancy.
I can't get over the dietary advice she has been given- only 1 egg a week, lean meat and 2 tspns olive oil, weighed portions of grains/rice etc.
Its so frustrating, and she's trying to follow all their advice!!!
She's lost about 7lbs in a week, and she's not at all overweight.
    Grrrr

Not posted for a few days as we've been away for the weekend. Decided beforehand that I'd try to stay low carb as much as possible but without spoiling my enjoyment of the weekend.

So in advance managed to find 2 good restaurants which had suitable LC options - really glad I did as they were both really good.

Although messed up on the first day - it was bitterly cold and I decided to risk a pasty. I know the pastry outer isn't ideal but went for cheese and onion so thought at least the inside was ok, but them found it had loads of potato in it

Given that I had been trying to be good I felt somewhat cheated. Still ate it though, was delicious :o

Back to proper low carb again now that I'm back though and still enjoying it.

Oh forgot to say. Big thanks to kafkathecat, on your recommendation I sent off for the Celia Brooks Brown cook book, it arrived whilst we were away and had a good look through last night.

Looks like some delicious recipes in there, can't wait to try some out :T

I have really enjoyed my food today, I feel guilty saying that as DD2 has a stomach bug and has not eaten :(

Breakfast was celery with almond butter.
Lunch was egg mayonaisse and crispy cold bacon.
Dinner was romanscu and cauliflower cheese.

I will have to take a look at that cook book :)

    Snack will be brazil nuts.

Get plate of food. take out all the nice bits and eat what is left then convince yourself it is a healthy diet and you will look like Kate Moss in no time.
I like to give people as many choices as possible to do what I want them to. (Milton H Erickson I think)

Well, what I did was to buy a couple of recipe books to get to grips with what I could and couldn't eat. You could also look at some forums or websites. With a bit of effort you don't have to miss out on anything you like to eat although no sweetener is anything like sugar.
Basically if you cut out sugar, bread, rice and potatoes with any other grains you are most of the way there. You will feel lightheaded and/or headachey for a few days and then that will pass and away you go.

I don't think that describes a low carb diet

low carb is more the opposite, leave the nice bits and dump the rice etc

I would never want to look like kate Moss either

    :-)

Dinner today is duck comfy with zero noodles :-)

A low carb diet may not suit everyone but it is the only way that I have managed to shift 5 and a half stone, having tried for over 30 years. Once you get used to it you will not only feel better but can afford the odd indulgence. I have put on half a stone since the summer by having more than the odd ...... but intend to restart in the New Year as I really do feel healthier when following this way of eating.

I eat nuts, 70% chocolate (my downfall at the moment as I eat too much), berries with almond pancakes and cream, yogurt, meat, fish, avocados, veg just to name a few items so I don't starve and I enjoy what I eat.
